- Like Medicom MAFEX Hush Batman before him, I think I've found my display version of Superman! A little slop here and there but the eye-catching colors, the articulation, the sculpt, the fantastic cape, it just works completely for me.

I do wish he came with a friendlier face option, but otherwise he's perfect.
Yup, but then Hush was angsty. Cheery head would have been icing.
If you have the Hush Batman, some dude on YT showed the swap. You have to swap the neck too because of the skin tone difference, but it looks pretty cool to have smiley Bruce on Clarkie's ripped bod.
Never know what will pop up on the custom market :)

I agree. Hasbro's newish retro Spidey is nice, but that MAFEX Spidey is superb.

I love mafex, but those are 80-100$ figs and some qc issues are unacceptable for me any more. Untill they sort thier shit out im out of pre orders.

I can’t wait for mine to arrive next month, this is exactly everything I had ever wanted in what I consider to be my definitive 6 inch Superman figure for my DC-Justice League display
Just incase this helps anyone: It seems pretty common amongst these (from articulation segments on reviews anyway) that the should joint is a little frozen out of the box. The socket for the shoulder connects to a ball joint in the torso which, if you get out, you can sand it down a little and give him more of a butterfly joint. You can see the intended effect more on Batman who has a ton more shoulder range since the joint has a better socket in the torso there.
The only reason I realised is because my Carnage and black Hush Batman both had a shoulder joint frozen in a similar method, and it confused me that Supes' range was so little despite using the same mechanism.

I'm just super happy haha that they brought back the yellow symbol on the back of the cape I think they originally took it off during the animated episodes because it took too much work to draw it but I always missed it

I waited anxiously for your review to confirm what everybody was saying but I got the figure two weeks ago. And it is PERFECT. I've been longing for a perfect Superman and it sure checks all the boxes and sweet spots. He looks good with the Mafex Batman. He looks good with the Figuarts Hulk. He looks good with the Figurise Goku (closer in size). He's the real deal and your review just highlighted it all. That's 3/3 perfect figures for Mafex. Spider-man, Batman and Superman are pretty much the ultimate comic figures of those 3. 60-70€ isn't that expensive for definitive figures of the best and most popular heroes of pop culture. I am now praying for a comiv Wonder Woman or a comic Captain America.
Due to the pandemic I had to sell a few figures which wasn't a very good feeling...luckily I am doing much better and I just ordered this and the hush Batman figure.

I love that they did the hush version. Imo its the classic look. I'd still like some chains or something instead as an accessory though.

Great review this is the best 1/12 superman. Try yriel yellow mixed with white scar citadel paints takes some mixing but it worked for me 👍

By the time there were five reviews on UA-cam it was sold out everywhere, and I decided to wait to see if there’d be some common QC issues before I bought it. I’m so mad I missed out on this. I really hope they restock but I doubt it.
Probably won't get restocked, but Mafex is pretty good about reissues. They even fix QC issues or improve them with 1.5 or 2.0 versions. They just reissued a bunch of figures that came out years ago. I am sure this will get reissued again. Also, with how well this sold, I am 99.9% sure they will drop a variant up for pre-order this year. They wasted no time giving us a black/gray Hush Batman.
Would love a repaint with a smiling head. I need a happy, confident Superman in my display; Batman already occupies the "brooding" slot. I hope it'll come soon because the hips in my DCUC Superman has not aged well.

Love mine due to the design, despite the qc issues. Sorry yours came with a badly painted S, visible glue and mark on the 1st head. I guess I got lucky.
I recommend you to pop off his torso and look for imperfections inside the plastic. Try to shave them to avoid scratching your figure. Mine came with stuff inside and it has a nasty scratch on his abs now :(

Oh, also mine didn't pass the arm test lol, but it only happens if you rotate the bicep too much.

Yeah I love this figure so much. And I can not wait for the new mezco Superman coming out. This figure has it's flaws but man it's so good I'm willing to look past it. This guy goes so well with other darkseid figures. Especially the old DC classics darkseid.
Does the default head on yours have a mark on his cheek or is that intentional?
Got mine 2 weeks ago and it’s my most favorite Superman figure ever! My only gripe is that the left side of the cape is an inch longer than the right.
I noticed the sides of the cape drape further than the middle but figured there was a reason.

Noticed the yellow "S" shield is missing the triangle at the upper part forming the serif and the lower part forming the reverse apex. Mafex should have included a fine tipped Sharpie to remedy that. Lol!
I want to sculpt a smiling face and a frost breath blowing face for this to make the definitive Superman
The left arm of mine would definitely fail the intro test. And the small head compared to Batman kinda irks me but all in all I am happy with it especially since I got it at half price.

Great video. I love this figure and thank you for doing such a great job going over this MAFEX figure. Mine had some paint rub off the foot where the toe joint is located leaving a small blue area. Does anyone know how I could fix that?
Great looking figure, especially the colours. I just wish it came with another head that had a facial expression more along the lines of a traditional Superman. If not smiling, then at least a neutral expression. When I think of a traditional Superman, I don't think scowling or gritted teeth.
Does anyone know what color red is used on the figure. I just got the re-issue and he’s got a paint chip on the trunks. Looking for a good match to fix it.

Cool looking figure! I’m not sure how I feel about all these companies using soft rubber parts like crotches. They look great but I’m not so sure about the longevity of these pieces
I wish the QC issues weren't so common with Mafex, I can't justify spending that much on a pre-order without knowing if I'm going to get something that'll just fall apart.

That's how I feel about pretty much every Mafex release. Are they great figures? Absolutely! But are they worth the $80+ it takes to get your hands on one in the United States? That question is a lot harder to answer.
Oh Robo, you can't do me like that with the MAFEX arm test at the beginning, I literally spent yesterday being driven mad by their Carnage figure due to the loose left arm, which sucks since the rest is so good on that figure. Also at 11:19, damn that's a good looking figure, looks ripped straight out of Jim lee's art.
My Carnage has the arm issue too, BUT, my figure came with TWO left arms 😂
For some reason one of the arms doesn't has this problem and thankfully AmiAmi sent me a right arm as I requested. Now my only problem with that figure is that my right butterfly joint is completely stuck, maybe glued :(
@@nhyar Yeah it's not a complete deal breaker, plus it can still hold a pose and it doesn't just fall off when on display, but at the same time I feel like I'm on a balance beam whenever I pose that figure, one wrong move and it all goes to hell, so it kind of sours the experience. Still though at least it looks incredible.
@@tomtudorweaver1078 Definitely. That Carnage figure is one of the best, if not THE best ever released. Sadly, the QC issues stop ne from saying it's perfect. I love and hate that figure 😂

Better to be tight than loose
If you want, wherever you see that it’s super tight or if it squeaks, take a toothpick and some dish soap. Dab a little of it in the area and move the leg around. So long as it’s a little, It will be a looser joint and still hold up very well.
I hear if you turn the neck peg backwards (it is angled), you can get him to look straight up when flying.
That's exactly what I did, and left it there. Still better forward than front.
