The St. Croix premier rods had the same issue with the reel nut. I put some silicone tape on the threads and it seemed to really help. Thanks for the content bud, keep it coming.
St. Croix often uses Fuji reel seats. I don’t know if the BassX line does or not. But while it is an issue with the BassX rods, if this is a Fuji seat it would be them that needs to address that to fix the problem. St. Croix’s only option would just be to use another brand of reel seat. The same issue could also show up on other brands of rods that use this same seat. Something to watch for.
Great video Debo I could listen to gear talk all day long. Thanks for always sharing your honest thoughts on rods and reels lots of UA-camrs will blow smoke up peoples asses just cause they’re sponsored or work with a certain companies. As always tight lines keep the content rolling !!!
I love the Curado line, too. They're basically just Zodias rods without the Monocoque handles. I've compared them side by side with the Zodias. The weights, actions, etc. across those two lines are almost identical... And while the styling of the Zodias is obviously a lot cooler, the Curado doesn't seem as fragile, so I'm not worried about banging them around in my kayak. Really an underrated "workhorse" type lineup.
@ericrobinson9340 I own the 6'10" ML casting rod, which I use mostly for small jerkbaits and topwaters. That one's a standout for me (pairs great with the SLX 70 MGL). I also own the 7' M glass casting rod, which has been really great for chatterbaits and medium-sized crankbaits. It's surprisingly light for a glass rod, and the action is spot-on (paired with a Curado 200). If I get into swimbait fishing, I'll probably pick up the 7'5" XH at some point for throwing 1-2 oz. swimbaits, glidebaits, and wakebaits. Haven't tried it yet (and I'm not really a "big baits" fisherman), but on paper, it seems like a standout in that price point.
Aw Debo! Losing gear in a roll over is awful! I set my kayak up to hold 5 rods in total and I can secure them all so none are lost in a rollover or from low hanging tree limbs snatching one up. I made a video showing it, it’s easy to set up. I didn’t use lanyards, I used small loops of bungee cord with pull tabs, and hooks to connect them to after passing them around the reel first.
My favorite rod and reels in 2024 were the Abu garcia vengeance spinning and casting combos I picked up from Walmart online on closeput. They each came with three lures. $40 for thebbaitcast combo and $30 for the spinning. Being fully honest, the spinning reel does feel cheap but hasn’t failed me yet. The baitcast combo is fine in regards to the rod and reel. Nothing mind blowing but good additions to my lineup. If they still have the Jordan Lee baitcast combo on closeput this week for $49 I’m probably getting it for 2025. Great video and info as always Debo, stay warm and be safe!
We appreciate you Debo, your videos are always informative and helpful to make us better anglers ( which makes fishing more fun) thank you ! Good to hear the ark bfs reel made the best list, I'm just getting into bfs this spring and have 2 of the ark reel setups !
Good review Debo. I have that 6th Sense Vega frog rod, and it's okay. After this video I checked on that reel seat issue, and my reel seems to fit fine. I like how you have both the spinning and casting rods in a lot of brands/models. Same here. ✌️😎🎣
Thanks for another enjoyable video. I had a kayak disaster of my own in 24. I lost a couple of tackle boxes and 2 combos. One of the lost combos was a Kistler helium with a Diawa Zillion reel, my most expensive combo ever. Bummer! Oh well, guess we lose sometimes. Here's to better luck in 25! Thanks again for excellent content.
Hey Debo, I think you’re spot on with the Abu line up. I have the max x, stx & the max pro. For the range in price there isn’t that much difference between them. I do like them all though👊
I love the daiwa. My set up is a 1 piece 7 foot airdx rod and put a daiwa feugo reel. Love the feel and weight of this set up. I do have a 9 foot eliminator 4500. Next will be a tatula bait caster
Absolutely great vid Debo! I am kinda torn between basic color combos to flashy ones. the flashiest two that i have is a 13 Fishing Omen (blaze orange) and the Modus R2 with blaze orange braid to a mono leader, and the other one is the Daiwa Arid-X Laguna 1000 LT high vis yellow to a mono leader. its a prenominal combo.
Last year I bought a shimano SLX 150 and 2 spinning reels, for 50$ off of the marketplace. I liked that slx so much I bought another one new. Academy had them for 75$ on sale. Its the smoothest baitcaster I've ever used. 👍👊
Very good reviews. I have bought both Daiwa and Shimano spinning reels in the last five or six years. I bought the Shimano Miravel just this last fall, and it was a 2500 series. I put it on a seven foot TFO spinning rod, medium light. Amazing how Iowa fisherman think alike. LOL. Go Iowa Hawkeyes!
I tend to agree with the critique of Abu Garcia, wish they hadn’t dumped the metal frame for the Revo X and the only difference between the Max reels is the bearing count and retrieve speed. I have the Max Pro and it’s a great value because I found it new for $50, but for the full retail price I’d rather spend $10 more on an SLX
Loved this review! I think spot on from my experience with some of that gear too. I have a Curado rod and a Bass X rod. Lucky for me my Bass X doesn’t have that issue. It’s an even older generation though (blue font).
The vanford is lighter and more refined then the miravel. i bought it for lighter higher end rods like the Orochi X10 Medusa the rod is feather light and would not balance well with a heavier reel. IMO Great video Debo.
Glad you brought up 6th Sense rods. With all of their rods using custom parts they could choose to have smooth comfortable lock nuts on their reel seats. I was going to buy their Response rod which is their cheapest but the hard pastic Fuji like lock nut is a turn off.
Love the idea. I haven't tried any of these besides the max x and aird x. Both are great in their own ways. Can't disagree with you on spinning reels, but u did get the new tatula mq reel, and it's amazing how much better it is than a $50 lews.
I also had an issue with the micro guides on the monster bass rods. I fish braid to leader for most of my rods, and it would always get snagged on a cast.
I picked up the Sedona early summer and man I do believe that’s as much as you need.. I only put one summer in with it but saying that if you fish mostly baitcasters and have 1-2 spinning the Sedona prolly is the best for ya
Good job takin it like a champ! If I lost 6 reels I'd probably never recooperate that loss! Be right back fishing 20$ Walmart catfishin combos and nightcrawlers God forbid!
Love my gen 5 revo sx. You can turn off the centrifugal brakes opening it up just like the STX also when the gen 5’s came out the gen 4’s went on sale the begin of last year so I got another gen 4 STX for like $120 I think and the gen 5 SX with the exact same braking system for I think it was 160-170. Great line of reels. I have 1 gen 5 SX and 6 gen 4’s an S , 2 SX’s, 2STX’s and a Rocket.
For me a mid priced spinning reel, $200 ish are just more durable in the long run. Hard to beat the durability of a Stradic! I had a Sedona crap out on me this year that’s only two years old. I’m a big fan of the SLX MGL as well, the new Diawa 100 can be picked up on Amazon Japan for around $120, great reel too!
So no curado reels? Wow that's a first 😅 I just got a shimano ultegra spinning combo! Can't wait to give it a try! Seems like a really good reel and rod!
Great video! I had the same issue with my BassX casting rod as well. I got mine from Dick’s Sporting goods. I bought the rod for $129.00 with the protection plan. I took the rod back to Dick’s for a new one. They only gave me back $99.00 back. Bad business, smh.
Great gear review video debo have you used the new frog at tackle warehouse i am not a big fan of t handle on spinning reels but I do understand it gives you to grab ahold of
Also the daiwa regal might be the greatest spinning reel ever made at that price point. I truly don’t notice that much of a difference between the regal and my Shimano Stratic.
Couldn’t agree more with daiwa handles. I love my 2 Tatula CT’s but the dang handle and knobs are so tiny. I replaced one of the handles with a big beefed up handle and big knobs… so much better!
I want to like the Dobyns rods but don’t prefer the exposed locking nut threads. Also, I’ve been wonder if all their rods are made from the same blanks or is each line a different type of blank?
I'm not a fan of having 10 different colors across all my reels that clash with each other. If you asked me a few years ago I wouldn't care but I've been weird about it lately and prefer to get reels that match the rods. One thing that draws me to Fenwicks new line up is how they look like they belong together.
I miss the gen 4 Abu Garcia reels. The revo x and sx with abu’s handles were my favorite cranking / moving bait reels. I don’t like the gen 5, they don’t fit my hand comfortably at all so I’ve actually moved onto Ark Gravity 3 (BOGO $65 / reel). Which leads me to my best surprise budget reel of ‘24, the gravity 3. They cast with the lightest flick of the wrist, perform well with braking backed way off. My curiosity is peaked to try the gravity 5, because of the cone braking system ark has in the 5 & 7. However, once I look at the price of the gravity 5 ($179) it’s hard to not buy the Shimano SLX 70 MGL ($149) which is my favorite reel. ….. Rods for me best budget is the Ark Cobb Series, on sale $80, one of the most complete budget lineups. These are my every day bank rods for trying new places when throwing them in the bed of my truck and hopping spot to spot. Looks like Ark may be revamping the Cobb lineup, so hopefully price and the rod powers/ actions remain relatively close to the original lineup.
I got their 6th response rod last yr and ya one thing I did not like is the reel seat my reel felt loose and ya the top of the threads I actually cut my finger from the way they have these slits in it:. I filed them down and it seems to be ok and I had to really crank down the reel seat for it to not feel like it twist on hooksets
Man I watched the entire video I don’t think you mentioned a Daiwa Baitcaster reel at all, but I’ve been wanting to get one so badly but at the moment I can’t afford it, but if I was to save up for which I’m doing which one would really recommend to me?
I know Tackle warehouse is doing a 20% off sale coming up. I’m in the market for a multipurpose heavy rod for frogs, jigs, and Texas rigs so I want something sensitive but in that $100ish price range. Would love to get your thoughts on a recommendation.
Haven’t tried too many of your best OR worst, but I do have a couple of the BassX rods that have treated me pretty well. The most bizarre and obvious thing that bugs me is the Abu reels. 😬 Aren’t some of the gear ratios even the same in some of those-suggesting even more shared parts? FWIW my first ever baitcaster-BMax is still kicking.
You have entry level rods and reels. You really need to at least get some mid level rods and reels. With one or two high end rods and reels. You will be blown away. Try G Loomis NRX+, Shimano Poison adrena, expride, Zodias. Megabass, Shimano bantam, scorpion dc, metanium, twin power, diawa Rebellion rod, diawa tatula elite baitcaster, diawa ballistic mq, diawa Saltist mq. Just my opinion. More expensive means lighter, more sensitive but worth the price cause I'm getting old lol.
I was wondering the same thing about then Abu reels not being that much different from 50 to 125ish. Don’t seem like there should be that big of a price difference between them.
The best reel is a spinning reel of course. It can cast light lures like 1/16 oz or smaller… but you need strong line like 6lb so I say a 2000 size Diawa or Shimano… that’s the way I like to Bass fish 🎣
I’m using the Shimano nasci at the moment on my spinning rod I got it cheap and about to upgrade to the daiwa tatula mq lt as I’m a daiwa fanboy the same it’s the only Shimano I own and I just can’t do it any longer so my wife is going to take it and I get the new tatula also noted it’s my only spinning rod I might pick it up once in a blue moon I like my baitcasters more
The gen 4 revo x and s side plates will swap out. The difference I've seen is 2lbs of higher drag in the s over the x abs a extra bearing. That's about the same with the lower reels it's a extra bearing, maybe a faster gear ratio (ipt from 27in to 30in). And a little better drag. But honestly no major differences in them.
Here's another thing that blows peoples minds. The black max and max lines spools will swap to the gen 4 revo reels. Not sure of they will to the new gen 5 revos though.
Idk just imo I feel abu is a rip off to me everything feels cheap like you said 5 reels all in different prices and what just different colors changes the price that much idk maybe just me but I’d rather get an slx any model than any abu any day
For the carbon lights they got a lifetime guarantee you're paying $129 nobody has that out in the market you bring the receipt back it can be 5 years 10 years as long as you have the receipt they'll exchanged it for you that's a great deal once your opinion thank you
What is your most expensive spinning setup and your favorite setup? I personally believe that looks really matters for fishing arsenals. For people that don’t matter, just go to Walmart and pick up an ugly stick.
I’m looking at the 100 now for 109 bucks on the Amazon now and it’s a lot cheaper than the MGL but I Love Daiwa Brakes. Spot on Devon and stay warm and dry up there and the Winter inside can be heavy on the Head so please shout if you want to or just say hey.. Semper Fidelis my friend
@willtrax71 I ordered that Daiwa 100 for $110 from amz jdm myself. Just a heads up, it comes from Japan so it takes a little longer for delivery, and I actually had to send mine back because when you pushed the thumb bar down the spool wouldn't engage when you started to crank the handle. Not a fault of theirs that the reel isn't right, but returns take a while too. Once I finally get refunded, I'll re-order another one. I have a couple of last years 100 model, and this one is just as good or better, and you can't beat the price.
@ ok great Intel my friend thank you. That’s the one I’m looking at and it’s a bit more ordering from the States but Winter here in Virginia so I have some time lol before I use it. Thank you for the Intel John. William T.
Where I live here in East TN, the local hillbillies think the best " quality " is how cheap something is. I cant tell you how many of these clowns, who aren't catching fish btw, will hear the Curado zing when casting and theyll ask about it. Then they ask how much. When I tell them $200, they IMMEDIATELY proclaim how great their $69 Walmart baitcast combo rig is. LOL. Im sure theyre named Skeeter. Skeeter McWifebeater.
I just ordered my ten year old son a 2024 Tatula Tw100 and will give him my new model Tatula XT rod. Big upgrade for him but he’s earned it.
The clear box in the background full of reels is crazy
They add up after a while. I'm at the point where I'm trying to invest in really nice ones only.
@@thesonorandesertanglersame here
I agree. Debo PLEASE share those reels with your loyal subjects😂😂
Right it's a great addiction lol💪🤓
This is luckily a positive addiction.
The St. Croix premier rods had the same issue with the reel nut. I put some silicone tape on the threads and it seemed to really help. Thanks for the content bud, keep it coming.

Appreciate the positivity and honesty in the reviews. Feels like I'm shooting the S with a friend and we are talking gear!
Really solid info, thanks! Is there any particular length/actions that really blew you away?
I love the Curado line to, I have a 7’2 heavy that I used pretty much exclusively last year and it did amazing paired with a Curado 200m!
@ericrobinson9340 I own the 6'10" ML casting rod, which I use mostly for small jerkbaits and topwaters. That one's a standout for me (pairs great with the SLX 70 MGL). @@XanderMap thanks for the info. I recently picked up a SLX 70 MGL and will check out the Curado 6’10 ML for exactly what you are throwing on it. 👍

Awesome video, Debo! Love the consistency, man. Believe me , I know its hard to get time with a family and all. Thanks for all you do!
Love these videos Debo. Always something new to learn! Great information.
Enjoyed your video Debo, keep up the good work.
Debo,
Great video. I always learn something new to try and something new to avoid.
Debo is legitimately one of the goat fishing channels. Keep it up sir.
So glad the kayak helped bring back your enthusiasm!

Love your honest reviews of the gear that you use. Can’t hardly go wrong with Shimano or Diana products.
Thank you for this very informative video. Keep up the great work.
We appreciate you Debo, your videos are always informative and helpful to make us better anglers ( which makes fishing more fun) thank you ! Good to hear the ark bfs reel made the best list, I'm just getting into bfs this spring and have 2 of the ark reel setups !
Excellent review Devon a few will be added to my list! Thanks
Good review Debo. I have that 6th Sense Vega frog rod, and it's okay. After this video I checked on that reel seat issue, and my reel seems to fit fine. I like how you have both the spinning and casting rods in a lot of brands/models. Same here. ✌️😎🎣

Half hour gear review viDEBO?!
Heck yeah fellers
Hey Debo, I think you’re spot on with the Abu line up. I have the max x, stx & the max pro. For the range in price there isn’t that much difference between them. I do like them all though👊
Glad you're having fun again!
I'm with you dude. Diawa in my mind is the top shelf.
Nice video. I order some new gear for this up coming season and I can’t wait to try it once the water opens back up.
I love the daiwa.
My set up is a 1 piece 7 foot airdx rod and put a daiwa feugo reel.
Love the feel and weight of this set up.
I do have a 9 foot eliminator 4500.
Next will be a tatula bait caster
Love my Miravels. The first one was so good bought another one! Super light and smooth. Agree 100%
Absolutely great vid Debo! The Tatula 100 is on my Expride 6’10M. I love that combo! The SV Boost 100 is a Zillion Jr. It's my favorite!

The Abu Revo is great for flipping and punching heavy cover. It’s solid with a strong drag.

Love Kaden line , I think ark is under radar brand , hate to hear lunkerstick , I’ve got a few and enjoy them. Good video Debo
Good video Debo, all the reels I have have aluminum frames, I followed your suggestion 😊
The vanford is lighter and more refined then the miravel. i bought it for lighter higher end rods like the Orochi X10 Medusa the rod is feather light and would not balance well with a heavier reel. IMO Great video Debo.

I just got a shimano ultegra spinning combo! Can't wait to give it a try! Seems like a really good reel and rod!
Good content. You need to try an Edge Delta series though.
Great video! I had the same issue with my BassX casting rod as well. I got mine from Dick’s Sporting goods. I bought the rod for $129.00 with the protection plan. I took the rod back to Dick’s for a new one. They only gave me back $99.00 back. Bad business, smh.
Love my Ark Gravity BFS.
According to what a Shimano rep told me, the current Curado is the previous Zodias with different cosmetics.
Couldn’t agree more with daiwa handles. I love my 2 Tatula CT’s but the dang handle and knobs are so tiny. I replaced one of the handles with a big beefed up handle and big knobs… so much better!

Diawa absolutely has the best brakes in the business. I have zero need for a DC reel as my 100’s and SV TW’s handle the wind just fine.
I miss the gen 4 Abu Garcia reels. The revo x and sx with abu’s handles were my favorite cranking / moving bait reels. I love the Jordan lee reel couldn’t beat it for $69 I had no luck with the gen 2 lews speed spook lfs feels like the line slips
Was that a thunderhawk rod?
Whoa!!! The 6th Sense Vega Frog Rod you didn't like????? I mean look how good the Vega Frog is....oh.....wait.....Never Mind
Only thing I don't like about the new Tat100 is it sits higher on the reel seat. The previous version was more comfy to me.
I bought one Revo years ago. Bearing went down in no time. Now I buy Diawa or Dobyns
I love AB reels! Revo's rule! Revo Rocket! Every Reel I own is AB!
I know Tackle warehouse is doing a 20% off sale coming up. I’m in the market for a multipurpose heavy rod for frogs, jigs, and Texas rigs so I want something sensitive but in that $100ish price range. Would love to get your thoughts on a recommendation.

Hi! What is the rod you’ve paired the daiwa tatula with ? Or is anybody know thank you
St Croix disappointed me even in the victory line I had the reel nut glue came undone and I had to super glue it on the water.
Any open face is a sure backlash. Zebco bullet, profishiency sniper are
# 1. Never backlash and can reel as fast as any open face.
Had the same problem with the Bass X and had problems with warranty claim. There are better rods out there for the money
The best reel is a spinning reel of course. It can cast light lures like 1/16 oz or smaller… but you need strong line like 6lb so I say a 2000 size Diawa or Shimano… that’s the way I like to Bass fish 🎣
I luv the new tatula but like he said they’re chunky I have big bear paws for hands so I like it but I could see it feeling awkward in some hands
It really sucks that you dumped the yak but if you get anything out of it invest in leashes or rod floats to save the rods.
Debo, i think Shimano's svs infinity and mgl 3 spool cannot be matched by anything on the market.
Tatula FTW Hands down I am the fan boy for sure, fished 100s Of Reels Non do better!
I’m using the Shimano nasci at the moment on my spinning rod I got it cheap and about to upgrade to the daiwa tatula mq lt as I’m a daiwa fanboy the same it’s the only Shimano I own and I just can’t do it any longer so my wife is going to take it and I get the new tatula also noted it’s my only spinning rod I might pick it up once in a blue moon I like my baitcasters more
Let me also know what do you think about the carbon light casting rods
The gen 4 revo x and s side plates will swap out. The difference I've seen is 2lbs of higher drag in the s over the x abs a extra bearing. That's about the same with the lower reels it's a extra bearing, maybe a faster gear ratio (ipt from 27in to 30in). And a little better drag. But honestly no major differences in them.
Here's another thing that blows peoples minds. The black max and max lines spools will swap to the gen 4 revo reels. Not sure of they will to the new gen 5 revos though.
I know of 4 mb rods that broke in the middle of the backbone. And a couple that the tips broke on.
Idk just imo I feel abu is a rip off to me everything feels cheap like you said 5 reels all in different prices and what just different colors changes the price that much idk maybe just me but I’d rather get an slx any model than any abu any day
What rod did you have on your SLX 70 for jerkbaits in the video?
THANKS
For the carbon lights they got a lifetime guarantee you're paying $129 nobody has that out in the market you bring the receipt back it can be 5 years 10 years as long as you have the receipt they'll exchanged it for you that's a great deal once your opinion thank you
What is your most expensive spinning setup and your favorite setup?
I personally believe that looks really matters for fishing arsenals. For people that don’t matter, just go to Walmart and pick up an ugly stick.
You should get a big treble hook and a slip sinker and go get your rods and reels you lost
Best value Shimano spinning Ultegra. Has the long stroke spool. Miravel does not.
William T.
@ Your welcome, same here in upstate NY, real cold so I've time too, lol. Your right, cant beat the price.
2500 sz spinning reel from most companies will handle some very big fish 🎣.
The daiwa exceler is always skipped over. more comparable to the nasci I think.
St. Croux over rated and cheep. I loke shimano rods but my favorite maker is dobyns well balanced, durable and priced right🎣😎
Gear!!!!!
Those Abu reels look terrible. Look like they were Frankensteined from multiple reel parts with all the mismatched colors.
Randy blauket says your an idiot if your not throwing jerkbaits in a spinning rod and reel
Can you give some of those away?
