Very impressive! I have been shooting modern and muzzle loading guns for over 53 years and have NEVER seen anything like this. Not only can it punch a hole in AR plate, it can do so exactly where aimed. That is not hot air!I don't compare old style black powder muzzle loaders to this type of modern muzzle loaders, but the science of it is exciting.Thank you for the great video.
Yall can laugh, My first was a 54 cal thompson renagade. Loved it! Did everything, that you could do wrong with it, 120 gr. powder then stuff a baffalo slug on top. 12 ft. of flame out the muzzle. And a minute and a half, for the smoke to clear just to see if you hit something. It's been a long time since those days, But still have a pair of 1858 revolvers. Guess that itch never goes away does it.
It meets every definition of a muzzle loader. There is nothing to stop a person from hunting with it if they want to. My hat is off to you, I'm impressed.
3800x3800x350 gr. over 450400 = 11,221 ft. lbs of energy....With that kind of wallop you better have VERY well constructed bullets...Awesome rifle Jeff
Well, guys, he said muzzleloader. He didn't say black powder. He also said 3800 fps, and added that this number is correct. Black powder is going to be limited to a max of about 2200 fps no matter what you try to do to get more. One guy I know mixed flash powder and 4F in with his regular charges an claimed 2400 fps. Not sure about that given BP burn. Anyway, point is, he is using a very healthy smokeless charge in a barrel rated for hi performance smokeless cartridges, only he is using it as a muzzleloader. Interesting concept and worth exploring. I'm going to look into this too.
Kirk Boswell Flash powder...Woah thats pretty insane, flashpowder alone has really high brisance, shreds metal almost like a high explosive. I guess you can mix small amounts of it in to increase burn rates a bit.
This might account for the high fps: He isn't using black powder, looks to me as if he is shooting modern smokeless powder. Note the total lack of smoke when he fires.
Kirk Boswell there's no smoke, regular powder for sure, could be using flash, this is something that took a while to get that certain mixture,he done his homework, and I'm lost love to get into it..but I don't know where to begin. Shayne Bennett
Very impressed. I built a .264 out of a 404 Jeffery’s case 2 1/2 “ in 1992. After further developments it will put a 142gt Sierra at over 4000 FPS. I know what you mean by people running their mouths. I spoke to people in R&D departments especially with Dakota. And 25 years later Noslers 26 is a copy of mine but they just lengthened the case, like I told them not to do. Anyway I’m very impressed, you did a great job. Wildcatters keep the arms development alive.
Duane Bierman No duh ! We use a bench to SIGHT IN, which you SHOULD do, for some forms of competition shooting, and also being as its fundamentally more accurate than off hand, we use a bench to utilize the accuracy of the rifle itself, relatively regardless of the shooters capability. Even if they can't carry a bench, ANY hunter if he's any good will use a rest, such as a tree, stonewall, or anything else to increase their accuracy, IF available. Snipers, same difference.
No one in thier right mind would want to carry a 32 lb muzzleloader through the woods. That's heavier than all my gear together. Treeclimber backpack and gun plus cloths and boots, let alone having to drag a deer out with all of that. No thank you. I'll stick with my .54 cal renegade from TC.
You are very good on UA-cam. You just need your camera person to watch hickok45 videos and do the camera work like that. Close clear shots of your beautiful work and how the gun comes apart and loads. You would be unstoppable as far as custom rifles go. You've got the guns figured out thats for sure. You need some junior college camera kid to watch a couple hickok45 videos and then show your craft and marksmanship off.
It's interesting to see a modern take on the muzzle loading concept - i've never seen one that uses a bolt action for the primer. Do you have any issues with the ram rod deforming the tip of the projectile and affecting accuracy, or do they have a bonded tip made from another material to prevent that?
The bullets have a aluminum tip and I use a custom made bullet seater that does not touch the aluminum tip. The bullets are sized so that they take very little resistance to push down the barrel.
the 2 bore rifle used in Africa probably was the world's most powerful muzzleloader shoulder arm.. 270 grains of powder and a 3500 grain projectile out of a 1.39 inch bore. Powerful enough to have the recoil knock over two full grown men.
I might be mistaken but Richard’s custom rifles (from Virginia)was doing this back in 2001-2002. Richard’s been retired since 2007, but he built the first custom smokeless powder muzzle loader I ever put my hands on. OK so you can bait an area or not, set your self up and wait for whatever you hunt to come and shoot it. That is your right to do so and if that is how you like to do it. I not will argue that. I just have a problem with the mobility of this firearm. It seems to me that moving to a new position or just getting set up would be close to setting up an artillery piece. If all you are hunting with this is deer there are better and less expensive ways to do it. A 100 yard shot kill is going to be just as tasty as one from 450 yards and cheaper. I guess I probably don't get it or understand you as a person and your situation. I must say it is a unique firearm and I am intrigued by it.

35 lbs? That's not a rifle that's artillery!

There's always a little wiggle room for improvement.
The most powerful muzzleloader is the flintlock 98 caller blunderbuss. It is used to shoot rocks or anything that fits in it.
