Is the touring really worth it over stock with the stock down pipe? Do you have stock sound values? Also, any drone with that setup at ~75mph? These stock suitcases are too damn quiet - just don’t want it to be overbearing on a daily.
Very thankful you guys are doing videos like this. This is EXACTLY what everyone wishes to see/hear when debating dropping hundreds of hard earned dollars on products. Now you dont have to pray it sounds good, you get a real world demo WITH decibel readings!? Props guys. Im Buying a dp from yall this upcoming friday.
Thank you MAP for this video!~ And for freezing your arses off in the MN outdoors to film this. I'm sharing some info about my setup of ~3yrs, for those who may be shopping and debating: 2017 GTI SE, DSG, 39k miles. ~15k miles, I installed the MAP 3" downpipe w/HFC to the stock catback. No extra resonator on the downpipe. In hindsight, I wish I had done this! (We can't know what we don't know at the time...) Sounded nice with the stock catback, but not as deep as I wanted. I experienced some unpleasant drone from 2800-3200rpm. ~6-mo later, I scored an excellent price on a second-hand, mint condition Cobb catback. Fit and finish was very good. But the Cobb falls short with its front resonator, which is essentially a tiny glasspack. Catback was very "BOOMY" at first from the interior, where the humans live... Sound deadening materials in the exhaust eventually "broke in" after ~500 miles, and the sound was very nice. Sporty, not ricey. But after two years I am over the drone in normal driving from ~2500-3000rpm. The drone can only be eliminated by the use of an appropriately sized resonator up front. GTI Jake and many others have proven this. Per this video above, the AWE touring exhaust includes a nice muffler AND a well sized front resonator. This reduces unwanted rasp and low-frequency drone in normal driving to moderate acceleration situations. Conclusion: I wish I had purchased the AWE touring! Hopefully this can help others.
Installed the Touring exhaust a week ago and love it. Although it could be a little louder, its just about right where I wanted it to be. It's got a deeper exhaust note than stock and doesnt have that tractor sound to it. While I like a loud exhaust and I admit I'd like it to be a little more aggressive, the deep subtly to it makes it quiet enough for living in a residential area yet sounding like a monster from inside the cabin when you gun it. Perfect for the person who respects the neighbors during 530am cold starts and loves dropping gears on nice straightaways.
I was hoping to see a comment like this. It's hard to tell from the reviews on the site if people are referring to the sport or touring because they both sit underneath the same product page. Stock downpipe I'm assuming? I too am looking for something that sounds (and looks) better than stock but live on a street with a bunch of children and we all know how moms react to any type of car noises.
@@localpickup1243 how much of a sound difference is it from stock? I don't want something loud, just slightly more noticeable, more importantly I want to change the stock tone to something a bit more tuned. So far I like how it sounds in videos but I haven't found a good stock vs touring only comparison.
@@crimsonsw21 it’s exactly that - slightly more noticeable. Like I said I do wish it was a little louder but I’m happy with it because it isn’t obnoxious and has a deeper tone. I have yet to hear it moving while outside of the car but in the cabin it’s nice. If it isn’t loud enough you could always convert it later with the track exhaust for like $200 I think.
@@daujin_mk7 i'll need the o2 spacer cause i'm probably not tuning it, just the downpipe and exhaust system. i hope paying extra for the resonator on the AWE touring is worth it. i'm curious how the drone is without a resonator.
@@OMANBRUH Very nice. I actually had the MAP dp with the AWE track first. Had it with both catless and catted downpipe. To me, it wasn't too bad both highway and city driving. It was more unbearable for my passengers. I switched for a more "mature" tone with the touring
I have seen people go stage 2 without the intake, and even Unitronic doesn't list it as a required item but instead a recommended item. If you're going to spend your hard earned money and you're aiming for power then you should get a better filter for your stock air box which honestly is not that bad, and spend the rest on an upgraded intercooler to help deal with the extra heat.
Great comparison video guys! I'm still searching for which catback to get. Already have my downpipe and am so tired of the raspy high pitched sound with the stock system.
How's the drone? Honestly. I have the Catted/Resonated MAP downpipe and I'm trying to choose between the AWE track or touring. Leaning toward touring...
@@1967incPhotography go track touring will not be enough later on and you'll regret it. I don't personally think there is any drone maybe around 90mph but I rarely drive that fast for more than a few minutes
Thanks for doing this! I'm surprised the dp + touring cbe is only 1.7db quieter than dp + track cbe at 2500rpm. Seems kinda pointless to get that touring pipe with the resonator to only quiet her down
Drone is a different discussion. If you research reviews, most AWE Track owners love the new sound in the beginning, then grow weary of the drone from the lack of a front resonator. It isn't the "total dB" that matters in an exhaust. It's the low-frequency drone in normal driving, RPM-specific ranges and part-throttle positions that a proper front resonator eliminates. I learned this the hard way, as you can read about in my comment above. Sharing to help. 🍻✌
It might been better if you did the stock DP and track exhaust after driving it for a week or two to break it in bc it does have a muffler so it's gonna take time for the true sound to come
I'm a bit confused about the resonator in this AWE+MAP combo. The AWE Touring has a resonator included, but the MAP DP offers an optional resonator. I assume you can use one or the other, not both. Is the AWE Track + MAP DP w resonator the same as the AWE Touring + MAP wo resonator? Thanks.

My reasoning behind this is if i go track and decat i will not be able to get the "dsg farts" as the DQ381 does NOT have dsg farts, but by even just removing the stock muffler/back box you do get some farts just not the traditional dsg farts.
