- You asked for it! Here is my initial opinion of the newest Tier VIII Premium plane: The P-61 Black Widow. Built IRL as a night fighter, how will that translate to World of Warplanes?

I went all out on turning. 10.4 or a 69 rating. I went G suit for the 3.5% turning rolls you can get on it. Polished skin at 400 and leaving it there. lightweight engine, lightweight wings and long gun barrels all at 786.
Why long gun barrels? The plane is slow yep, but combined with the turn rate and the extended range you can keep enemy's in the basket for much longer. Combined with the great crit chance knocking out their engines is a frequent occurrence.
I run Medical kit, Pneumatic control assist, engine restart and secondary control assist. Getting you engines knocked out is very painful in this plane with it's already slow speed and Pneumatic control assist lets you turn with some light fighters for the duration of the consumable.
I 100% recommend taking precision gunner on the tail gunner asap. In a close dogfight this has saved me many times. it put's out crits frequently especially on the enemy's control surfaces and crits will often time make a bot break off early and damage a players plane enough to out turn them.
Is it a XP-54, nope. The XP-54 can make a bad pilot look good, the P-61 won't. But it will make a good pilot look great.

@Scott White - I ran into you on red last night in my P-82B - I don't think I even managed to land one hit on you. I still think the P-61 is a bit OP, *but* I've only seen it 4 times and (as you said in game chat) it's slow, so my opinion will likely change as I get more (hopefully less painful) exposure to it. I doubt I'll be able to earn it (not enough time for me) and I'm not inclined to pay the $100 for the certs. Now, if it was an F6F Hellcat..... :)
The maneuverability is definitely surprising, especially in the hands of skilled pilot like you.

Keep in mind the aircraft was designed during WWII as a high altitude night fighter with a 'new' radar in the nose. Crew was a single pilot, gun operator , and radar operator. The 20mm were mounted in the belly and the 50 cals in a remote control turret (similar to what was in the B-29). The P-61A was actually built with four 50 cals in the turret. I think the B models changed out two of these for 20mm. There was also a C model but I don't recall what was different.

@@PostalMonkey The Air Force Museum at WPAFB in Dayton, Ohio has a restored model on display. In fact, there is a group in Reading, PA that has been restoring one to flying condition for the last 20 years! They have a great website with lots of pictures of the progress.
Some A models did not have the turret, just the 20mm's under the nose. The B model was 8 inches longer and some turrets had two 50's and most had four 50's. The C model had supercharged engines and perforated fighter airbrakes that popped out on the upper and lower surfaces of the wing so the pilot did not overshoot his target from behind.

Hey Postal, great video. I did have a question that is not related to the P-61. I know that you record in 4k, but for some reason that makes it difficult to see text. I was wondering, if you had the ability or desire to upload the 4k video rendering, so that we could watch in 4k? I am not sure if that would help with seeing the text, but just thought I would ask. Love your videos!
Hey there! I actually record Warplanes in 1440 because 4k was way too small.
I'm still mad they modeled four .50 caliber guns for the turret but only gave us two.

Another fine case of "I really want this!" and then not having the time/ambition to earn it. I'm surprised she's so maneuverable.
It's a little broken in that regard. But then again it's speed is bad so there's the balance. Super strong but not a necessity

If I'm by myself, the F82E. You can't always trust your team to destroy ground targets. If I'm in a flight, the P-61. Because then I CAN trust my team to balance lol.

It seems the rear gunner also fires forward kind of like the beaufighter V.
It definitely fires forward. In fact that's its default. Even when some one is behind you and you hop into the gunner view it's facing forward at first
Hey Postal, what's your thoughts of the Black Widow Vs. the XP-58 Chain Lightning? Do you think I would be better off in spending gold on the Chain Lightning than going for the Black Widow? I'm not sure I need both planes.
Great question. They are two completely different planes. It honestly matters your playstyle.
The XP-58 is heavy hitting and has decent speed. It can take down any aircraft it hits but it has poor maneuverability and it's rather large.
The P-61 is basically a multirole fighter. It's slower than the 58 and has weaker guns. However it turns really well and has 60 secs of base boost.
I find myself defending more in the P-61 and attacking more in the XP-58

I did the missions on beta to get some collectable plane and they wore so tedious that after launch I claimed my plane and uninstalled. If I take up the game now will I always get matched against hardcore players that never left or are new players coming to the game all the time? Also is the player base sufficient or you get bots?
There are still players that have been here forever, however there has been a consistent influx of new players too. Regretfully, at least on NA, half the planes are bots. Still having fun though
I’m at stage 45/60 vlfor this grind. All Ive been hearing about the aircraft is how op it is and how much of a b-29c killer it is. From my experience facing it and this video, I’m really not sure where people are getting that it is op. Yes, it is crazy maneuverable with a good turret, but it lacks ordinance and the guns are lackluster. The lack of ordinance makes it difficult to compete for factories and the lower speed and mediocre guns would make it difficult to deal with the b-29c. I’m just not convinced it is op yet. That may change though once I get it and fly it.
What is irritating about the aircraft is how far removed it is from reality. It was designed as a night fighter and did not have nearly this much maneuverability. It honestly should have been much less maneuverable and maybe tier 7 instead without so much fictional stats.
You got it, spot on. Yeah, lost the crazy maneuverability and make it tier VII. Or add the ordinance and make it tier VIII. But either way it's not OP. It is strong, but that will level off once people fight against it more often
I really love this plane but i dont have the time for the grind nor i want to pay for it. Comparing it with the xp58, is it better?
They are different enough. The XP-58 is the better true heavy, taking on heavies, Bombers and GAs. The P-61 is great at taking on the other spectrum of planes (fighters, MRFs, and heavies)

IMO, another WG blunder...XP-61 gets a T8 slot, while the XP-54 stays at T6.
4x20mm cannon, in nose...WEAK? wow. Doubt same IRL.
I suppose that's why I called it 'First Impressions' 😉 compared to the 30, 37, and 40 mm cannons available on the other tier VIII heavy fighters I suspect calling the firepower comparatively weak would not surprise many. But I've been wrong before.

Is it worth $100? The plane itself is not, however the $100 includes all the other items that cost 600 canes. So you'd be getting the other mediocre premiums (meh) and a ton of crates and premium items (nice).
To answer your question: if you prefer maneuverability attacks them you'll love this plane. If you prefer 262 then it's not worth the money but is worth the grind

@@PostalMonkey to match speed is not so importent for a heawy,sometimes negative becouse you can by passing bombers often or other kind airplanes by high speed you know you need more bright radius to turn so its better normal speed or slower for turn better.with breaks for me speed is not mather more clewer manouvers my main task :kill bomber,heawys and if is possibel attackers again and again . after some others lol,its just my opinion you dont need teaching .))
Planes nerfed already. The turret had 4 machine guns in real life , not two . and the blind spot does not seen like a coincidence to me . they wanted the turret nerfed.

Compared to the XP-58 the P-61 had significantly better maneuverability, less DMG guns but longer burst of the guns. Slower top speed but 60 secs of boost.
@@PostalMonkey hıım thanks for info bro in game they traied to take me down when ı m on the way with b29-c until now ı have 4-5 destroyed xp-61 sometimes they take me down when ı have low sp damaged b-29 its good xp for me ,the best hard cowboy is b-29 no mather wich heawy ı take down with also tier ıx f2h ı take it down
