What do you think of the new groupset?
Not bad, but not beautiful..
lovin doddy's tash haha
@sfer1 that escalated quickly.
#askgmbntech
I am looking to replace my old brakes and have them internally routed to my frame. With my new brakes they come pre bled and I am looking to route them however I don’t want to have to bleed them after installation. Is there any way to do this? and how should I route them and cut the hoses to length? I am replacing SRAM level brakes with magura mt5. Please help and I love the Chanel.
It looks nice but I hope this means we can get Shimano 1x12 in cheaper bikes instead of bike with SLX this year having Deore next year at the same price point.
This is what we needed all along. Budget groupset with not so budget features.
Shimano's budget friendly groups are what makes me a "fanboy".
"Look at the details on this!" *films everything black on black*
Its to emphasise that he's managed to grow the bum fluff of a 12 yr old other wise you wouldn't be able to see it.
You guys know there’s a pandemic on right ? Hardly able to film in a studio 😂😂 poor doddies in his shed man
It's called color grading.
It's called 50 shades of, well, kinda black!🤣
@@sapokito123 he definitely picked a serious LUT for this one. I'd just cranked up more light or a white towel.
In a few years theres gonna be a tourney 12 speed
hhah
I don’t think so
That’s scuffed
Yeah 3*12=36 speed tourney...
Lmao
Watch big brands still put SX groupsets on 4k € bikes.
Well otherwise they'd bey 4.5k 🤔
@@noahsutton5911 Meanwhile Canyon or YT sells similar bike for 1.5k
Nah mate, it's now NX on 4K€ bikes. Yippy. Even GX is flexy crap in the rear derailleur. I'll burn through my GX setup and update the cassette, chain and derailleur to 001. Keep the GX cranks only.
Budget should remain on budget bikes. NX and Deore should only be on entry level rides. Heck - I might go XT if the swap out isn't too much. Kudos to Shimano for what they are bringing to the table though - SRAM - up your game.
@@pierrebroccoli.9396 was always wondering why my nx doesnt shift that well think just changing that out for a higher quality derailleur would be good enough?
@@pierrebroccoli.9396 Well to be fair they didn't need to up it since there was no competition in 12 speed until now, SRAM was the first to trickle down 5 levels so they basically could do whatever they wanted until they had real competition.
I'm hoping a response from SRAM, an updated revision on Eagle with slight improvements could put them on par or even ahead again, we will have to wait and see.
This is hands down my favourite MTB groupset. Not only does it offer almost identical performance to the higher end Shimano groupsets, but its full cross compatibility with those groupsets means that you can upgrade any part down the line; handy for if you really want the XT double upshifter or stiffer XTR crank.
I am really glad Doddy left MBUK and came to GMBN. I really love his videos
its been a while since i saw Doddy THAT excited!
Good job Shimano :)
i have a 2015 deore drivetrain on 1x10 setup and im still using it until now on my aggressive hardtail. i used to ride a lot of trail and enduro but i never had any problems with it. thank you GMBN Tech for sharing this!
Cranks look fire will be upgrading for sure from my 2011 deore xt ones. And gmbn tech the best for sure the best!
This is why I love shimano, making as many things they can accessible for most people, love the show by the way🤘
love the vid! i just hope that this comes in a built bike as soon as this quarantine ends. Pretty excited on buying my very first MTB! Keeps up the great vid Doddy!
This groupset is just 🔥🔥🔥. And the review on the product is so detailed.
that was awesome... Shimano never cease to amaze..super blown by the finnish of the components..and never really liked the xtr design on the cranks, prefered the deore and slx ones.. but this is just on another level... truly amazed..lost for words...!!!!
Awesome vid! Perfect timing too since im planning a hardtail build
Thanks Cliff!
Hope you’re holding up well, Doddy. Always a pleasure.
Well I'm very new to ALL of this and your vids sold me. I just ordered an M5100 1x 11/52 Groupset (minus brakes) for my (go ahead and laugh) 2003 (?) Trek 820. I know it's overkill for that bike and that I use it mainly for commuter duties and VERY light trails but your video made me do it.
Thanks Gents! Your shows have cleared up a lot for me. BTW, TREK tech support and Shimano USA bike tech support were awesome in helping me understand and selecting to best choice variables.
I like the way you present technical details of the deore.
My 2018 Norco Sight A3 came out with deore single piston brake and I just upgraded the front to 203mm rotor and the stopping power was unbelievable for a budget brake. I have the new 4 pot system waiting to go on when I get my bike back. Simply good for what you get on a cheap budget.
The use of the Segway graphics in the edit and doddz immaculate hair reminded me of MAX HEADROOM. Great analysis Doddz 👊🏻 X
This is what I loved about Shimano.. Even the non series MT-401 brakes had 4 pistons.. And it performs great.
These are actually so good... Have one on my hardtail and it performs flawlessly
finally, my favourite groupset! time to mix and match!
SRAM SX *left* the chat
😂
Hopefully
SX belongs on 'high end' department store bikes. Absolute junk.
Tbh the SX in my experience gets out of tune more often but peforms well.
@@carlodominiclu2609 SX is not bad, but M6100 has better material quality
The deore group sets are a great choice, for my newest build im slapping on a 1x10 deore group set that cost me only £90!
Doddy looks much younger with his beard :) also yeah, shimano really won the 12-speed category for me. Been riding the GX eagle and the new XT groupset for a while and shimano just works and looks way better. Especially Hyperglide+ is so worth it, as you can shift whenever you want to! Having a even cheaper option than slx makes spareparts down the line even more accessible for everyone. Great work Shimano!
love gmbn tech it's thought me a lot thanks everyone at gmbn

I've seen the pinkbike and vital MTB videos on this system too. Gmbn tech is by far the best quality and most informative mtb tech channel. I love Pinkbike a ton but when I want info only gmbn/gmbn tech delivers this well.
Budget mtb components really have come a long way. Looks great!
Awesome presentation Doddie, what a salesman👊🤩
As someone looking into building a new bike this is great news.
Best global coverage of this launch by far!
I have used this groupset on my polygon siskiu d5 bike ... steady and comfortable to use in all terrains
Nice! I have 1x12 SLX on my Surly ICT, love it! Nice seeing these filter down to the mid level!
You can replace the cassette with Deore once it wears out, it seems the only difference is the one aluminium gear you get with SLX.
Gmbn and gmbn tech both are on the best if not the best for sure the quickest in the game!
Thanks for the kind words!
that's so sick to finally have a new affordable shimano 12 speed drivetrain !!!!
Nice moustache Doddy !
and did they send you a KTM bike ?
Yessss sirr...finally....2021 mtb models is exciting
Shimano rocks.....waited all the time till they bring it....didn't knew they do it but was pretty confident all the time.
Had them all.....from 600th deore over 780/980 6000/9000 to the 7100/7120 slx.....just great.....all of them.
Nice review.. so detailed. Doddy made me wanna buy it.
Doddy spreading the knowledge :)
He legit looks super excited to check it out
I run sram , super impressed by this group set. Well done Shimano . Thanks Doddy
This crankset is amazing!! And more importantly, the interchangeable components SLX, XT and XTR with DEORE will make a perfect group to work. Crankset, chain, brake and cassete DEORE, with rear derailleur and shifter XT/XTR will works perfectly on bike, without a very high price!!! Nice!!!
Wow! Trickled down tech from the high end.
Thanks Calvin
Throw a XT shiftier on and looks like awesome budget option.
Perfect for my hardtail diamondback bike
This groupset is on my 2021 chisel comp and it is great 👍🏻
Absolutely loving the mustache Andrew
Fantastic to see more affordable group sets coming to the market. Was hoping the deore cassette would have the old shimano free hub fitting like NX does.
This is great news!
My first serious mtb had full Deore groupset parts (9 speed, except for the rear derailleur, Deore XT), good times 🥲
I have never been a shimano guy but this has me thinking!
good group set - BUT CHECK OUT THAT MO! Love it
Excellent. I'm already on my second SLX 12 speed rear mech due to branches destroying the first one. Good to know there's a cheaper alternative out there
So relieved I purchased a bike with Shimano Deore gear after watching this.
The original hyperglide has upshift ramps as well, the hg+ ones are just a bit easier to catch. The original hg ones take some particularly precise gear setup and even then often only work under heavier loads. With lighter pedaling the chain tends to jump before it gets to the proper ramp.
Shimano really do know what to do ,what an awesome bit of kit.
I take it you get the Deore 1at then gradually replace with the higher spec component by component Doddy?
Great video GMBN Tech 👍👊
Love the tash doddy, look like an american detective!
Top video mate x
Deore level Shimano is something I expect to just work under every condition. Provided you set them up probably, that is.
I might get the XT shifter for the multi release, though. I'm still not comfortable on one by drivetrains. I've always enjoyed wiggling the two way release to quickly shift, I hope the Deore lever makes that possible with my hands.
Really looks great. Almost possible for me to ignore Doddys mustache while watching. Well done Shimano!
😂 It's one of his lockdown projects!
I am so happy that companies are now designing cheaper and more durable stuff so even if you do not have a lot of money you could still get, for example, a good and durable 1x12 drive train
300 bucks is still 300 bucks. But if they are durable then that's good. I heard the SX Eagle derailleur breaks super fast.
I bought a new bike 2 weeks ago for £1100 with SRAM SX, NX Eagle. Already changed for new Deore hydraulic brakes with 4 pistons. And today ordered rest of the Deore components. My previous bike was fully loaded with Deore XT from years ago. So this time I don’t want to overspend. I am a casual trail rider, so for me this groupset will be more than enough. And quality is on a high level.
Deore 12 speed heck yeah!
I waited for a long time for this
I ride a drag hardy trd witha. Gx eagle drivetrain and deore brakes and i just love both
4piston shimano. Wunderbar. Same size pistons across the entire range really haul you down quick
A fully steel cassette... seems like a perfect option for emtb 😎 @embn
Hopefully this will be everywhere on full builds. Shimano have always done decent budget level drivetrains unlike SRAM. I have heard so many stories of SX and GX drivetrains being unreliable on new bikes from riding mates and the LBS that if I bought a new bike with them on I'd factor in swapping it out for Deore straight away.
The 4 pot deore brake caliper is literally the mt-520 with Deore written on them
I am not an MTB guy, but this looks like a beautiful upgrade for my 3x8 claris/tourney v-brake (mounts for disc brakes are there) city/trekking bike :)
Can't wait to build up my Ragley Mmmbop with this next year
Ooohhh, nice black aggressive aluminum hardtail frame, 64 degree head angle for 150mm forks, and I always thought the Ragley emblem is dope. The purple on the complete bike is hot too though. (edit: and 500 bucks cheaper than the nukeproof scout comp...)
I got the deore group set, only thing I changed was to the lighter xt 165 cranks and oval chainring for my preference, otherwise, great setup so far.
now this is nice. Broke a 10 spd Deore before which I replaced with a Zee. Didn't expect Deore to have a straight up 12 spd. I thought they'll just release an 11 spd for Deore. I'll probably pair this with a Sun Race cassette since I don't have a micro spline hub.
I have deore m6100 cassette, derailleur, shifter and mt200 brakes on a 21lb xc hardtail. Deore is worthy of a privateer xc pro. Deore is awesome
What is that bike... It's gorgeous and the 12 speed on top. That is a stunning setup, I wanna see that bike in more videos!!!
Deore fit and finish and durability far better than crappy SX, NX
yesss
gay shimano is fat and gay
SRAM NX/SX to the rescue if you want to reuse your shimano wheels
Geez if this DEORE 12s price is same as the last gen SLX this will be lit🔥🔥🔥
I love how the chain on the thumbnail spells the word Deore
Good Spot! 👍
From 10speed to 12speed... wow~
gettigng a bike with deore 12sp not yet but I tried it out today and it felt pretty nice not bad .
1X10 (11-42 & 32t chainring) is perfectly reasonable for me and has been for a few years but this might well tempt me to switch to 1X12 when i need to change my casette.
Just installed Deore 5100 groupset, could not get the shifter... got SLX 11. Pretty damn good. Now if I could only get the perfect chainstay on those crancks.
Looks way more appealing than SRAM NX! (not hating on anyone running NX) I also think Doddy's on fire, during this lockdown!
Superb, I'm just about to build a new 27.5 Hardtail. Loos like It will be a 12 speed. I've never been a fan of Sram always had bad luck with their rear mechs.
Perhaps a side by side comparison video of the differences, pro’s and con’s between Deore, SLX and XT? 😁😁😁
Wish shimano put a cable pulley on there derailleurs though, it's the one pro sram have over them and makes up for a lot of negatives to me. Never thought too much about cable pathing at the end before eagle but that little pulley helps a lot with super supple shifts.
I have a oldish xt 2by hardtail this groupo is begging for!
The brakes are rebranded br-mt520/501 and they are surprisingly good, put them on my 2020 trek fuel ex carbon build
Not same design on the lever clamp.
Jan Sæther pretty minor difference though
Great video. Next time, please use bright background when videoing dark item/spareparts. Cheers.
I cant really make out the details on products shown, how am i supposed to like it if i cant eaven see it?
These are seriously bling.
I was looking for budget options outside of SX or NX crap on every lower end enduro bikes. Having new deore around might put these possibly under the dirt. Having myself SLX this looks very promising.
However let's wait for field tests and long term reviews on how these actually perform
So, I gather that I'd have to swap out from standard Shimano driver to Micro Spline in order to run the new Deore 12spd. My current drivetrain is 10spd and I am using Race Face Aeffect R Boost 27.5.
Ceramic pistons just like with groupless oem BR-M520?
Also, bigger news is first shimano hub with cartridge bearings for this deore groupset with splined hub body.
Recently bought BR-M520 and only feature i wished they had was that brake lever body brace against the handlebar. And then this comes out. Would not spend that much probably though.
Doddy rockin’ the STASH bruh
Diggin’ it homie
All pedophiles do.
Honestly it would’ve made more sense if they made it compatible with the hg driver. That’s the nice thing about SRAM Eagle nx/sx. If you have a 11 speed already, it’s easy to get a new drivetrain without having to get a new free hub body
Would love a brighter mat/shirt when showing off completly black set would make it much easier to see the components in detail
Hey Doddy, would you say that the main (only?) difference between Deore and higher end Shimano groups is about lighter materials? Now that Deore seems to include all those technologies used by XTR, what else is there apart from weight?
Great presentation BTW!
I don't care how they look - I care about how they function, and I'm waiting to hear about how they actually function...please do a video on how they function, i.e. how do they compare to the SLX and XT - is it worth spending more?
Love the video
With is beter the deore or sram sx?
