    Heading Thunder Hill next week, couldn’t have come at a better time! Fantastic information. Having only been a handful of times, Im just beginning at track riding and love to see and hear how you approach this track. I’m definitely going to implement your strategies albeit a much slower pace. Just wanted to say ‘thanks’

      I don't know if I'll get around to ride Sonoma this year. I have old footage but usually like to do the Tutorial when it's fresh in my mind. Probably Laguna Seca is coming up first.

    Very good video and I wished I had it at my disposal before my first day at that track. No nonsense honest approach on what your strategy can be if you want to achieve better lap times. QQ, are you running slicks or street/race tires on this video? Trust and confidence in your tires plays a huge role. Much appreciated and thank you for taking the time to prepare and post this video.

      I'm so glad to hear this kind of feedback ! It seriously makes me happy :)
      Yes I totally agree with you tires are the best performance upgrade you can do to your bike to go faster. I run Pirelli Slicks. Usually SC1s some times SC2. You can also use the Pirelli Race DOT tires, same construction as the slick and compound just has some grooves. That way they are legal ( but not ideal ) on the street. They work great and have never let me down.

    I seem to be stuck at b group pace (~2:15 to 2:20) laps depending on traffic. Only done a couple track days so far and I just can't seem to find exactly where I'm losing time other than corner exit. High siding terrifies me tbh lol. Excited to see if I can apply some of this knowledge next time at T-hill. Thanks for making this video!

      I was stuck in the low to mid-teens myself (somehow managed a 2:12 my first ever day there but couldn't match it again next few events) until I recently did the Ken Hill Pro School with Carter's (probably the best Nor-Cal organization - I Love FTD and the others too but still). I finally worked with an instructor for the first time after 15-20 events. The feedback was brutal but accurate and helped me immensely. What was I doing wrong? Bike positioning, aka lines. Very basic things that I THOUGHT I had figured but just didn't. I wasn't using consistent markers for turn in and apex, only for braking. This made me inconsistent, slow, unpredictable and dangerous for faster riders trying to pass me. And in just a few days after fixing this I dropped over ten seconds and am running low-mid 2's now. The school was interesting, but the main thing for me was having feedback from faster riders (everyone I worked with is capable of mid-1:50's there!) and also finally getting go-pro video of myself for multiple laps for the first time.
      Most organizations provide instructors you can work with for free. Take advantage! Look at the pictures from the photographers for some feedback too but video is gold for feedback.

    • @MonoMoto
      @MonoMoto  3 роки тому +4

      Great suggestion! T-Hill West is a bit tricky, as it is run in up to 4 different configurations and luckily it is a very easy to learn track. But I'll think about it and see if I come up with a good solution !

    One suggestion - instead of using UA-cam for playback, use a video player playing a file on your computer. This will avoid the distracting UA-cam splash screen every time you unpause.

    Great vid. My best is a 2:02 and I'm 3 years into riding so really appreciate all your videos as I too want to keep pushing the envelope. Additionally I also have a 2020 s1000rr. Curious why you are at 0 for the TC. I'm usually either -3 or -4. Given you are posting better times I'm curious to hear why you run with more TC. Thanks in advance and keep the vids coming!

    • @MonoMoto
      @MonoMoto  3 роки тому +2

      Well TC saved me a few times from crashing. As long as I feel it does not hold me back why go lower? You see I did with TC 0 1:57s and if you get your rear sliding it has a better chance to safe you. So in short I always go with the highest setting that feels like it's not holding me back. But I only go lower if I actually can feel it holding me back.

    • @MonoMoto
      @MonoMoto  3 роки тому +2

      @@TylerTron21 You are absolutely right. I still rely a lot on it and in 2020 was really mostly focusing on lines and braking. in 2021 I'll go a bit lower in TC settings in general. The recorded lap however is also on a pretty used rear slick and usually at the end of the day when it's almost done I'll increase TC after it starts slipping. Definitely something fun to play around with.

    • @MonoMoto
      @MonoMoto  3 роки тому

      Yeah on a 2020 S1000 you don't wanna turn it off fully as it's so good it'll make everyone faster with TC on. But finding the right level based on track and tires and skill is a fine art in itself.

    • @jkalkstein
      @jkalkstein 3 роки тому +1

      @@MonoMoto Ya that was solely what I was commenting on. Your times are faster than mine so certainly no expert here however I've seen a lot of guys who are posting low 1:50's with their TC turned to -5 and -6. But again, it's because they are that much better/experienced than I am.

    How do you keep the motorcycle from pushing you back on the straits at full throttle? My First year on a 1000 (13 s1000rr) and when I go full throttle I feel like the bike pushes me bike in my seat, making me just want to hold on to handles instead of focusing on the track

    • @MonoMoto
      @MonoMoto  3 роки тому +1

      great question and probably complex enough to make a full video about it , but in short it's with your body position. Sliding back is bad as it upsets the bike and will make it wheelie more. Being locked into the bike with feet, knees and hands does the trick.
