He actually did fine in the Lego movie, but he was basically just playing his character from Parks and Rec there. It seems like he only knows how to do a couple different "types" of character, and things like Mario and Garfield are out of his range

He got so big off of Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World, he's one of the few acting and voice acting actors, and a perfect generic like-able man kinda character, so he fits everything, and gets in everything. Execs only see big name, big money, they're putting a square peg in a round hole, same situation with Tom Holland. Chris Pratt seems a nice guy, and he's a good voice actor for the roles he should be doing, like Emmet.

Executives really gotta understand that famous voice actors are not by default also good voice actors. To be fair even if I did think Chris Pratt was a good VA he still wouldn't be my pick for Garfield, but the point stands.
They probably do assume that voice acting and acting are not that different, but all those movies that feature all-star casts seem to choose actors for the sole purpose of bringing in an audience and making money. I think many in Hollywood are convinced that you NEED big name stars to sell an animated movie, for some reason. And as long all-star cast movies make money, their bias will always be confirmed to them. Although to be fair, there have been many movies and shows that featured actors that did a phenomenal job of voice acting. Chris Pratt just doesn’t seem to be one of those actors.

It really transmits and shares the feeling from the old Garfield animations. Love the fur too, its fluffy but not overly realistic or THAT THING FROM THAT LIVEACTION MOVIE, he is the fluffiest grumpball that eats lasagna.

The most disappointing thing about the voice is that I feel like Chris Pratt could’ve done a great Garfield voice if they let him. Chris Pratt Garfield definitely could’ve been good with proper direction instead of the generic Hollywood iconography route.

Heck, he'd probably make an even better Garfield with his voice. Aside from seeing Kitten Garfield in the beginning, I just don't have much interest in this movie.
I'm not a big fan of Chris Pratt as Garfield either. I wish he had altered his voice to make it more like Lorenzo Music's portrayal of the character in the 80's and 90's cartoon, because he WAS Garfield. Also, I think what they were trying to do with the designs was mix the older designs of the characters with the newer ones; for Garfield, the early-mid 80's design mixed with the modern one, and for Jon and Odie, they mixed their modern designs with the 1978 ones. If you look at the CG models made for the movie, and compare them with the comic strips from that era, you'll see what I'm saying.
my main issues are 1. chris pratt, of course... 2. i wish there was a bigger visual separation (not spatial separation yuck) between the eyes, darker shadow/outline or somethin

I think the trailer looks really good and I wanna see the movie, but in my head Garfield still sounds like either Bill Murray or he has the deep, lazy voice from the cartoons
Chris Pratt did I have no issue with Chris Pratt, I loved the Mario Bros movie, but an effort was made to make sure he acted like Mario. That effort was clearly not on the agenda for this movie. Quite frankly, I just don't understand why you'd want to make a Garfield movie, and not want him to sound like Garfield. They could get any voice actor to play Garfield, but if they don't make him sound like Garfield, then it's not Garfield.
They really need to ban Chris Pratt from all recording studios so he stops giving iconic characters the voice of a checked out actor who isn’t even an actual voice actor

I don't even hate Chris Pratt, and I'm not even a major fan of Garfield, in fact, I'd go as far to say that I'm not a fan at all because I've just never really had an interest in Garfield, but I do know he's supposed to have a low, monotone, borderline bored tone to his voice, and Chris Pratt just isn't even attempting to do that. And then there's Samuel L Jackson, too, and like, I've got nothing against him either, but he also just takes roles for paychecks, I can't imagine that he actually cares about this at all, he's just doing it for the money. Heck, he'd probably make an even better Garfield with his voice. Aside from seeing Kitten Garfield in the beginning, I just don't have much interest in this movie.
I'm not a big fan of Chris Pratt as Garfield either. I wish he had altered his voice to make it more like Lorenzo Music's portrayal of the character in the 80's and 90's cartoon, because he WAS Garfield.
Also, I think what they were trying to do with the designs was mix the older designs of the characters with the newer ones; for Garfield, the early-mid 80's design mixed with the modern one, and for Jon and Odie, they mixed their modern designs with the 1978 ones. If you look at the CG models made for the movie, and compare them with the comic strips from that era, you'll see what I'm saying.

2. i wish there was a bigger visual separation (not spatial separation yuck) between the eyes, darker shadow/outline or somethin
Nothing controversial about this opinion. Visuals look great! I'll just have to watch the Spanish dub with English subtitles to allow me to enjoy the experience.

I think the trailer looks really good and I wanna see the movie, but in my head Garfield still sounds like either Bill Murray or he has the deep, lazy voice from the cartoons
Chris Pratt did I have no issue with Chris Pratt, I loved the Mario Bros movie, but an effort was made to make sure he acted like Mario. That effort was clearly not on the agenda for this movie. Quite frankly, I just don't understand why you'd want to make a Garfield movie, and not want him to sound like Garfield. They could get any voice actor to play Garfield, but if they don't make him sound like Garfield, then it's not Garfield.
They really need to ban Chris Pratt from all recording studios so he stops giving iconic characters the voice of a checked out actor who isn’t even an actual voice actor
