We love a good day trip! Even more so when it’s by train. Today we finally got to try South Korea’s bullet train, also known as KTX. We traveled a loooong 414 km from Seoul to Busan, which not only felt like a breeze since it was so fast… but also because we upgraded to first class! We're tucking into some seriously good Korean food along the way and getting our fill of the fantastic views whizzing past us. Join us for the ride and enjoy a taste of Korea!

I went to South Korea five years ago, and I think I was in the future for more than 10 to 20 years than here in the U.S., and I remember that the cities and regions where very modern architecture and classical architecture are harmonized. The food was so diverse and delicious, the people were so kind, and the streets were so clean that it remained a very good memory. I still want to visit South Korea again.

It’s not that the train system SK is specifically advanced, it’s more like ones in NA need massive overhaul. I think European trains are the best, especially the ones in west Europe.

Thank you for your trip to Korea.
I have indicated the explanation below, but I have written it down for your reference.
The Korean KTX-1 was first operated in 2004 after obtaining a license to make TGV trains in France in the 90s. So the train you're on has a bit of a European feel to it. After that, I would like you to use the KTX Sancheon, SRT and KTX Eum trains.

Omg you have to mix the whole ingredients(vegetables, mushrooms, meat) with sauce and rice when you eat bibimbab.
Most Asian countries don't mix rice with sauce and toppings, but especially Korea we usually mix rice with sauce.
So spoon is necessory with bibim-bab, but almost every Western foreigners do the same mistake; eating bibimbab with chopsticks, without mixing it.
    It's ok it's a really common mistake.
I'm glad you enjoyed the meal and had a good time : )

    1) In Korea, there is a saying to take off your shoes, but you have to put your feet on the train footrest with your shoes on.
    2) Bibimbap sold at 7-Eleven is the best
    3) KTX has high-speed and general lines. On the regular line, trains are slow, but on the high-speed line, they go up to 300km/h
    4) In a few years, there will be a new high-speed train called EMU-320 that can run up to 320km/h

It will be a little bit more loose. So It could make a short circuit or disconnect. It is not tight as when you using in Europe. I recommend you have a converter (gender) for your sockets.

I’ll have to check the luggage out, I need a better carry on. Yeah, I agree- train travel is so much better. On planes people are packed in so tight. Love the food bowls with rice underneath. Great idea and looks yummy. Safe travels you two

Kind of surprised actually...i took a business class ride on the maglev out of Shanghai and they gave us a lunch meal, beverages, and a large amount of snacks. Regardless, I'm looking forward to riding this train next time I'm in Seoul ❤

So you can bring food onto the train and eat at your seats? Is there any regulation against that?

    • @2Passports1Dream
      @2Passports1Dream  4 місяці тому +1

No regulation, I think as long as you respect others and don’t eat something like durian 😂 all is good. It’s for the long bullet trains though and is probably very different for any local trains.

Korean traditional food is not spicy at all. Chili was rarely used in the Joseon Dynasty. Most of the spicy Korean food was made within 50 years. Kimchi was originally a white radish without pepper. The sauces for bibimbap, bibimmyeon, and tteokbokki were all soy sauce. It is speculated that the reason why pepper was used was because salt was expensive in Korea at the time, so cheap red pepper was used instead. But even now, there are much more non-spicy Korean foods such as seolleongtang, gomtang, seaweed soup, japchae, samgyetang, dakbaeksuk, cold soy bean noodles, Pyeongyang naengmyeon, grilled fish, grain porridge, Tteok, tteokguk, bulgogi, jeon, braised ribs, neobiani. Even now, Korean traditional New Year's Day and ancestral rites do not include chili peppers at all. Foods sold in restaurants or stores tend to be more stimulating than home-cooked meals. If you watch the drama Dae Jang Geum, which is based on the cuisine of the Joseon Dynasty, you will not see any food with chilli in it.
