This is such an amazing and beautiful film. I had the pleasure to see it on a flight when going out to visit friends and enjoyed sharing it with my partner after picking up a Criterion copy.
I've never heard of the film maker Juzo Itami or his movies, but I can already tell that through this introduction I am probably going to love their entire body of work. Thank you for making this video
Food stylists are so interesting. I really enjoy learning all the tricks and considerations they need to adapt to for the various needs of their client. Whether it's an ad for fast food or a lush banquet on the big screen.
Tampopo is one of the greatest films ever made. It's funny, it's intelligent, it's bonkers, it's sexy, it's silly, it's dramatic, it's sad, it's completely insane. And it WORKS.
It's amazing how Tempopo and eat drink man woman are able to use the same cinematic techniques for depicting food for completely different emotional stakes
Your video essays are pretty good, why didnt i discover your channel earlier?!!. One of my fav scenes in any movie is the one where the mother cooks a last meal to her family before she dies, her last image before she passes 😭😭😭.
Just watch Tampopo for the first time a few days ago excellent film. This video really does the movie justice keep doing what you're doing man your videos are great
The Gangster and his girlfriend sequence, chopped up and scattered throughout the film, but basically book ending it, is a masterful evocation of "your life flashing by like a movie, as you lie dying..." The character himself tells you right off the bat, but I don't think anyone notices ( this was years before "The 6th Sense.") Death/decay lurks throughout this movie.
I will reupload the video except it'll be a seamless four hour cut of the egg scene. Put lofi beats in the background. Call it: Lo-Fry Beats to Yolk Swap/Relax to. Watch the algorithm explode.
Every time I watch one of your videos, I don't understand how you don't already have 1m subscribers. Top notch, keep it up!
Agreed!

Thank you very much for referencing my old blog review. It is a rarity to see references under a YT video these days. Great video essay, btw.
Of course! Thank you for writing the review
The amount of people in your comments who had not seen Tampopo is criminal. Yes, it is underrated.

Such a hidden gem: both movies from this director and this channel itself. Thank you for the video, definitely gonna check them out.
Amazing movie analysis, editing and narration.
Damn the editing is top tier. Fantastic video.
Spectacular presentation, very concise and artistically sound way of reviewing this masterpiece ❤

Agreed. But EDMW is more of a love affair with food and family. Both beautiful films though, and both funny and poignant in their way.
You channel is the best thing i've seen about movies. ❤

this somehow reminds me of a scene in Kaguya Love is war where they were just having a show off on how to properly eat a bowl of ramen 🤣
5:41 anyone have a link for this interview?
It's from the Making of Tampopo, a 90 minute bts documentary, highly recommend it

Nah, some things are maybe better iRL than having to observe others 🤢
The big night should be on that list.
Top demais i love Tampopo
I'm eating a Costco muffin with a glass of milk.
I was just eating food
Second best movie about food: Stephen Chow's God of Cookery. yw.
The slurping westerner at 5:05min was not an American, he was an Italian.
That’s perfect eating spaghetti like a real human
