After I saw my dad in an open casket, it was the only way I saw him for months or years. It was so vivid in my mind and so shocking to see him that way. For that reason, I chose a closed casket for mom....so I and others would remember her as she was in life. This legacy you are leaving is wonderful! And I like the idea of a QR code.
Three days ago I cleared my telefone voice recorder after I saved all the lovely voices of our ancestries. Over the years they had called us and talked to us on the recorder. Then some of them left us forever. We have one funny speech of my mother in law, not more. But its better than nothing. I love it. All my sisters, brother, father, aunt, cousins, neighbours, friends.... They are all in my ears forever.
I hit the magic age of 65 today. Talking with my wife just before we arrived at our choice of restaurant I learned of your channel. Via the search I subscribed before even watching any of your content. Once we returned home I viewed your “cooking cuts of meat” offering, An old way of preparation and cooking lower quality beef! My dad was a cook in the Marine Corps. He taught me many ways to prepare shoe leather, your method was one I learned as a kid from my dad. I was intrigued! Before retiring I launched your piece on leaving a legacy. Tomorrow is another day but for the moment I’m leaning heavily towards being a fan. I’m not a strong proponent of the minimalist approach to content creation mostly because what I am selecting to leave as my legacy is a strong love of gadgetry. Lacking a tactile element in UA-cam content will require excellent photography and a substitution of SHOW & tell for the missing show & TOUCH. Somewhere in the future I hope we cross paths. Until then I’ll see you next time!
Man…what a gift. Your kids and grandkids are lucky to have you. I hope they realize it. I lost my mom and dad when I was 29 and 32 years old. I’m 45 now and I still can hear their voice but I worry I will lose that one day. My sister also passed in 2020 from cancer at 47 years old. I wish I had more videos and audio of her too. ❤ what a wonderful gift you’re creating.
You’re so right. I lost my daddy when he was 59 (an age I’m quickly approaching) and I miss his laugh so much. Thankfully, I do have some video and audio of him from my wedding day, before he got sick, when he still looked like my daddy. It’s difficult to watch, and I’ve only managed to do so once since losing him, but thank goodness I have it. You are giving your children and grandchildren and beyond a beautiful gift. A gift they may not fully appreciate at the moment, but they will. Our generation didn’t grow up with cell phones and almost every moment captured in photo or video and kept in our pocket. As grateful as I am that my youth wasn’t documented as such (phew!) it also means we don’t have the physical, auditory proof/memories.
That's an amazing gift! I lost my Dad when I was 13, and my Mom when I was 26. This video made me tear up because I've lost 3 brothers as well, all without movies to hear their voices. When I lost my Wonderful Husband of 40 years to cancer in 2013, I went back to our Family videos that we had made while our kids and grandkids were growing up. Although they make me miss those times, I am so grateful to be able to hear their voices, giggles, jokes...God Bless you for leaving your family this Legacy!
This is such very good advice. My most precious possession is a telephone message on my landline from my late Mother. I don't know how to preserve it and I fear losing it, but it is worth all the treasures in the world to me to hear her voice. I do not have children but I would encourage everyone to consider making recordings for their loved ones & posterity. What gifts they would be. Greetings from England.
My husband has a very distinct speaking voice..and you've given me the idea to "interview him"* on video so that his children and grandchildren can access his voice well into the future. I don't think I ever would have ever thought of this without watching your video. *(He's not the type to just talk into a video on his own...but if I ask him questions I know he will love it and the family will love it too).
My Grandad (born 1900) recorded his whole life history on cassette tapes which we gave to him as a Christmas present when he was in his 70s. My Dad turned them into a digital format and I have made copies and shared with my children. Being able to hear my Grandads voice and his wonderful stories is so precious. I love your idea of leaving a legacy on your channel. I’d like to do the same thing. I’m transitioning to retirement at the moment, so may take a while for me to do this as still detangling myself from an academic life! Thank you for your inspiration and practical ideas. Much appreciated
I have been given several books of “Grandma’s memories “ that you fill in for your grandchildren. They are okay but I love the idea of recording videos so there’s a record of my voice. Also as another viewer commented, asking my husband questions and videoing that so they have a record of him too! Loving all the videos I have seen so far. Well done 😊
This is a great idea. I retired a couple of years ago. I have 3 grown kids that never knew my dad. He passed when I was 22. I have one granddaughter that just turned 7. She was an infant when I lost my husband to cancer. What a gift you have begun for your children and grandchildren.
As a photographer- with my rule of 12 pictures-plus one-to tell the story of a experience - your 10 min, 10 words or less is spot on. People get frustrated when I tell them this- mostly because it involves work and thought. But the results are usually fantastic. Congrats on your growing channel - got in way early and happy I did. PS: the sound quality is excellent - good mic choice.
Thank you! I came across your channel on my UA-cam Stream. Your encouragement in explaining how simple it is to leave a video legacy has inspired me to not shy away from such a endeavor. I also wanted to let you know I love your funeral idea and I totally get it!! In fact, it made literally laugh out loud! Years ago, I told my children I wanted a Drive Thru Funeral. My friends and family could just drive up to the window. A simple push of a button would start a series of events. The curtain would open, lights would turn on, I would sit up in my casket, turn my head, smile and verbally thank them for coming. My children looked at me in HORROR! Ha-ha! With that I will leave you with wishes for a great evening!
I love your motivation. Your family will treasure your videos, and we viewers get to enjoy as well. My father passed away in 2019 at the age of 81. Most of our conversations over his last 30 years were over the phone. One of the things I miss most is the reassurance and comfort in his encouraging words and the sound of his voice with his beautiful Georgia accent. It's from an older generation, and it's hard to find anymore.
So great seeing local areas in the photos!! I am thinking about recording some videos for family also. I am the oldest of 6 kids in my family and the historian as my younger sisters tell it. When I die there won’t be anyone else who knows family history left to tell it
Such a unique & great idea, qr code. I am a saver of things, 1st note my husband left on my door, a note left for me on the toilet paper & a couple of voice mails. That 1st note is now in a frame, sitting along side his ashes. The 2 saved voicemails somehow ended up in my playlist, so I get to hear his voice from time to time ❤😢 We had 3 wonderful years together, traveling on his harley, making a lifetime of memories!! It has been just over 3 yrs since I had that knock on my door from a deputy sheriff, so now I am just taking it day by day. Thank you for sharing your time & ideas with us all. Be blessed in all you do.
I’m a new subscriber- your video about decluttering just popped up on my feed. I clicked on it because it is relevant in my life at this moment. So I did what we all do, I started watching your other videos. This one really hit home. My dad passed away when I was only 12, (I just turned 64). and you are so right to create your videos as your legacy. It’s so incredibly sad when you forget the voice of your loved ones. A few years ago my brother found a tape that my dad recorded of a speech he was practicing. What a gift that was. I,find myself keeping voicemails of my mom- who is 84- for that precise reason. I look forward to more videos from your channel.
The QR code is a great idea. Maybe the code printed on a card so they can hear your voice when they like . You do you with your videos. I am looking forward to your future content!!
Glad I found your channel. I love the idea of the QR code! I’m sure my kids and friends would smile, nod, and look at each other knowingly. “Yeah, that’s sooo Mom😊”
I just came across your video and I just love them! I’m 65 and trying to down side. We had burst pipes at Christmas and that FF me to it. My house is been totally redone so giving me the chance to start over fresh. No more clutter! It’s hard but I’m getting there! Kitchen is being redone and that’s been interesting as a purge! Thank you so much these are great! 💖
Leaving a legacy like this is such a wonderful idea! I understand about losing the memory of voices. I was happy that I had a lot of my Mom’s voicemails but they were lost a year or so after she passed away. We changed phone providers and I had no thoughts about saving them until I realized they were gone - the property of the former phone provider. I never thought to record videos of her..but I have a lot of photographs and that will do.
Thank you, Tim. This is fantastic. For several years now I've been thinking about a video legacy. I've even recorded several short clips but haven't done anything with them yet. I'm just a year behind you in age, so I'm also thinking about sharing some things I'm experiencing as I get closer to age 66 and 10 months (you younger folks won't get that). Bless you, brother. I'll be following either on my account or my wife's.
This is an excellent idea! I only have an answering machine recording of my Dad’s voice. I haven’t played since he passed. It’s one of my most treasured possessions.
What a legacy for your family... I still get upset when I think about losing voicemails from my mom and sister after they passed. My phone crashed and AT & T said all my data was going to be transferred when I got the new one. Not even close!! I stood in the store crying when I realized the messages were gone... Thank you for a great channel!
I just bumped into your channel. Love this video and will watch the other ones. Loved all your ideas. I retired on June 30, just 2 weeks ago, and I am still landing on this new chapter.
I thought I could write my stories, but found it more difficult than expected, so thank you for sharing this idea! I hope to incorporate it into my life.
i agree its very important to keep a voice message from loved ones..when my mother passed i quickly saved all of her old voice messages so i could listen to her whenever i needed 🥰
Can so relate to this video . My brother was killed in a boating accident in 1981, I don't remember his voice anymore, but I remember him as a drummer ,funny how music stays . My dad was in '91 . His voice is faint now . Mom was more recent 2006 , I still hear her . Great ideas.
Thank you for this encouraging video. I started my UA-cam channel on March 14, 2024, to leave some of me for my children. I've been researching my family tree for 40+ years, and over those years, I've made tape recordings of my parents, husband, children, and other family members. But, there were none of me. I love the QR code idea. I talk to my children about what will happen when I'm gone. They think I'm morbid, but they'll appreciate it when I'm gone!
This advice is so completely precious and important. Your insight and generosity in sharing has come to UA-cam at an extremely pivotal time. You’re awesome 💕 Hello from Australia 🇦🇺
Thank you for this video. I'm 70 years old. I too wish to leave a legacy for my kids. I sing, I have always been a singer, so voice is very important to me. Thankfully I still hear many of my deceased family members voices, but no else can. I do much better with video or sound when learning. recently discovered I have ADHD. Writing and reading are my challenge. I've been attempting to write 2 journals for my 2 kids. But I find that so tedious and boring. In addition I've wanted to start a UA-cam channel to help young people navigate this world of excess - too much plastic, too many unnecessary products to waste your money on, chemicals that are harming our environment, plastic everywhere and one use everything. They need help and so do their children. You've given me a solid idea. Now I know I can create something for them and maybe a little something for the world. Thank you!
this vid brought tears to my eyes - I would love to press a button and hear my father talking to me again....I think thats an amazing idea and kudos to you for thinking of it...thanx for this! ♥
When I was an advertising copywriter, the rule of thumb was that, at 55 mph, a driver could only read and retain 7 words from a billboard. A tip o' the chapeau to you, Tim, for keeping the vids brief (-ish). And I think the QR code idea is a smash!
I love what you’re doing-creating a legacy! If you are led to go this way or that way-places, food, updates, ideas, whatever it is-let your heart and soul be your guide! Your thoughtfulness of voice, laugh and expressions are the things I wish I had captured of my parents. I’m 60 years old and just growing wiser! God bless!
Love your channel. I recently was able to restore a VCR tape of my father, holding my firstborn. He had never heard his grandfather's voice or seen a video of him until now. Thanks for the idea of a QR code. God bless!
I made a series of tape recordings of my mom about 3 months before she passed away. Of course I didn't know that the end was that near, but I realized she was definitely old (83) and I just wanted to have some tapes where she had dictated her "memoirs". I so glad I did that.
I think the QR code thing is a great idea--show what you were about for future generations! Be able to tell them how you love them and how you loved your life. So Awesome!
I like the 10 minutes or less idea! I subscribe to some channels that are great, but they are 28 minutes, 34 minutes, etc. Too long for one sitting to watch. Thanks for taking the time to do these videos!
New subscriber here. And I remember the fear I had when I could no longer hear my mom's voice. She died over 23 years ago. I was only 39. And I am tearing up just writing this. I don't want that for my kids and grandkids . So thank you for the great ideas that I want to utilize.
I am so lucky, my father had a great singing voice, and some of my earliest memories are of Mom and Dad singing special hymns at church. So, his voice is engraved on my memory especially the hymn "How Great Thou Art", and him playing "Wildwood Flower" on the guitar. We have VHS videos of mom and dad singing, and Sony video of family gatherings that are so precious now. I guess I'm a bit different about the end of my life and planning my funeral. I see myself a lot like my grandfather on my mother's side of the family. He worked the last day that he lived, he never spoke of death and dying, he died at the age of 79. With my grandfather, it was all about projects and setting goals, make every day count, like you are going to live forever, he loved the Lord, and his family. I have taken the old home VHS tapes and Sony tapes and converted them to digital, something everyone should do because image quality on VHS and Sony deteriorates and the color also shifts, so it's important to preserve the memories! I have also scanned old photos of my grandparents and then shared them with family members... a piece of genealogy for future generations!
Thank you for your story. My dad also sang in church. When traveling, he would sing all 4 parts of Gospel quartet songs. I miss that. I’m thinking of a video like that in his honor.
I was going to wait and comment on the very first video of yours that I watched, but what you just said echoes exactly how I feel. I have 4 channels. Only one that I have ever really used. But I basically have abandoned it for now. However, just as you, if a video is more than roughly 12 minutes, I just move along and I subscribe to several channels. I'll wait to say more when I return to that other video.
I am 57 year old now and lost my mother when I was 18, and boy you're so right....I have totally forgotten how her voice sounded. I can still picture her angry at me, drunk, smiling and laughing ...but I can't HEAR her. I only have very few photos of her, so it makes so much sense what you're doing for your kids and grandkids and thank god for smartphones, Facebook, Snapchat etc. BTW think I'm gonna steal your idea with a QR code ...that's absolutely brilliant 🤩 Looking forward to follow your journey
I have suffered from depression since I was 12 years old. I am now 69. I find that coffee helps me snap out of it in many instances. My mood and energy level change for the better. Now I have 10 more reasons for drinking coffee. Thank you😊
I love this idea. What a wonderful thing you are doing! It would have been great to have some of this content from my parents. I might try a little for my own kids and grands though I’m not sure i have much interesting to say!
I miss Mom's voice. After she passed in 2008 I switched phone companies, and have saved voicemails of a lot of family. Now Dad is gone, Grandma is gone, my Aunt is gone, I have their voices....
I lost my Dad in 1969, when I 13 yrs old. My Mom passed just 20 months ago. I can’t remember my Dad’s voice. I have a few videos of my Mom. What an amazing gift to give your children!! Love the QR code idea!!❤
I have a 16 month old, and you’ve reminded me how important it is to record at least a little bit of my voice or video. I’m going to start that. Thank you.
We're so lucky we've reached this far of digital age where everything can be recorded in audio/video, remembering someone is easy in touch of a finger...we've come dis far from statues, letters, pictures voice recording etc...we're fond of memories when we're old?
My Dad would’ve loved a QR code at his funeral last year. In fact, he would have loved to attend his own funeral, held on a gorgeous spring day. He would’ve gotten a kick out of watching the movie of his life (visitation video), hearing himself eulogized by his pastor, best friend, & youngest granddaughter. I can just see him looking at all the framed photos on the visitation table & enjoying the lunch served afterwards. I know he would’ve been overjoyed to visit with family & friends. It’s not morbid to think this way.
Your videos on becoming a UA-cam creator have become so helpful for me and my grandson as I endeavor to support his longtime dream to create content, he’s now 11. Early signs of his interest started when he was 4. Since he was 5 he’s been teaching himself about video editing by starting with an old iPad. Then he discovered advanced editing tools like Adobe Creator, and I discovered the price tag so he had to explore less expensive options. Fast forward to now, his approaching 12th b-day, and my realization it’s time to more seriously support his dream by letting him have his own channel (still monitored by me) to see what he can really do with it. Until your videos I really didn’t understand how it all works so Thank You for breaking it down in such a comprehensive and easy to follow way. Even he enjoyed sitting down and rewatching with me, bonus he learned some new things.
Hi again, I love your idea. Please make a video illustrating how to make personal private videos for your children and future generations. Without having to text it to them at the moment or setting up a UA-cam channel.
This is a wonderful idea and not the first time I’ve heard of it, although different. I realize I interact with my kids but it’s usually them doing all the videos and pictures. I actually only have about 7 or so photos of me with my kids because we never had money, and the few photos we had are gone too.
The QR Code idea is genius!
🤣🤣🤣
The QR code is now expected!
@@dma9621 ROFL! You'll just have to attend and find out. :)
Love the idea !!!!
That’s a very clever idea and I’m sure it would bring a smile to people’s faces - even at your funeral.
Thank you for sharing yourself and your tips for leaving a legacy. Wonderful🙋🏼♀️
Well said Tim.
😊
that is good and of course it is important that you leave something that someone will be able to remember you by

I understand your reasons
I just came across your channel. Thank you for the legacy posts.

Finally, a good reason for videos. I think this idea is a great one.
Perfect idea!

I love the QR code funeral idea! I find the simplicity of how you're producing your channel content VERY encouraging.

love the idea as well
This is an excellent idea!
Great new channel! I agree the clear concise videos are focused and easy to fit into a busy schedule.
3:00 I get it, I hope one day they understand too. In times of grief, a laugh is always a good place to start. Thanks for being you.
i agree its very important to keep a voice message from loved ones..when my mother passed i quickly saved all of her old voice messages so i could listen to her whenever i needed 🥰
Can so relate to this video . My brother was killed in a boating accident in 1981, I don't remember his voice anymore, but I remember him as a drummer ,funny how music stays .
My dad was in '91 . His voice is faint now . Mom was more recent 2006 , I still hear her . Great ideas.
I’m so sorry for your losses. Thank you for being open enough to share them.
💚
I completely agree with this advice. My mom passed 5yrs ago and my husband 14 yrs ago and I long to hear their voices! Enjoying the channel so far!
You got this! Just subscribed through my photography channel!
@@TheNewRetiredMe Thank you Tim.
👍😊
true about your children
@@akontarini Thank you.
great storyteller!
very enjoyable he is, isn't he?
God bless!
💚
Love your channel. I recently was able to restore a VCR tape of my father, holding my firstborn. He had never heard his grandfather's voice or seen a video of him until now. Thanks for the idea of a QR code.
God bless!
Just beautiful story!
such an amazing gift to the family!
hearwarming!
I absolutely LOVE the idea about the QR code for the message at the funeral. Its fantastic! Also, I love your videos ❤
❤❤❤😂😂😂
I think is great!
From Oak Ridge!! You are living in my old world!!
Hello, neighbor!
Lucky and blessed you are to have grandchildren. I have two children who have no children.
Just Loved Your Show 💟
What you are doing with these videos is wonderful. The idea of a QR code is lovely. I lost my Dad 15 years ago and I miss him so much. ❤
Great plan! 10 minutes is perfect. I’ve learned to play long videos at high speed! Lol
Thanks for the tour! I’ll put it on my list!
😊
😊
I made a series of tape recordings of my mom about 3 months before she passed away. Of course I didn't know that the end was that near, but I realized she was definitely old (83) and I just wanted to have some tapes where she had dictated her "memoirs". I so glad I did that.
This is great! I found you today, and this is what I need. People say that I should write a book. Thank you.
💚
I’ve been up since 3am adding to a journal that I’ve been adding stories of my upbringing. My hope is to turn it into a book.
I wish I had a book like that passed on to me...Good luck and I think that will be worth your efforts.
👍🏻
💚💚💚
The QR code on your photo is brilliant!! I may use that idea for myself. I'm newly retired, as well.
Beautiful concept. Great idea. The visuals in this video are superb.
I have suffered from depression since I was 12 years old. I am now 69. I find that coffee helps me snap out of it in many instances. My mood and energy level change for the better. Now I have 10 more reasons for drinking coffee. Thank you😊
👍😊❤
happy that coffee works for you!❤
good idea!!
What a great video and great idea with the QR code.
brilliant!
Inspirational. Thank you!
😢❤
I lost my Dad in 1969, when I 13 yrs old. My Mom passed just 20 months ago. I can’t remember my Dad’s voice. I have a few videos of my Mom. What an amazing gift to give your children!! Love the QR code idea!!❤
❤
👍
I have a 16 month old, and you’ve reminded me how important it is to record at least a little bit of my voice or video. I’m going to start that. Thank you.
Have fun with it!
👍😊🙂
beautiful idea!
♡ Great reflections, and encouragement.
I was thinking you had a nice speaking voice and would make a good story teller. Love the funeral idea. I'm stealing it.
This is a wonderful idea!
Our kids never understand it until that one day when they do 😂 That’s all part of the fun
😂😂😂
We're so lucky we've reached this far of digital age where everything can be recorded in audio/video, remembering someone is easy in touch of a finger...we've come dis far from statues, letters, pictures voice recording etc...we're fond of memories when we're old?
Fabulous idea- the QR code as well as having a visual and audio record of your life.
Thank You for sharing👍
🙂😊
nice
I've seen headstones with QR codes and also 3D images.
I hope he does great things with his channel!
😊😊😊
good luck to him!❤
This is your 2nd vid I have watched. I subscribed. Thanks.
Welcome!
I really appreciate the shorter time format of your videos. Most folks could say what they have to say in much less time. :)
Totally love the QR code idea! Wish I'd thought of that! 😃
☺️👍😊
