Fun fact: stone of gurranq has an almost infinite projectile lifespan, meaning you can hit someone on the ground from on top of a high cliff. Not super practical, but it's funny
With these incantations, I feel like you were meant to use the Cinquedea to take advantage of guard breaks. The incantations do comparatively good posture damage, the seal and dagger scale similarly, and you’re going to be holding the dagger in your other hand anyway. Maybe the quickstep skill was to make up for the inability to hold a shield?
The Cinquedea is pretty bad. It scales with pure str, while the Claw Seal soft caps at 45/45 str/fth. So they don't synergize well. It's useless as a weapon if you go with the Erdtree Seal. Then it gets no bonus modifier to crit damage. It is shockingly subpar for anything other than boosting spell damage. The entire Beast line is kinda weird. Beast Roar is a Dex AoW, so it sucks for a str/fth build. The Beastclaw Greathammer is mostly a Quality weapon, getting little scaling from fth. It's like whomever designed all the Beast equipment and spells had no interest in making them all usable with the same build. It's random.
@@arellajardin8188 Actually, I've been beating Tulok to the Beast Clergyman starting class (no I'm not doing that great, 10 hours in and I just reached Mountaintop because I don't like this game). The beast spells do a pretty good job of covering the Cinquedea's weaknesses, while the CInquedea itself has pretty good damage and reach for a dagger, which pairs nicely with its fast dagger speed. If you treat the beast spells like ashes of war, you should do pretty alright. 'course, I still recommend having a different primary other than the Cinquedea, because it's still a dagger, has dagger stance pressure, and dagger reach. I barely get any stance breaks because I was oversold on how good the stance pressure on beast incants was.
I feel like Magma Sorceries Vs. Fire Giant/Monk Incantations will be interesting. Especially since there are 3x as many Fire Giant/Monk Incantations as there are Magma Sorceries and one of the Magma Sorceries is locked behind Rykard's Remembrance and the enemy that drops the Staff that boosts Magma Sorcery damage is immune to Fire Damage so that will be "fun." Anyway, keep up the good work!
Genuinely, the two main spells are so lovely to put on a strength build with a big weapon, Stone of Gurrang and Rock Sling both take a weakness of Unga Bunga builds and solve them. Stone gives you a decent range attack for bosses that create distance, and Sling can give you some extra damage in the windows too slow for big weapons, especially good if you're not using many AoWs, which can be the case for some playstyles. Short swords can sometimes be better than Sling, though that can vary based on the windows you're trying to add punishes to.
Bingo! Beast incantations help pad out melee playstyles so youre not locked into a ranged ash of war or using bows/crossbows for a mid-range. You can chuck out rocks or boulders instead of hitting them. Very simple.
Also agree. I understand why they don’t work for both his content and “speed run” approach, but know I could use this spell while exploring and use red flasks when in imminent danger really reduced my stress. Made my time playing so much more enjoyable.
If you stack a regen spell with the regen tear, maybe you also have the regen talisman there... it's some real nice passive healing for exploration, healing off chip damage and whatnot. Just the numbers on Bestial Vitality are way too low, imo. I get the low requirements but... come on, it's already disadvantaged in that it's the only non-AoE regen, so you can't give it to your ashes too for the extra protection.
Yeah, having passive regen during exploration is huge: you can watch your phone for 1 minute and save a flask... not to mention heal chip damage like mogh's blood flame... also, it works INSANELY well with the "x when at full health" talismans (particularly the defense one) without needing to waste flasks because you took 20 damage and now your set up is useless...
I used these in a run I did based off a character of the story I'm writing, they're fun complements to using a actual weapon, but never the star of the show by themselves
Yeah I feel like they’re perfectly suited for a strength faith build that leans more into strength. Gives you good range attacks and utility to pair with whatever melee weapon you use
I'm so glad you enjoyed these spells! Strength-mage is such a cool build - just a shame the rules of Cast or Pass don't allow you to use that big sexy hammer Gurranq gave you!
I used Beast Incantations (and Crucible Knight) incants for my first playthrough, also using the Ordovis Greatsword and they remain my favorite incantation type
I feel like spells were really meant for utility while getting through areas mote than for bosses. Im currently using an arcane/faith build and stone of gurranq is just perfect for dealing with annoying enemies that get stublocked easily, but any other spells end up falling short on bosses
2 Rock Slings reliably stance breaks the Vulgar Militia around Farum Greatbridge, even on rather low levels, and the third finishes them off. That's how I farmed before the got to the bird. Didn't even get off the horse. Of course, if you do miss, you're dead, so I picked 2 that didn't have terrain in the way. One is right up the road towards the golden seed tree, and the other slightly to the right, coming up with perfect timing after the first dies.
Huh, you liked them better than I expected. Since they're basically a side piece for a melee build I figured you'd struggle to find a use for them, but they're just good. Not great, but it doesn't need to be great when you're using them alongside the five finger dagger.
Gurrank beast claw's on advantage is that you can stagger enemies with the claw part to hit the shockwave part. It could be considered a sidegrade against anastasia or the early NPC (the laters have armor so they tend to power through), but it's also a really late incantation for some reason.
Not that it really matters, but in case you were curious, the correct pronunciation for “cinquedea” is closest to “cheen-kway-DAY-ah.” It’s Italian for “five fingers,” which is about the width of the blade at its base.
With how cheap it is and how low the requirements are, bestial vitality is just nice to cast before a battle It's bigger value comes from using it alongside things like the ritual shield talisman because the effective healing rate is amplified
@@tulokthebarbrarian2033 OH shit I forgot to recognize the labour of editing. The video would literally not be possible without it : O It's the rug that ties the whole room together
My first playthrough was using a Strength/Faith build with primarily beast spells, and pretty much everything you’ve said was my experience, and having a big weapon to finish off stance pressure makes them even better. One thing I will say is that bestial constitution is super useful if you’re bad at the game like I am and don’t want to grind for rot and poison removing items, since it just removes all of them for practically free and is fast enough to use in combat.
Bestial Constitution doesn't remove those though, BC clears frost and bleed. Beastial Vitality is the regen, which CAN be used to counteract poison or rot, but there's also just Flame, Cleanse Me, which is just sitting on the ground in Liurnia and requires the same amount of faith as BV
Bestial vitality is an amazing invasion tool, you have a max of 10 starlight shards each, you basically have infinite fp. It gives you healing overtime for I'm pretty sure a small amount of fp, basically any build has access to it no matter the faith by using the two fingers talisman, and if you're like the one class that isnt you can just pop on a scar or sore seal
@@tulokthebarbrarian2033not really Just like you went STR FTH in this run you would go STR INT for the meteoric ore blade and have the spells as long range options
The thing with NPCs is: Beast Sling is great against them if you're doing a hybrid caster thing, because you can swing your weapon and if the NPC rolls you immediately follow up with Beast Sling and it's almost guaranteed to roll-catch them. It's not that good on its own though.
I used to be a caster fan, but one taste of a Greatsword, and I literally can't fathom that I enjoyed my faith build so much on my first playthrough. Bestial Sling and Quickstep on the Cinquedea makes you feel cool as shit when you're cleaning random enemy camps
Bestial Vitality is really good for walking around and travelling, and caves. Super cheap and can top you up once you reach the boss. It was my go to spell, it even healed me to the point even you can survive with a little hp left cuz of the healing.
The beast spells that don't suck are nice options to have a longside a one handed strength weapon. Or to switch out with if you need range or mob clean up. The claw is also excellent when rune farming mogwyn's palace.
People do say your supposed to use a weapon with spells. This is one form of a spell sword. My form of a spell sword uses only spells. While Tulok takes note of something I do when I play spellsword. There is always at least one spell. Weather you are doing incantations or sorceries. That is your weapon stand in. Its cheap, its quick, its basically your sword. In this video that was beast sling. Other great options are catch flame, carian slicer, and honed bolt. My version of a spellsword uses the spell as my sword. So it plays like any normal weapon build. Just with more thought.
You could've used both sacred seals at once (erdtree and beast seal) to get the benefits of both. If you cast with the erdtree seal while you have the beast seal in your off-hand, you get the bonus from the beast seal AND the scaling of the erdtree seal. This works for ALL staves, seals, and weapons with special passive bonuses.
He had the dagger in off-hand for bonus, and it's the same bonus as the seal. Might have saved him some weight, but probably not enough to increase the bonus from the Blue Dancer charm
My favorite spell is the rejection spell. Just creep up to an enemy by the cliff and send them falling. Or just mess with your opponent while your summons get them
there are only a few spells that ACTUALLY have good stance damage, dragon maw, dragon claw, fortisax's lightning spear and a few others but in gereral yeah spells have negative stance damage.

I can confirm that Gurranq's Beast Claw is the second worst of the Bestial Incantiations (Bestial Constitution is the worst). Bestial Vitality is really good for long expeditions with FP recovery talismans.
It's weird, I get the premise of not using weapons because, duh, but it's also weird when you see there are incants/sorcs that NEED a weapon to use with.
