No matter how great people today think George Clooney is, you'll never see the kind of old-fashioned, smooth, elegant charm given off by Guy Williams. A true man of his times. But then, those were different times.
+E Mack Remember, Guy Williams was born in the same era of Gig Young, Nat King Cole. When you didn't leave the house until you knew you made a good impression on others. Now, nobody gives a damn what others think of their appearance.
Guy Williams was so unbelievably good looking and charismatic long before I had any idea what charisma was. I was about 10 years old when I first saw him as Zorro. I didn't know what sex appeal was back then. All I knew was that I was crazy in love with Guy Williams!
What a truly handsome man he was . I did not see him in lost In Space , but I never forgot him as Zorro . I was seven and he was my first celebrity crush .
I actually think he would have been the perfect replacement for Sean Connery when he retired from James Bond. Great Actor and if this is any example, an extraordinarily likeable man. We miss you, Armand!
Guy Williams is the real Zorro for ever in the heart of all fans around the world ! I respect very much the work of another actors like excellent Antonio Banderas, but Guy Williams still the only one Zorro.😉
There was nobody these days who could have pulled off the Zorro role. Guy Williams was a fantastic human being. Excellent actor, writer, fencer, intellect. Very well rounded human being as well as being a handsome man. he was not just about looks but intellect as well.
Wow, like all he had to do is smile and look into the camera..."Your Hired!"... Possibly the best looking male actor to ever grace the silver screen and standing 6 foot 3 inches tall.
This screen test shows Mr. Williams takes Direction easily and with grace. Shows his ready humor. He repeats Every name immediately to the people off camera, says "Hello" showing that he will be Polite to camera and lighting people! He speaks to them, looks at them! Showing the all important cameraman that he will work well with him! Mr. Williams did not just nod at the cameraman and dismiss hum. This is how Real film people get an idea of how the whole crew, actors and crew will work together. It's an important process and Guy aced it.
i agree but i think his confidence in this screen test comes from the fact the producers of lost in space picked guy already as being perfect for the role and guy knew this
błysk w oku, "szarm, szyk", wielki wdzięk, momentami coś nawet niemal kobiecego, nie tracąc nic z męskości. Ciepłe oczy ,głęboki głos i ten cudowny śmiech .. Jedyny ,niepowtarzalny Zorro ..
Guy Williams, such a charmer! I didn't know he smoked, but just about everyone did in the 1960's. It could be because this is in black and white, but he looks like he has grey hair on both sides of his head.
He was perfect in the role as Professor John Robinson in Lost In Space from 1965 to 1968, as well as the lead in Walt Disney's Zorro for 2 years earlier, from 1959 to 1961. Guy was pronounced deceased on April 30th, 1989 at age 65 years. The 25th anniversary this year, 2014, commemorates the 25th anniversary of his sad but sudden passing from a brain anuerysm /blood clot He is still deeply missed but fondly remembered by the many fans of Lost in Space and Zorro worldwide.
Guy Williams was already a big star with ZORRO at the time of this test, so that this was more a formality than them giving him a dire rundown of his character or an audition for the part. It was just to see him on camera, his manner, his suave, his cool.
Wow! Guy Williams, though I've seen some of his old movies and shows, I'm afraid I don't know much about him. But as you can see however, he's definitely old school edicate and charm. And I'll venture to say he had the ladies crazy for him. January 14, 1924 - April 30, 1989 (65 yrs.) R.I.P. Guy.
He reminds me a lot of Denzel Washington, the quizzical appealing smile and use of his eyebrows, the charm, even the quality and accent of his voice - the way he says his Rs. "You know when I started? . . . I might be old enough." That could be Denzel!
Guy was a remarkable man. 6 ft 4 Male Model. Intellectual (qualified Cost Accountant), photogenic and moved with grace. All the attributes of Errol Flynn and similarly like Flynn did not realize his full potential. In Flynn's case it was De Booze with Williams it is perhaps he never came across a director who could take him over the bridge. Look at what Leone did with Clint Eastwood...perhaps Guy needed a Sergio to give his career a boost.
I love the 'I've just said something terribly funny' sudden laugh cue. Guy handles it adeptly by asking what it was invoking actual laughter from Irwin and crew. As most screen tests go, the people he is referring to stage right, stage left are not there. It's to show the director Guy's 3/4 shots and his ability to 'play to' air, an essential skill in the actor's toolbox. All the questions are part of the test, what's Zorro about, etc. Thanks for posting. Great stuff.
Guy Williams was a man of real style and class. Loved him as Doctor John Robinson in Lost In Space. Lost In Space was one of my favorite shows as a kid.
my mom really liked guy williams..she grew up watching him on tv..,she liked zorro and lost in space..she now watches the reruns of lost in space on the hd converter she has at home..she likes all the characters on the show...
I wonder how an actor so good, pleasant and brilliant, very similar in setting to Errol Flynn ( also the moustaches were similar) hadn't a worldwide success more extensive and durable.
WHAT A REAL REAL NICE GUY HE WAS IN REAL LIFE AND ONE GREAT GREAT ACTOR ZORRO, LOST IN SPACE, ECT. THIS IS ONE GREAT INTERVIEW I LOVE IT RIP GUY WILLIAM'S.
A true gentleman and fine actor.....proof positive that producers and casting agents in Hollywood could be quite stupid and wrong in judging actors who were in what they deemed "frivolous" TV shows. Guy should have had a long and successful career in Hollywood and it's the world's loss that he didn't. I always thought he would have been great in a crime drama, perhaps even Hawaii 5-0 as Steve McGarrett....with Mark Goddard as Danno. How about that, fans?
I am one of the few people that enjoyed both versions of Lost In Space, the serious science fiction of the first year and the farce of the last two years. The only regret I have is that Guy Williams never saw the success that he deserved. He should have been considered for James Bond, charming, intelligent and relaxed he would have been perfect. A nice guy he deserved all the success he had, but deserved more.
What a handsome, well spoken genteel gentleman; what a handsome face and personality. Love him in Zorro! . SO tragic he died of a brain aneurysm SO young, tragic...Kim
Had more promise than almost any actor in the last 50 years. I remember seeing him in a couple of movies and then Lost in Space. Heroic, charming and intelligent. A Great Actor and a good guy. We are the losers from his unfufilled promise, not him. What a great guy! And one of the guys too.
''Only You, Dick Daring! or How to Write One Television Script and Make $50,000,000" is a novel by Merle Miller that satirically attacks network television. That explains Allen's feigned admonishment at the end of this video.
Hi! I've worked in film industry here. Knew the owner of Century Studios in Dallas. This is a pretty common way to screen test already established film people, who might be offended by script reading,or when there Is no script yet and they are simply trying to see who might work out. Mr. Williams wouldn't have been offended,I am sure! They would also do ' tests' with actors just walking around in a room together to see how they looked together! They didn't use to put Danny Devito shorties in with really tall actorsa. Tried to get same height as only two semi stationary camera were used in most TV shows! Shoulder mounted SteadiCams didn't exist!
A screen test can turn into pretty much anything really. In these, the director or whoever it is I'm thinking is checking his profile, how he talks, reacts.. and how it all looks on camera which is the purpose. Guy on the hand only answers the question, doesn't add anything, At any rate, he was cast, and the legend lives on!!
Director says: 'I just made a Great Joke.' GUY [Drop Dead Serious]: "oh WHAT WAS IT?" 🤣😄😅 He's a milestone memory from my youth. I Loved "LOST IN SPACE" in the '70s as a kid and Still to this day

He was absolutely gorgeous and so charming. Loved him as Zorro and Prof. Robinson. They don't make men like this anymore. Certainly not George Clooney who is a very pale, watery comparison.
Actually, it's true. June Lockhart was on a local talk show back in the 70s with surviving cast members of Lost In Space. She mentioned Guy was one if the few men to test jet packs. It would seem that he was quite the adventurer, even beyond sailing
+David Smith I stand by my comment. Flying with a jet pack on would take a lot of training and be extremely dangerous. Celebrities tell a lot of stories, not all are true. I would think if Guy Williams had flown with a jet pack some photos or film would have survived; I've never seen anything.
Even if photos of Guy Williams in a jet pack may not be easily available, I think Guy Williams had the kind of clout that would have given him the opportunity to fly a jet pack. Look at the celebrities today that want to go into space .Besides, in Guy's day, a lot of photos, reference and other items get lost thrown away, simply because no one saw what importance they would be in the future.
GUY WILLIAMS (déf): Bon-vivant au charme latin d'origine italienne, tour à tour citoyen américain & argentin, il portait clairement le costume hidalgo à merveille, ce que l'on peut remarquer entre-autre, dans son émoi face à "Anna Maria" lorsqu'il feint 2 l'embrasser (NB:il porte à gauche!). almost the perfect leading man....tall, lean, well spoken, great smile and sense of humour...died too soon.
No matter how great people today think George Clooney is, you'll never see the kind of old-fashioned, smooth, elegant charm given off by Guy Williams. A true man of his times. But then, those were different times.
+David Smith George Clooney can't hold a candle to this handsome man. Good Lord!!!
+E Mack Remember, Guy Williams was born in the same era of Gig Young, Nat King Cole. When you didn't leave the house until you knew you made a good impression on others. Now, nobody gives a damn what others think of their appearance.
zorro
That from a time when men were men and women were women and none of this "self identifying" bull shit existed.
Heru- deshet THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!
Guy Williams was so unbelievably good looking and charismatic long before I had any idea what charisma was. I was about 10 years old when I first saw him as Zorro. I didn't know what sex appeal was back then. All I knew was that I was crazy in love with Guy Williams!
He had a million dollar smile. Makes me melt to this day.
Anna-Laura Hocker .
GOOD LOOKING MAN
Easily see him as a pitch man for commercials of the day-
Just a good bloke, rare in Hollywood at that time
What a truly handsome man he was .
He is so charming
Now Guy Williams is a true CLASSIC MAN!! Wow! An awesome actor! Rest in Peace "John Robinson". You are sorely missed...
He was a incredibly handsome man. With a mustache, he was out-of-this world handsome.
*an incredibly
the first and last zorro, that is for me the real zorro!
Maickel H the best Zorro
Delon was good too.
Well, that's my opinion but i like both of them.
Guy Williams is the real Zorro for ever in the heart of all fans around the world ! I respect very much the work of another actors like excellent Antonio Banderas, but Guy Williams still the only one Zorro.😉
@@Scorpius1 correct!!!!🤗🇬🇧
He seems to actually be like the character he played. One of my favorite
shows growing up. I watched the reruns religiously.
There was nobody these days who could have pulled off the Zorro role. Guy Williams was a fantastic human being. Excellent actor, writer, fencer, intellect. Very well rounded human being as well as being a handsome man. he was not just about looks but intellect as well.
*those days
I loved him as "Dr. John Robinson!" So smart, handsome!
Wow, like all he had to do is smile and look into the camera..."Your Hired!"...

He certainly did. I thought the same thing.
i agree but i think his confidence in this screen test comes from the fact the producers of lost in space picked guy already as being perfect for the role and guy knew this
The original and the best Zorro. Brings back great childhood memories.
Guy went to Argentina to retire and was treated like a king there because of the Zorro role.
Good for him!!
The Biographics Real Zoro is why I'm here, they mentioned his Role of Zoro the Fox.
In Argentina we have been watching El Zorro almost non-stop since 1968 💕
¡Totally true! Happens that Diego de la Vega/Zorro represented our spanish roots.
Es así ,el pueblo Argentino lo amo,aún respiramos El Zorro " aquí lo veía mi abuelo,mi padre,yo y ahora mis hijos, nunca morirá...
Guy Williams (aka Armand Catalano) - grossly underrated actor.
He was a great father figure strong and disciplined but gentle and caring shame he died so youngD:
Good grief. What a handsome man!!! Italians, oh boy!

Wow was he good looking!!!!
RIP Guy and thanks for entertaining us, you left us too soon.
Guy Williams, just no words to describe such great character. And there will never be one like him. He will be missed.
Guy Williams, such a charmer! I didn't know he smoked, but just about everyone did in the 1960's. It could be because this is in black and white, but he looks like he has grey hair on both sides of his head.
He dyed it for the audition
He was perfect in the role as Professor John Robinson in Lost In Space
from 1965 to 1968, as well as the lead in Walt Disney's Zorro for
2 years earlier, from 1959 to 1961.
Guy was pronounced deceased on April 30th, 1989 at age 65 years.
The 25th anniversary this year, 2014, commemorates the 25th

He is still deeply missed but fondly remembered by the many fans of
Lost in Space and Zorro worldwide.
mickfizz1 I
Zorro started to air in October 1957
And bonanza TV show
I read recently that Guy had brain cancer before dying. Ironically, it was most likely the cigarettes were partly the cause.
He's wonderful! Sexy, confident. Real teeth! (ha ha)
Guy Williams was already a big star with ZORRO at the time of this test, so that this was more a formality than them giving him a dire rundown of his character or an audition for the part. It was just to see him on camera, his manner, his suave, his cool.

I love this, Guy was (and I suppose in many ways, still is) a hero of mine growing up. Thanks for posting this.
Happy 88th Birthday, Armando Catalano! You will always live in my heart! I love you!
A very handsome and likable man with great stage presence
He reminds me a lot of Denzel Washington, the quizzical appealing smile and use of his eyebrows, the charm, even the quality and accent of his voice - the way he says his Rs. "You know when I started? . . . I might be old enough." That could be Denzel!
Guy Williams o melhor zorro de todos os tempos.o eterno prof.John Robinson de lost in Space. Não se faz mais heróis como ele.saudades
He was the definite Zorro ( sorry Tyrone and Antonio) and he was great as Will Cartwright on Bonanza.
This is a painful screen test for Guy but he handles it and comes across as a throughly nice guy, truly professional.
love the no guilt moment when lighting up his smoke------god, I miss those days!!
I love the 'I've just said something terribly funny' sudden laugh cue. Guy handles it adeptly by asking what it was invoking actual laughter from Irwin and crew.

Oh, thank you for the insight, that's fascinating
Loved Guy Williams. Don't forget Zorro
Such a classic handsome man. When he called Maureen Robinson "darling" on Lost In Space, it made me weak in the knees! 🤣
Guy Williams was a man of real style and class. Loved him as Doctor John Robinson in Lost In Space. Lost In Space was one of my favorite shows as a kid.
when I was a kid, I absolutely loved the zorro series
They don't make men like this anymore.
Yes.
You got that right 👌
Irwin Allen is really helping Guy out here in a big way. He likes him straight off and wants a successful and relaxed interview..
Yeah, he was already telling him about starting next week and giving him the script
Yep. That's more like it. Although Clooney wishes he was half as handsome and devanaire as Williams. No comparison possible.
so true

This guy seems pretty humble .
The best zorro in the world, i always watched his series.
I fell in love with Guy when he was on Bonanza as Will Cartwright
He was a handsome guy alright.
Great casting for the part of the father.
I always wondered what Guy looked like without the mustache. He looked like he could have been a leading man in the movies!
O danado era muito lindo viu!!!!!! Um gala😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 gostava do don diego de la vega cada roupa !!!!!!! Mais era muito lindo dd novo!!!!! 😃😃😃

Guy Williams was wonderful in that part - especially in the first season.
His interview was on key brilliant.

Talent. Charisma. Class act. Thanks Guy!
Grande Grande Armando!!!! mi ídolo juvenil y hasta ahora no superad!!! siempre estas en mi corazón!!!
Guy was also an adventurer. June Lockhart once mentioned that Guy was one of the first men to go up in a jet pack.
+David Smith I don't believe that's true. Guy did however like to drive his sportscar very fast up in the Hollywood Hills.
