I had similar condtion as Matt Gourley, and my aunt who was an expert doctor, asked me to change my shoes. I started using comfortable shoes and the condition was fixed. The problem was with my nerves in the foot were getting pressed all day while I wore the shoes and at night the nerves started relaxing with pulses. The solutions is worth trying.
For me the cause was slipped discs. Basically the discs if they're slipped/bulging can limit/block blood flow to your legs, leading to that pins-and-needles feeling similar to when your legs are falling asleep. My solution was just to fix my posture and stay away from lifting/moving heavy objects. Usually I'd know if my back was getting out-of-whack merely by my RLS acting up and I knew I was doing something to aggravate it.
I love Conan's dedication to the idea of having various body parts of his removed. Not long ago he was talking about having his pelvis removed, he's talked about having his skull removed, Conan really just wants to be parts
My partner had restless legs. His was due to malabsorption of magnesium as a result of undiagnosed Crohn's disease. When he got better, the restless legs mostly went away. Back in the day, his restless legs drove me MAD when I had a newborn. Would just be drifting off to sleep and Bojangles would visit and wake me up.
The right shoulder blade “itch” is probably from wearing a guitar while standing. I got the same thing, it really gets bad when I am working with both hands while standing.
HEY MATT, restless leg is a syndrome that COULD be caused by iron deficiency or a bad kidney. A lot of the times it's just idiopathic (came out of nowhere for no reason). Medications like pramipexole are your typical first line treatments.
Just move your leg, that's what RLS is all about anyway. Annoying but prescriptions will invariably sink your liver and kidneys and cause a bunch of other side effects.
For me, walking for few minutes helps sometimes. but not always. when it gets bad, its just horrible for me. Maybe I should get my kidneys and iron checked out. thanks for your comment.
The future owners of Sona’s parents house will have quite a creepy surprise if they ever go around digging around in the back yard and find dozens of old baby dolls!
Hey Conan and Sona, Aussie doctor and big fan here; 'neurological' doesn't equal non-diagnosable nor does it mean psychogenic/functional. It means a disorder orginates from the central or peripheral nervous systems. For example, a stroke is a neurological disorder.

Restless leg feels like a static charge that builds up in the legs and you have to move to stretch them out to get rid of it, then it builds up every few seconds, fun.
2:00 I get that too sometimes, it's really annoying. Best way I've found is to really tense them up and then relax, you can end up getting a bad cramp tho, I think it's common in people who get cramps a lot
My mom has restless leg syndrome all her life and what helps is having some potassium before bed. So a banana, dates, or just straight up potassium pills. But careful, shouldn't have too much potassium on a daily basis. She also has this thing with if someone touches her shoulder, whether it be a gentle tap or a hard grab, she feels like 'a million ants crawling down her shoulder.' I've seen her shutter at a simple touch on the shoulder.
My grandma always said mustard helped with restless leg. Shed eat a spoonful and itd calm it down. Literally just talked about this to my mom yesterday this is funny timing.
I'm not a medical doctor, but I've had this exact symptom before (among other nerve-related discomforts) that you have Matt. The pins and needles may be caused by tightness in low back, usually from excessive sitting and poor posture, which can cause pressure on the nerves innervating to the spine. It could be related to a spine disc too (these can wear out with age), but a neurologist may have already given you an EMG, and found nothing, which might suggest muscle tightness instead. There are physical therapy exercises for the low back/hip (e.g., pelvic bridges) and stretches (e.g., pigeon pose) you can do daily to try to ameliorate the symptoms. Magnesium can also help relax muscles if you're experiencing spasms. Certain diets (e.g., Keto) can increase the risk of developing restless leg syndrome, too. Also, an EMG showing nothing doesn't mean something isn't wrong. My mom (mid-50s) had an EMG that showed nothing, despite having peripheral nephropathy symptoms. She had years of trying to get a proper diagnosis, before the issue was pinpointed to C4-C5 in the spine, and surgery relieved her of these symptoms. My EMG also showed nothing, but I have had peripheral nephropathy for 2 years. I used to have restless leg syndrome too, but that went away after maybe 6 months or so. I think from changing from Keto diet, regular PT exercises, and hydration were factors. Also cutting coffee and less alcohol. Best of luck, love the show!
Gorelys problem is easy to fix. 1. Iron supplementation. It's usually caused by an iron deficiency, rare in men, but still. 2. He needs to exercise his legs. Squats, lunges, leg extensions, hamstring curls. This is what cured mine, if your leg muscles have been adequately stimulated, they are never sore or restless. You sleep like a baby, and your legs WANT to be still.
