Why do you have to "argue with a meat eater?"...why cant you just let others eat what their bodies need to be healthy & fit?
Keep in mind YOUR ancestors ate MEAT...not only did they eat meat they survived on meat allowing you to be born.
Live and let live...dont tread on someones diet.

Being a vegan was the furthest thing from my mind until UA-cam recommended Plant Chompers to me. Those videos convinced me that my health depended on reducing animal foods and increasing plant foods. At some point, UA-cam recommended Earthling Ed. Every college student Ed debated brought up all the same objections that I had used in the past to dismiss veganism. I kept saying after each of these arguments, "Now, what are you going to say at that, Ed?" His methodical deconstruction of each of these, hearing his arguments over and over again with different students, finally convinced me to go vegan.

Funny. I was doing keto for a few years and was pretty happy with the diet and the results. Never was a huge meat eater but ate it about 3-5 times per week for most of my life. I was never anti-vegan specifically. Never gave vegans much thought one way or another. But I had been regularly consuming content like Dr. Berg, Sten Ekberg, Nina Teichoiz and that sort for a few years while going on keto. So my views reflected theirs mostly, though I always retained a moderate degree of unsureness about some aspects, i.e., being marginally open to other arguments at least.
Then some random commenter under some video I was viewing (maybe a Teichoiz video?) cited Plant Chompers about something related to the topic being discussed. Which I looked up out of curiosity and consumed some of his content. And then it was off to the races for me. Dropped keto soon thereafter, and started down the path of plant-based. The pieces just began to fit better and more cohesively for me on every level; environment, health, financial, ethics, etc.

    • @jansmith3158

you should look up these former sick vegans that went back to eating meat after years of vegan diet
channels: Earther Academy (he is a doctor who was vegan for 15 years became sicker and sicker swtiched to carnviore), Steak and butter gal (she was a vegan for 6 years, got sick on the vegan diet and switched to carnivore), Nutrtion with judy (12 years got sicker and sicker and ended up with an eating disorder on vegan diet then switched and healed on carnvore), Dr Hamilton (he was a vegan & was in vegan documentaries now feels that the vegan studies where lies and has swtiched back to eating meat).
Meat heals the body. Your ancestors survived eating meat so you could be born. Think about that.
IS veganism a CULT?? ask this question daily.

Yes. When I went vegan in 1997, no one knew what veganism was, when I said I was vegan. No one. Then I'd tell them and they'd say, "But you eat eggs, right?" This was after I'd anyway said that I don't eat any animal products, etc. Then they'd ask if I ate some other animal product, it was just so foreign of an idea to even think about. But it's been years now, that everyone has known what it was, when I mention it. Slowly but surely, we're getting there. They have to know what it is first (usually), before making the actual change.

I haven’t been sick since 2015, during the pandemic I ran out of deodorant and realized I have no BO. Even after training! So, I stopped using even the natural ones. I asked around to sniff test me and I was clean smelling without deodorant! My skin is clear too I rarely break out. I wish I’d started even younger, I had terrible periods and I’m sure it was dairy related as I was vegetarian before and eat far too many dairy products. I never had beyond burger, I no longer buy packaged foods either. Your taste buds change. I also at the same weight without dieting. I eat full plates too. I’ve been living a vegan lifestyle for 20 years now. I’m getting really tired of the word vegan being equated with a silly diet.
A big part of the problem is that people seemingly don’t understand what vegan means or what the reasoning for adopting a vegan lifestyle and then they end up arguing against something they’d actually prefer. Ie. less animal cruelty, less water pollution, less air pollution, less disease and suffering. These are things everyone wants but they end up ridiculing the idea and fighting against it.

The thing that changed me to eat more plant food wasn't after seeing Earthlings etc it was because after watching Seaspsiracy and Twin experiment they were able to connect my food to human slavery. As a black person this hits more than anything.
For me connecting my food to human issues was the way it was going to get me. Like when I found out about Blood diamonds I immediately am repulsed if people show off diamond engagement rings.
I think for some who grew up in certain places we are comfortable killing our own animals and we don't overfish or overconsume it is very hard to switch but when you connect our food to human suffering? then yes you got me! I don't even eat avocados as much due to the war with them.

I also think de-politicizing veganism is necessary in some ways too. The left tends to be more accepting of veganism, but I've met plenty of liberals who hate on vegans just as much as conservatives. However, I live and have lived my entire life in more conservative areas and I dont think these people are evil or bad. Many are moderate and not as extreme as the left likes to think and vice versa. Media divides us and polarizes us more than anything i think because when you have actual conversations with people, we have more in common than we often think, we just have different perspectives on an issue but more often then not we are trying to solve the same problem or just have different takes on an issue. And people get defensive when it comes to their beliefs and lifestyles and i have found the best way is to approach the issue of veganism with compassion and understanding and meet them where they're at. I think if more moderates & right leaning people are exposed to a vegan or plant based lifestyle they'll be more open to exploring it and respecting it when they see people thriving on the lifestyle. I think the extremes on both political parties are not good and neither are too friendly towards vegans. I have been vegan for 6 years, i am married to a non vegan who is open to the lifestyle since i have shared with her my recipes and explained how the lifestyle isnt as difficult as people make it out to be. My family is conservative to moderate and i always happily share my food with them during holidays, they have become quite accomodating too and make certain shared dishes vegan and they have been surprised how its not as inconvenient as they believed and they usually enjoy the meals i prepare. I hope that more people will go vegan regardless of political affiliation and it will become more widely accepted and not just considered a "woke" thing.

vegans absolutely do do advocacy in non-food institutions of animals use. dont you ever see the news stories of vegans storming horse racing track etc?
again they use lowest-common-denomiator tactics for these events so I don't hold it as that high of value. it's super easy to recruit dumb easily emotionally manipulated people like that type of people who go to horse races, but why target these people? the use of animals in circus, zoos, races isn't a priority in terms of numbers but it holds symbolic significance to our relationship to animals. unfortunately a lot of the tactics vegans use play into that same narative of thinking of animals as cute, innocent playthings to try bridge an emotional gap. I think we need to move beyond this.

"Man, naturally, should be a vegetarian, because the whole body is made for vegetarian food. Even scientists concede to the fact that the whole structure of the human body shows that man should not be a non-vegetarian. Man comes from the monkeys. Monkeys are vegetarians, absolute vegetarians. If Darwin is true then man should be a vegetarian.
Now there are ways to judge whether a certain species of animal is vegetarian or non-vegetarian: it depends on the intestine, the length of the intestine. Non-vegetarian animals have a very small intestine. Tigers, lions - they have a very small intestine, because meat is already a digested food. It does not need a long intestine to digest it. The work of digestion has been done by the animal. Now you are eating the animal’s meat. It is already digested - no long intestine is needed. Man has one of the longest intestines: that means man is a vegetarian. A long digestion is needed, and much excreta will be there which has to be thrown out.
If man is not a non-vegetarian and he goes on eating meat, the body is burdened. In the East, all the great meditators - Buddha, Mahavir - have emphasized the fact. Not because of any concept of nonviolence - that is a secondary thing - but because if you really want to move in deep meditation your body needs to be weightless, natural, flowing. Your body needs to be unloaded; and a non-vegetarian’s body is very loaded.
Just watch what happens when you eat meat: when you kill an animal what happens to the animal when he is killed? Of course, nobody wants to be killed. Life wants to prolong itself; the animal is not dying willingly. If somebody kills you, you will not die willingly. If a lion jumps on you and kills you, what will happen to your mind? The same happens when you kill a lion. Agony, fear, death, anguish, anxiety, anger, violence, sadness - all these things happen to the animal. All over his body violence, anguish, agony spreads. The whole body becomes full of toxins, poisons. All the body glands release poisons because the animal is dying very unwillingly. And then you eat the meat; that meat carries all the poisons that the animal has released. The whole energy is poisonous. Then those poisons are carried in your body.
That meat which you are eating belonged to an animal body. It had a specific purpose there. A specific type of consciousness existed in the animal’s body. You are on a higher plane than the animal’s consciousness, and when you eat the animal’s meat your body goes to the lowest plane, to the lower plane of the animal. Then there exists a gap between your consciousness and your body, and a tension arises and anxiety arises.
One should eat things which are natural, natural for you. Fruits, nuts, vegetables - eat as much as you can. The beauty is that you cannot eat more of these things than is needed. Whatsoever is natural always gives you a satisfaction, because it satiates your body, saturates you. You feel fulfilled. If some thing is unnatural it never gives you a feeling of fulfillment. Go on eating ice cream: you never feel that you are satiated. In fact the more you eat, the more you feel like eating. It is not a food. Your mind is being tricked. Now you are not eating according to the body need; you are eating just to taste it. The tongue has become the controller.
The tongue should not be the controller. It does not know anything about the stomach. It does not know anything about the body. The tongue has a specific purpose to fulfill: to taste food. Naturally, the tongue has to judge, that is the only thing, which food is for the body, for my body and which food is not for my body. It is just a watchman on the door; it is not the master, and if the watchman on the door becomes the master, then everything will be confused.
Now advertisers know well that the tongue can be tricked, the nose can be tricked. And they are not the masters. You may not be aware: much food research goes on in the world, and they say if your nose is closed completely, and your eyes closed, and then you are given an onion to eat, you cannot tell what you are eating. You cannot tell onion from apple if the nose is closed completely because half of the taste comes from the smell, is decided by the nose, and half is decided by the tongue. These two have become the controllers. Now they know: whether ice cream is nutritious or not is not the point. It can carry a flavor, it can carry some chemicals which fulfill the tongue but are not needed for the body.
Man is confused, more confused than buffaloes. You cannot convince buffaloes to eat ice cream. Try!
A natural food...and when I say natural I mean that which your body needs. The need of a tiger is different; he has to be very violent. If you eat the meat of a tiger you will be violent, but where will your violence be expressed? You have to live in human society, not in a jungle. Then you will have to suppress the violence. Then a vicious circle starts.
When you suppress violence, what happens? When you feel angry, violent, a certain poisonous energy is released, because that poison creates a situation where you can be really violent and kill somebody. The energy moves towards your hands; the energy moves towards your teeth. These are the two places from where animals become violent. Man is part of the animal kingdom.
When you are angry, energy is released - it comes to the hands and to the teeth, to the jaw - but you live in a human society and it is not always profitable to be angry. You live in a civilized world and you cannot behave like an animal. If you behave like an animal, you will have to pay too much for it - and you are not ready to pay that much. Then what do you do? You suppress the anger in the hand; you suppress the anger in your teeth - you go on smiling a false smile, and your teeth go on accumulating anger.
I have rarely come to see people with a natural jaw. It is not natural - blocked, stiff - because there is too much anger. If you press the jaw of a person, the anger can be released. Hands become ugly. They lose grace, they lose flexibility, because too much anger is suppressed there. People who have been working on deep massage, they have come to know that when you touch the hands deeply, massage the hands, the person starts becoming angry. There is no reason. You are massaging the man and suddenly he starts feeling angry. If you press the jaw, persons become angry again. They carry accumulated anger. These are the impurities in the body: they have to be released. If you don’t release them the body will remain heavy."

I'm not sure veganism is a particularly successful project if by that we mean the number of people who are "vegans", which remains stubbornly very low. But the broader debate has been gaining ground - I believe that the core idea that we should have moral concern for other sentient species has taken solid root. It is no longer odd to think this and significant progress has been made both in general philosophical terms as well as hard legislative reform.
However, if current strategies are failing to encourage general agreement with veganism and doing little to change public attitudes, a new strategy is needed. The way I see it, far too much weight is being placed on the tactic of complete individual conversion to veganism. Too often, success is measured by the number of people becoming vegan, yet so far at least very few people do this and the vast majority reject the idea out of hand. Worse, many vegans eventully abandon their veganism.
My suggestion then is to focus instead on encouraging a more positive community attitude to veganism. That is, the aim of vegan advocacy should not be converting people to veganism (with often doubtful results) but rather promoting a more positive public attitude to how we regard and treat other animals. How this could be done is open to debate, but I would take the tack of providing an educative and guiding role more than anything else. For example, one could conduct street advocacy where people can learn more, ask questions and even contribute their own perspectives without being judged. I think Ed does a very good job of this klind of advocacy.

Veganism remains stubbornly low because the human species is the cruellest animal by nature. They are so far removed from the rest of the natural world that they've turned their backs on what's good for them. They're the only species who purposefully eat and poison themselves with too much food and chemicals to the point of disability. Then they call themselves the superior species, but in reality most are too lazy or ignorant to look outward beyond their own existence.I live in hope that more will go vegan but I have barely any faith in the human species.

I don’t love the word “argument”. Why does it always have to be an “argument”? Well, it doesn’t…that’s why we have (and love) Ed.💯
I tend (or try) and avoid these “arguments” or discussions. Letting people do or say whatever they’d like to get off their chest (sometimes it’s A LOT) about MY choices for ME. I need to pick up Ed’s book, for what I assume is some acceptable and intelligent “ammo” when needed. Awesome stuff!☮️&💟

As far as I am concerned 1980-2000 was the ‘’golden era’’ for Veganism, that was a time when the movement was grassroots networking and collective activism, we were strong and built what has come since. These days I see ‘celebrity’ UA-cam activity/influencers taking over direct real life social activism, we are not connected in real life as we used to be, and I think that is weaker for the movement. ✊🏽🌻🌎

The point about headlines is crucial even here on YT, Ed does some of the most solid content work in the movement still sometimes the headline's irony might fall to that issue and also contribute to positive yt stats towards meat consumption, at the same time it probably turns up the video's algorithm as long as meat consumers have user's majority... I don't know, it's kinda complex no matter how you do it but still the very important process of delivering info to the busy working class might be obstructed by ironic headlines.

I was brought up eating meat but told my grandmother (who raised me) that when I grew up I wouldn’t eat meat. She had insisted that I must learn to cook it but after seeing her gutting rabbits and ducks and hens for years ( and being expected to pluck chickens myself) I decided I simply couldn’t do it. I didn’t have much choice about being a vegetarian as a child in the 1960s and early 1970s but when I grew up I did become a vegetarian and it was bloody hard work in those days but I stuck to it for 27 years. Then I became a vegan 18 years ago and I’ve no intention of going back to my childhood menu thank you. And as for health I was a horribly sickly kid, plagued with colds, anaemia and chilblains so my meat stuffed diet didn’t have a positive effect on me! In later years after I became a vegetarian and then a vegan I had the stamina of an ox and could work 70 to 100 hours a week (that’s whole days followed by waking nights) as a care worker whilst my colleagues less than half my age (none of them vegetarians or vegans) were on the point of collapse after doing one extra shift a week. So I don’t think my diet has exactly done me any harm but then it isn’t for my benefit that I stopped eating meat. It’s for the benefit of non human species. I’m well aware that most people don’t really care that much about animals or would find it difficult to become vegan or vegetarian but I would just say to you ‘okay carry on. But can you not just cut down a bit or insist on seeing how the animals are reared and killed and then call for higher welfare standards where it’s necessary? And in intensive farming it is necessary. Only a sadist and a moron could disagree.

I eat violet leaves, dandelion greens, rose hips, bastard cabbage, purple dead nettle, sassafras leaves, hedge bedstraw and mock strawberry. That’s pretty natural. I recognize it definitely isn’t sufficient as the only source for everyone but the more diverse your diet the more resilient you are to disease. Before going vegan I don’t think I ever ate flaxseeds, squash or lentils.
