He looks like a curious character. like he's just wobbling around trying to discover what this world is all about. Maybe that could lead to some design decisions like... Open world... Self Discovery Story...
HOW DID YOU TELL ME THE WHOLE F****** STORY WITH HIS JUST CHARACTER DESIGN??? GOOD JOB!
*open world is always good* Well except when people screw it up.
I can already imagine the potential feels that could be implemented with this concept... say there's mostly the same styled robots/machine characters, but very rarely you might stumble upon an organic creature who might very generally hint towards lore, or doing errands for a run down rusty robo-friend for the wholesomeness
@@mrbluelynxchannel5207 did you just reply to yourself saying good job?
@@semisixx4967 Wdym?
Two episodes in and this is already becoming one of my favorite devlogs. This is looking amazing already!
Thanks so much dude 😁
This is very i inspiring, this is stuff ive always wanted to learn, look forward to see thr progress!
hey man i love your aseprite tutorials
same
@@actuallyAdonis :)
Yeah, you got a great flow. I think the genre you've chosen is really good for showing off things you're making at the same time. Great music and editing!
I gotta start doing my own devlogs 😅
@@stealcase wanna be friends?
Hey just wanted to say I was initially sceptical about the character design but your animation skills gave him so much life and charm that all my concerns flew out the window the first time I saw him run around. Well done!
Thank you so much! Animation can really turn anything around, though I will be doing an update to the character model at some point, maybe when I can get a real 3D artist on board!
@@RobertThomsonDev How would one get in touch with you? I really enjoyed your ideas! Let me know if you need any help :)
@@RobertThomsonDev you should add a midair dive!
@@ultragamerpro6903 Yes you've said that 3 times now haha
@@RobertThomsonDev its just that it adds a lot of movement options.
I am screaming again. THE CROUCH WALK. I can't handle the cuteeeeee. Also, I LOVE the story you created!
he SQUIMCH
When he said that the drawings were not final I expected great drawings. Was not disappointed. You're a great artist!
Thanks so much!
Potential Plot Twist: He is the evil but his memory is wiped
Potential Side Quest: He is lonely so he must search the world for parts to build himself a friend
I like both of them
if he'll add that plot twist i dont think it will be a plot twist anymore lmao
The “was evil but lost memory” trope is like the most common trope for any anthropomorphized robot in gaming. It’s bastion from overwatch
We were bad, but now were good
The thing about null looking like the 'evil overlord guy' and that everyone is afraid of him seems really funny. But one thing that might lend that to would be maybe null was a secret 'lesser overlord' that no one knew about. And he was actually the evilest one despite his cute appearance but because he lost all of his memory and powers he doesn't remember any of it. That could also possibly lead to the 'lesser overlords 'saying things like "wait I know you.." or "c'mon you're on our side remember" because you were the most powerful of any of them so there kinda afraid of you. IDK just an idea.
I thought he was the evil one that just forgot about it
@@nesverdengam thats probably the twist
at first when i heard him explaining the story i was expecting the other robots to still be good and they too think null is the old evil overlord and they are programmed to stop the overlord so they try destroying null even though he is not evil.
and that as null went through different areas he would be proving that he is not evil by helping people out and stuff
Trust me you will have a good career. Good luck!
You should add speed lines when you are rolling very fast
Your animation skills immediately give your work so much life, crazy that the second episode of the devlog has your game looking this fun already. Loving it!
As an animator both in 3D and 2D, and also a programmer. I absolutely love the simplicity and appeal of your character and adore the animation. Very cute. Keep going it looks great!
I absolutely love the crouch walking animation, it's so cute!
Love the charming animations, reminds me of the earlier lego games with no dialogue. It would be cool if you could make the game w/o dialogue and use animations to convey the story.
This would be really cool especially with the element he added that they can’t really comprehend the main character so they show their general emotions with movement and body language
That climbing system you just built is brilliant. Holy shit.
Thanks man!!
Love how this project is shaping up, the character controls are so polished! I wish I had a demo to just play around with the little robot--just watching him bounce around is so satisfying. Here's some advice: definitely make combat revolve around platforming, Mario-style. I could totally see the nine guardians being Shadow of the Colossus sized monsters that you have to work your way up and through (kinda like Breath of the Wild), and I also feel like this fits well with the robot character designs since they could naturally have built-in ledges (corrugated physical textures). Also if the guardians are REALLY huge, they could even be like re-iterated versions of the battle tower (for example, you start in their foot and have to fight/parkour your way up to their head to fight the virus infecting their robo-brain).
I know you do animations professionally but your 3D animations are way better then anything else iv seen on UA-cam. Also love the Back story, let me guess you are the Evil overlord but lost your memory, thats so Anime. 👍
yeah thats what i thought too lmao, seemed liked an anime plot, not saying it's bad tho, on the contrary, i actually like the story
i loved this ! its so great to see indie devlog of people doing thing the right way (not overscopping, and starting from the core)
your animation skills and style are so amazing to see, this little dude has already so much personality ! Amazing job !!
Yes a new dev log! Can’t wait!
😁🤸♂️
I love a good devlog... that's why I started one for the game I'm creating 👍❤
@@XanderwoodGameDev damn, nice sneaky self ad
@@TheFuckingKrayz LOL... yup. Gotta fly your own flag :)
You work so quickly, this is amazing! I've been building my own 3d platformer on and off for the past couple of years between my day job, obsessing over the little details of character movement. I know that is what is really important in these games and why SM64 is still beloved to this day. You've hit the nail on the head with the flow of momentum you've got.
I really like the story you're crafting! Could be very cool if robots fear Null, but animals and nature don't. So if Null comes across a fox or dog, they're not enemies - rather, they give him items, buffs, something to that effect. Null's process of turning the robots good again would also a process of reconnecting them with nature. The Big Overlord was a human genetic failure, so he sought to use robotics to prolong his life. Thing is, that demanded natural resources, which only led to his further exclusion from nature, because he had to hoard resources for his sole gain. Eventually, he grew resentful of the way he was treated, and built a gigantic tower to live in, where nobody could pester him anymore. Out of his resentment he tried to program a whole new language for the world to operate in. He thought that nature, with is food and reproductive chains, was very much like code; so, why not improve it? After all, it had faults - it bred him and it bred the world that hated him. So that's what he did, creating the hundreds of robots we see around the world, which only led to more and more resources being used, which only led to more conflict. However, his life was soon ending. He could prolongue it no more. At this point, all of his brains and muscles operated on this new coding language he created; which meant, by simply pressing Reset, he could start over again. And that's what he did, and that's what Null is. The Reset Overlord (which could also be a pretty cool title for the game :3), trying to make his way back to his tower to continue his progress.
With this idea, you could also have the Overlord's conscience pestering the player's ear. Much like Glad0s in Portal, the Overlord keeps saying things like "beware the foxes", "trust only the robots" and what not. Basically, the whole thematic structure is kept intact: The Overlord, instead of trying to accept himself and integrate into the world, tried to rule over it, so that he would no longer feel bad about being different. He wanted to simply be equal, not realizing that no one is equal. A fox is not the same as a bear, and not even two bears are the same. But this attitude, of refusing to understand his own uniqueness, meant he kept using the world's natural resources egotistically: he took them for himself and never gave back to nature, which is a core principle of nature's functioning. The robots and nature don't get along well - they see each other as different, not the same. Null, however, was once human, because he was the Overlord. Therefore, nature recognizes him, whereas the robots don't - furthermore, the robots fear him, because he used to rule over them.
So Null must be the one to reconnect the robots and nature, to make them realize the lesson that Overlord couldn't understand: they're not the same, but they ARE equal. They are both alive, both worthy of consideration. This reconciliation is perfectly summed up in the figure of Null: a robot in shell, but a frail human in heart.
And isn't that the whole story of humanity? :)
I usually don't read long replies like this but I'm glad I did! This is beautiful! And whether or not it's similar to the story that I have in my head, it's undoubtedly a wonderful take, and I can definitely draw inspiration from this. Thanks so much for taking the time!
it's amazing to see how much of a difference it makes when it's clear a developer has a lot of skill for animation
its almost a fully fledged game already good job!
Its extremely refreshing to see dev logs for a game by someone who's an animator by trade because your attention to animation detail is really impressive and makes your beginning simple work stand out a lot already
Man not only is this insanely inspiring, it's also got so much potential! I wanna keep my eye on this
This game has big potential! It's great that you're focussing so much on the movement right now because that's gonna be the core part of the game, and it takes time to perfect. I'm really excited to find this channel!
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ADORABLE, this is amazing mate
Love the ideas that you have for the story! Looking forward to seeing how this is going to unpack😁
I really hope that this project doesn't become blotted out, it looks like a really fun game to play and speedrun
Although this game is only in its early stages, im still loving how its developing. The animations are smooth yet snappy and its great how you're getting the basics of movement down first. Im already getting excited about the rest of the game just from this base material. I suppose a suggestion I could give is if you ever add a glide animation into the game it would be quite fitting that a propeller would pop out of nulls head and spin for however long he glides. Perhaps that could be the powerup you use against the one boss you showed that also has a helicopter blade on top. Can't wait to see more from you and if you ever need your community to help out with this game I'll be glad to give my own support in anyway.
Man, this is sounding so fun. You mentioned that a lot of the movements and game structure is building on existing platformer design ideas - but Null himself has got such character in all his movements and the game loop sounds like it brings together those ideas in a unique and really engaging way. I'm looking forward to seeing how it evolves in the other devlogs you've already posted, but excellent work so far.
This is the first UA-cam dev log game that I’ve seen that I actually really want to play! The animations are so smooth and professional looking and I just love the story, great work and I can’t wait till it’s finished :)
The character looks sooooo polished already... i just love that little guy
Dude the story for this game you talked about has a lot of potential, and so does this game. This devlog is great so far!
The crouch walk animation is so cute
the amount of speed you get rolling is actually super satisfying
His Roll reminds me of the Roll from the Wall-e game.
I NEED MORE OF THIS CONTENT IT IS SATISFYING AND I NEED TO SEE THIS BE COMPLETED

i cant wait for it to come out, i kbow it will take a long time but i will be here the entire time supporting you
This story is very intriguing, I really like the sketches and the robot designs, I hope you use them when designing them.
I really hope the game's progress goes smoothly cause I really wanna play this, even with just the character movement test level(s) it looks fun.
I also can't wait for the sound design, I'm a sucker for games with good sound effects and then the character with all his pistons and gears would probably make lots of sounds.
Keep up the good work!
So glad I found your channel! Awesome content right here
Seeing the progress you have made so far is impressive and inspiring! Looking forward to more
I absolutely love this concept, keep up the good work!
I adore your writing AND incredible animations. Great work!
Wow! I can't wait to see more of these devlogs! I really like your work!
looking forward to see you're progression! The story sounds awesome!
This is amazing. I love the story you have so far. I can't wait to see where this goes
Wow this looks amazing! Your idea is very interesting and it has me thinking a lot. Can’t wait to see more! Keep doing what your doing!
I love it! Have to watch the third Devlog as soon as I got time for it!
Can't wait to see more of the progress
@1.48 thank you for showing the climb mechanic. I found it very useful
The amazing animation work you’ve done definitely makes your game stand out imo
Keep at it! Your design and animation skills (in my opinion) are far more valuable than game code! I would suggest some sort of stamina when holding onto walls; that's all :)
dude your animations are soo good it really sells the gameplay but every other detail is also on point you are inspiring us in a good way keep going :)
UA-cam did just recommend me this and it’s amazing! Keep on the hard work you’re on a gorgeous way
your animations are incredible... so much weight, momentum and fun
Great work, cant wait to see new episodes
This game looks and sounds like it will be amazing! Great work, keep up this quality! 🥳
Every animation is rlly amazing!!
this is just amazing and very inspiring! keep on the good work!
Just found your channel, amazing progress on your game! Keep the devlogs coming!
I like these videos because they are well produced and you are proud of your work.
You take your self seriously, and in a world where everyone is so down on themselves you can confidently state what you're doing.
Im loving your devblog and im very intrerested into playing this game. Keep it up dude
You should make it so when he swims, little proppelers pop out of his feet
i REALLY like this concept and plus your doing very well on the game the animations are super smooth and cool the characters are original and also seem to maybe be fun and the gameplay looks like something i can play for hours and hours on end without really caring about much else so i hope you continue this project as long as wanted and i cant wait to maybe play this when it comes out
I truly love the concept you're going for and I think Null is absolutely adorable. Your animation talent and years of experience really shows, and I hope I could be as good as you one day. I can't wait to see where this project goes
Very nice, congrats on your growth as well!
This is the most exciting indie project that I've seen! I'm here for you.
I don't understand how you only have 10k subs, I subbed after the first vid i saw: devlog 1. This game is just amazing even in the first 2 eps. You deserve at least 100k subs for the quality of your vids.
for some reason I just have so much faith that you will finish this project. excited for the next devlog
The animations are top notch my man! Keep it up!
The animations are awesome, great work man!
So fricking impressive, your progress is incredible. This game looks genuinely fun, you really seem to know a lot about platforming gameplay.
I love all of your animations good job!
I love your devlog so much
I never thought about it but the roll looks amazing.
This is really good game development, good luck on the progress!
this looks fantastic!! keep up the good work, can't want to see what this becomes.
7:43 That giant robot is also adorable!
i love how this game is looking, especially it being oriented to speed and going fast. my only suggestion is to maybe have it so when you're climbing on walls, to have the camera auto-face the wall instead of turning to where you're moving on the wall, if that makes sense. basically locking the camera to your back while climbing.
I never comment on UA-cam, it's literally my first comment ever ^^. But this project is really something I'm rooting for right now. I'm a game developer myself, brought to this passion by childhood games like Banjo Kazooie or Mario 64. I'm very fond of animation and programming (that are for me the cornerstones of what breath life into a video game). So this project speaks volume to me.
Your videos are so simple and direct to the point, it's obvious that you know what you're doing, it's a pleasure to tag along. Simple but true, it shows very well the iterative process that goes into creating a game, and convey the pleasure of adding one small but rewarding thing at a time, to shape a game that feels good every step of the way.
It really makes me want to play with the game, event at this stage, just playing with the character.
Keep up the good work, I hope this project will go all the way, I will be waiting to play it whenever this come to fruition. I really hope you get the means to take it from dream to reality :)
Love the updates. Really excited to see more of this, good job!
when you hear the phrase "he has been dead for millenia, so he couldn't possible be you" you KNOW THAT YOU ARE HIM
This is amazing!! I can't wait to see more. Keep it up!!
this looks amazing, the animation in general but especially for the ledge grab looks better than I have seen in a game for a long time, don't give up on this(I just watched the most recent video before watching from the beginning) it needs to exist in the world and could be big.
Very cool video! Love the new aditions
Absolutely loving this I can’t wait! I can already tell this is a game I would love to play!
Omg all your animations are amazing
Nice, like the story too, has "Casshern Sins" vibes. The colored footstep puffs are a wonderful touch.
Really cool dude! Keep going, I'd love to see people play this a lot one day!
This is an amazing concept. For sure I would play this
I'm glad UA-cam recommended me your channel your vids are awesome
uuuh i like it!! the animation is great on that little guy! Im so looking forward to future updates!
This is coming along great! Good job!:)
This is amazing, the concept ideas are fresh and cool, keep it up, you will get far!
The crouch walk animation is so adorable!
You're super talented, dude. The influx in subscribers speaks for itself. I'll be here for the journey! :)
Love it bro, keep up the good work!
I love this idea for a game.. can't wait to see the full thing!
That crouch walk is the best thing I have ever seen
Wow a devlog that actuelly have more than one video. Nice work
