Climbing & Worldbuilding In My Weird Shooter Game - Devlog

- Hi and thanks for joining me in this devlog video! In this video I do some level design, I improve climbing for the player creature and I also add a couple new alien animals to the game.
In case anyone is wondering;
the smoke was a motion tracked simulation (my laptop wasn't actually on fire) and you can't actually drag code directly into the amplify shader editor, that was edited.

I love how living creatures are basically random animals mixed with a snail.
It makes them look simple, nice, and alien at the same time.
It also adds alot of consistency to it, it feels like they all fit into this world ♡

Yea, best I can do is script and somewhat do 3d art.

why no upload >:(

Thanks Mythic Legion! :)
I’m calling it: someone will ask for a new devlog
HES ALIVE lol
You haven't uploaded in 8 months dude
I like how the edge case for wall climbing was literally an edge case.
Im so frickin excited for this game!!
same
Damn, with that tracking of your laptop to add smoke I realized how much effort you put into your videos
Haha glad you noticed! literally took half a weekend for a 3 second clip lol
@@Codeer yes
was just about to get mad for not seeing any comments about that!
i thought that was real lol. Nice job!
Codeer single handedly motivated me to get back into gamedev and coding in general.
Love the vids!
@TheGates same and I really wanna do stuff like making a game

Bro , can't wait for next devlog!
I have never clicked on a video faster!
This is awesome, it's only been a couple of months and it's already taking shape love the dedication!
whew, i got worried that this was abandoned
You continue you to impress every single time
I know it's like every time I get worried he posts, but let's not rush him cause obviously this takes time especially when things like computer crashes happen
@@ryle2814 Yeah, of course, Game development is an extremely hard thing to do. I just get worried that he may have lost motivation
Idea: you could add carnivore wild life in to the game that will attack the other creatures and the player. Amazing game BTW I believe this game is going to become something wonderful.
I highly suggest that idea !!
Man, gotta give you props for everything, but the scene on 00:54 onward with the transition and smoke, that was too clean, really well done!!!
I don't know why but your devlogs are so inspiring that everytime I finish watching one of them I immediatly rush into Unity and start making stuff...
Keep it up man, amazing videos and amazing game :D
Oh and by the way, I think the chicken dinosaur is now one of my favourite things in your game
Haha that's awesome! Happy to hear that! :)
I hope this game will become a large project in next 3-5 years, this is so cool and devlogs are very interesting to watch
I want more! These devlogs are so interesting, can't wait to actually be able to play the game one day!
I love the learning process, it shows that with a good amount of effort even if you aren't too confident in your skills you can achieve some amazing results.
I was waiting for a new devlog I really like the game!
Amazing work! The trees and stones and cliffs really make the level feel organic, its a real gamechanger!
I would love to see a feature in this game in which you could tame the alien creatures and maybe even train them to fight alongside you or after taming them they fight alongside you by following your orders. I would also love a feature , in which some animals will attack you if you attack them while others would run away if you attack them.
Basically ark
The game is looking amazing!!! Can’t wait to play it!
Add a co-deer (companion deer), anyway love these devlog!!
The part with the dot product amazes me. Like, how do you just come up with that, big brain energy
this all looks amazing, can't wait to see more
Wow the game looks amazing I can't wait for what is next to come! Thank you and great job!
If possible I would love longer videos. But I know that video editing is time consuming
I am glad there is finally another devlog update
You were so calm when you lost 2 weeks of work lol
Really digging the update! Huge fan of you sharing the challenges you run into. Always gives me more ideas!
Honestly I've never been this early
I can really see the time and commitment spent on the level you designed and it looks really cool(Can’t wait to see it done). Nice job man.
This was really interesting to watch. Its kind of exciting whit the claiming and I feel like its gets a little bit of exploration to it.
I also love that you keep explaining how you do stuff and what you use. I feel like that when you talk about what tools you use its a help for anyone who wants to make a game themselves ^^
Keep up the good work and see you again in the next month. I am excited
That's all looking really great. I love what you've done with the terrain shader. I've been meaning to upgrade my terrain shader for a while, and this is motivating me to try again soon...
I've been watching your dev vlogs for a long time now. You're doing a great job, keep it up. Ideas are fresh, but also understandable. And I love ROR2 aesthetic in your builds.
Good job and good luck
Thank you!
These devlogs get better and better seriously keep up the amazing work
Some ideas:
- make the snow elephant move slower and make his legs move smaller to make him feel bigger :)
-grapple with the arms would be amazing
-make some chests that give you coins or guns?
Again amazing work 👍
You gotta show off the end results more, man! I love what you're doing, but I didn't get to see enough of those lovely creatures walking around at the end!
Also, maybe the wildlife could interact with each other, like the t-rex chicken chases the snow elephants? Just a thought
IM SO HAPPY YOU'RE POSTING AGAIN!!!🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
yoooooo! you have no idea how much you've just inspired me just now! AWESOME WORK!
A good trick/hint to resolve level design problems with climbing is stamina. Put a stamina/time to climb! Nice work man, continue like that and I'll buy your game some day (I hope soon).
alright, this might not work for the plans you have for this game, but how about:
you are an AI created to control a harvester robot
the point of the game is to collect recources on a planet / in a solar system, after that you go back to some sort of space station / hub were you can buy upgrades, new weapons and gear. with this new equipment you can take on more difficult foes and maybe even go to other places / planets.
"recources" could be gathered from hunting, mining, foraging and fighting the big robots.
since you are a robot, the equipment system could make a lot of sense.
love your work, you are extremely underrated.
These devlogs are so cool. finally a little bit of insight behind how games and the ideas put into them are shown. also thanks for subtitles
These devlogs are so much satisfying .
Thanks for sharing with us🤗🤗🤗🤗
I'm getting strong risk of rain 2 vibes from it. Great job keep going!
This is awesome and really inspiring! Good job, cant wait for the next devlog
Huge inspiration for new game developers
I've been waiting for this! It's looking amazing!
Good to see u advancing mate
Game has such a beautiful style
Love the wall climbing, and is looking cooler with each bit of progress
awesome devlog as per usual! game looks amazing :)
Thanks Zyger!
I didn't expect to see you here anyway hey how are you and how is the development of the game going soo far ?
Awesome video and awesome game as always!, The game just keeps getting more and more better every single day! 😄
I dont know what to say, but youre the best, the passion for making the game a masterpiece!!!! An inspiration!
Hey dude, looking awesome! really love watching the game grow, esp the addition of the new creatures :) a quick tip I learned when starting to dive into level design is to keep in mind the size of spaces. the easiest thing to make your levels feel a lot more professional is basically cut the size of everything in half. if you look at your clip from 1:45 you could probably reduce the size of everything by 50% and still have it feel roomy. that way you will also have a lot more contrast, or"wow" factor for the player when you actually open something up for a truly large space or huge boss like your giant spider for example. Anyhow, hope this was helpful and good luck!
Thanks for the feedback! Appreciate it! Haha in the past I always made my levels way to small so now I'm often afraid they'll turn out too small. You're definitely right though the level is perhaps a bit too large :)
This game should have it's own steam page! Great work!
This is looking like a really good concept looking forward to seeing more and hopefully playing your game one day 🙂
I am loving the progress of this beautiful game
Why ain't there be at least 100k subs yet this man is heavily underrated. Keep up the Good Work!
I can't help but think about Gooseworx when seeing that climbing animation.
Climbing movement based on camera position is definitely a great idea! Keep up the good work.
Thanks Skeffles!
Holy crap this is a ton of progress was definantly worth the wait on this
Amazing job so far peep!
Wow can’t wait to play this game!,
one animation tip: Most heavy weight animals only lift one foot at the time. This also looks awesome btw.
You Gone Too Crazyyyy!!!!🔥🔥
You make so much progress in each devlog! It sucks that you don't gain much traction because there only monthly, but if I were to guess I think your going to blow up soon. Don't forget me when your famous!
Really love your content!! I also have an idea for the creature form. when he is a creature, the guy should be able to communicate with animals and this could be used for the plot of the game. you could also ask animals for help.
Hi, awesome video. I think it would be sick if the player did half of a slow layout backflip when going from planet to planet, this would mean that he wouldn't land upside down on the next level. and it would look cool
Been waiting for this for a minute
I've been waiting for this, and it's always worth the wait. Love the series codeer, keep it up ^^
Glad you like it! Thanks! :)
Loving this series 😍
You are another gem on this platform which now i look up to.... Heck you are an inspiration man....Really love this game and the way you making your videos reminds me of Fat Dino(he is another game dev on youtube, he uses unreal engine) you really sound like him and uses the same type of music really
how you fixed the corner bug was very interesting, love your devlogs!
I love how short these devlogs are
Short but absolute quality
Keep up the awesome work
I like the raycast solution a lot. Nice job with the shader!
Just the content I needed to watch today
I love your dedication so much! The amount of consideration you put into all of this is astonishing, I can't wqit to play this gem!
I would love to see some sort of a high risk high reward gun for people who are really good at aiming. It could me something simple like double damage but self damage and additionally removed bullets from the magazine on miss
Thank you! That sounds like a really fun idea!
"snail elephant" I actually REALLY like that description. I honestly have little to no idea how to come up with original creatures, but I remember hearing that all imaginary creatures are either just off versions of real creatures, or amalgamations of things from various real creatures. so this gave me an "ah-ha!" moment :)
Wow this game looks amazing have fun making it and I will have fun playing when it's ready.
love your devlogs, inspires me a lot! keep the good work!
Awesome! Thank you! :)
I am looking at your future with great interest, I can't wait for this to be released
Just an idea, you might want to add in some sort of surface that the player can't climb on, this will allow you to make certain area's player can't skip through, platforming area's including vertical platforming and maybe even armour for the robots to stop the player climbing all over them till they shoot it off. but its looking good so far.
Amazing, can't wait to see more!
Wow can’t wait to play this game! Looks awesome!
one animation tip: Most heavy weight animals only lift one foot at the time. This also looks awesome btw.
Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely try and improve the animation!
This all looks so fun! You actually seem really really good at level design and I think that this would be way way over my head to script. One thing: I think that the animal movements are a little bit too "snappy" or fast. This isn't a big deal, but if you made them a little bit slower to make them seem like they have more realistic weight this might improve it a little; other than that you don't really have to change anything else in my opinion! :D
changing form mid jump is such a small detail but it will make the gameplay SO much better
And as always the editing is great, I just hope it does not take you too much time.
Great video! You are so talented not only at coding but also creativity
This game has some very fun mechanics. I look forward to seeing its release!
my philosophy for level design is essentialy;
Teach a mechanic
Test the players’ skills
Teach a new mechanic
Combine
Repeat
So the "start all over" technique to improve your art, is true! Seriously the new designs of the buildings are much more appealing imo.
Really like the Snailephant design, simple yet effective
This is amazing! I can't wait to see how this all turns out. You're really making great progress. You should think about doing a tutorial series for the entire dev process. It would be very popular!
Hello! You mention that you were worried about your levels being too focused on just running and shooting. This is just a suggestion that might help make your "indoor/building" level designs more interesting. Players basically have free 360 movent because of your climbing mechanic, so when building your buildings, You might want to take inspiration from the M. C. Escher painting Relativity. Using this painting as inspiration for the buildings would help give that "alien" look and feel to the designs as well as making sure that your walls/ceilings wouldn't just be flat but have variation.
Maybe you read this, maybe this comment gets lost in the sea of other comments. either way, This game is looking great! Glad to see this dev-log after a long period of inactivity. Can't wait for more!
Still looks amazing!! Looking forward for the next video
This game looks amazing I hope you have success in the future
I want air ducts to climb through, the movement just screams to have it. Also maybe some things that can only be accessed from the ceiling. Looking awesome so far.
Pretty cool! Just some tiny improvements I could think of...
1) When jumping towards a wall it takes some time for the characted to switch to the wall climb animation... You already said you would be raycasting... You could switch to the climbing animation earlier if the character moves towards a wall making it look a lot smoother and as if the character would damp its landing...
2) The aliens walk cycle isn't symmetric... The head movement makes it look like it broke its feet, haha
"I hope this was interesting" oh you have no idea how interesting all of this is
