I love both versions of the minis, each with their one kind of charm. The 1e minis feel like they are straight out of a comic or cartoon, while the 5e ones feel like they could actually exist in another reality.
SPOiLER WARNING 1e Acerarak is actualy a fake left to confuse adventurers to think they kill him, while the 5e one is a clone send to the forgotten relms
I never understand how Drow revere spiders, but being turned into a giant half-spider is considered a horrifying punishment and a fate worse than death, but one of Lolth's forms is a giant half-spider.
16:13 saw a traditional kirin statue at a temple in Taiwan that pretty much had this exact same pose and general look. Nevertheless I prefer the 1st edition version of the two.
"i borrowed this sweet webbed collar from my friend, first edition strahd. he told me they're all the RAVE where he's from" (RAVE-nloft???) yep. Ted is a genius.
I was actually very surprised when I found out that 5e kobolds were draconic looking. When I first started playing 5e, I created a greedy goblin rogue. I rescued a kobold that was being held in a prison that I was trying to break out of somewhere just so I could have a meat shield to help me escape. I kept calling him furball. Then I saw pictures of 5e kobolds and went "Wait a minute..."
These people are asking WAY to much for these mini's and I really do like them. Also no master set with everything is scammy. Don't force people to play the lottery when buying your product it might be ok for booster packs of playing cards but even that's predatory.
Great vid! The minis are all pretty cool, thanks for going through them! I think the problem that I have with this set (which formed the more you went through them) is that the comparison between the old and new, the way they're doing, tacitly implies that new is better. This really hit home with the Strahd mini. The cover art for Ravenloft is BADASS, but they did a pretty crummy job with translating it into a sculpt.
I love how 1e Gold Dragon is the Asian dragon, because this is the year of Dragon!

I love how many of the 1e minis are still useful beyond nostalgia factor.
The 1e Mordenkainen is Gary Gygax, 5e is Chris Perkins
I want all of the ones have seen so far. Never can have too many minis :)
Your commentary was brilliant! I just about died laughing at Snagglepus.
We disagree
One of the secret chase minis has to be the 1e beholder!
Dude!!! I need these I my dad taught me 1st Ed before I delved into 3rd Ed and these miniatures are classic!
IGN revelled 2 of the chases
I still have my original AD&D miniature’s that are 46 years old!
Sands of Doom hopefully coming soon, you can get your gnoll fix.
The 1e shadow demon is the same as the vanger minion from the d&d 80's cartoon that was every day in brazilian tv until 2013

as always, great video and your takes on the evolution of the design was very entertaining, that 1e gold dragon is just peak for me.
these minis would be cool in like a multiverse campaign
Don't hurt that poor flail snail! It just wants explore caves, eat, and vibe with crystals.
The 1st edition gold dragon miniature is *chef's kiss*.
Too bad it is not on sale separately AND I am no longer in a 1st world country. LoL.
Your comments comparing them were FLAWLESS
1st edition red dragon is an insta buy for me.
Same. Might need 2 x... so I can black one base out.
I never understand how Drow revere spiders, but being turned into a giant half-spider is considered a horrifying punishment and a fate worse than death, but one of Lolth's forms is a giant half-spider.
The 1e shadow demon is from the 80s dnd cartoon.
1e shadow demon was in the cartoon as well.

Wow
I can’t wait to get some of these
I loved the Holmes dragon the lemure and the 1st edition gith.
"i borrowed this sweet webbed collar from my friend, first edition strahd. he told me they're all the RAVE where he's from" (RAVE-nloft???)

On the gnoll minis, the 5e mini looked more like the flind to me, since they are usually black.
That gold dragon looks a lot like shenron not gonna lie
1e kobolds actually had scales, and were also doglike
I immediately thought that has to be a 1st edition dragon

I'm liking these, I'll hunt for vecna and the rest
nice how the "50" also looks like "5ə"
man.... if Gary could see this right now....
Is it just me or does the retro red dragon look like the one from Shrek?
Good catch! lol
@Sanguivore maybe the Shrek guys modeled their dragon on the old basic set.
@@jimzecca3961 🤯
@@jimzecca3961 I honestly think you may be right! Super interesting if they did.
I love the 1e artwork so much better, but i'll never buy a Wizkids lootbox of any kind.
1e Strahd has a wife, 2 kids, a dog and a white picket fence. 5e Strahd is the scary incel we all know and love
It’s an obscene money grab for Hasbro. The cost of everything has increased significantly since they took possession of WoTC .
Peak commentary XD

Do yourselves a big favor. Watch this with the sound off if you don't want to throw up in your mouth. Some EXCELLENT minis...but expensive AF
This would have been 100% better without old man WITHERS opening his fuggin pizza dumpster. Just show the images already.
I will never buy a random box
Hey Ted I tried to get back to you I to tech savy maybe you can reach me another way .
