One note or suggestion: I would encourage users to know that DCS or CTCSS tones do not provide any privacy. Anyone who is on the same channel will still hear you. What they ultimately do is filter-out anyone NOT using the feature. HAM users and Scanners can detect the tones you're using in seconds (it's actually ms) and be listening while you may believe you have some form of privacy. Always assume that you can be heard anywhere at any time and never use it illegally or in a SHTF situation to give-out too much information for what you are or what you have.

And if you’re going to make a video about programming the radio don’t have it already programmed. You should’ve deleted and started from scratch for us.
Great video. Thank you. Just one tip. First, you need to delete the previous channel to add another frequency on the same channel. You can't just overwrite it. I just spent over one hour figuring out what I am doing wrong during saving new frequencies to a channel.
The official frequencies are given to 5 decimal places, but it is only possible to program to 3 places. Do you just ignore the last 2 digits, or round them, or what?
I measured the UV9R+ which is supposed to be 18Watt. It's really 3 Watt in VHF mode and 8Watt in UHF. So it's roughly half what they claim which is usually the case with these things. I tried programming it with Chirp but it didn't work. Maybe they've updated Chirp now so that now it will work but I don't know about that.
Can anyone please tell me how to get the VOX function to work. I followed the instructions in the user manual but I still can't get VOX to work. Thanks.
I'm a bit confused as a in a picture I saw of this handset it had 'Digital mobile radio' printed on it which means it is not compatible with the analogue ham system. I'm assuming they've done that just for confusion.
The UV9R is not a DMR However Baofeng made one that looks very similar the DMR1801 that is, but is also a standard vhf uhf HT so compatible with 2m and 70cm
When in channel mode and channels programmed. I hold the scan button but nothing happens, except a purple screen. It will say scanning beacon in frequency mode though.
It's no further or less than without. In fact, do not be mistaken that it provides any privacy. HAMs or people with quality scanners can actually detect the tones in a matter of seconds and be able to listen to your conversation without you knowing it's been captured and used to access. For general purposes, always assume someone can hear what you say.
About 2 watts extra if you’re lucky, though it’s also supposed to be IP67 water resistant The UV5R is easier to use and program and a great standard radio, slightly less cost too
Hi, thx for the Video! How do you like the performance? Do you have a comparison? (just got my licence and thinking about getting one) thx a lot in advance, Dirk
@@cybersocal and yes you can save by name, you have to enable that function in another menu. I don’t remember the menu number (menu 21 and 22 I think), it can be changed through Chirp also. You have to have Chirp to name them, no alphanumeric option available through keypad programming.

Cheers mate... Helped a lot. Skorp - Western Australia
G'day fellow Aussie - I've just discovered that Baofeng radios are illegal in Australia. I found that out after I'd already bought one from ebay.
Where did ya get that list from for the channels cheers buddy
G'day, you do your information really well. Little bit of advice, please try to keep your radio in the camera. Thanks you're a big help

What's the battery mah on the 9Rplus?
@@Falling_Down_D-FENS It's 2200mAh
Chirp works fine with this now 👍
@@briantheminer Excellent Thanks!
I have a uv-9R plus how do i get the setup channels to copy from my dads to mine. I bought the cable off ebay and it wont work or come up in chirp

Love this radio. Nice video too.
can you provide links for the printed frequency lists you used
This would be great.
Where are you gettin all those numbers that you inputting

What site did you go to??
Have you been able to locate any software for the baofeng uv9r.
On Wish.com you can pick up the software and programming cable for about $9 australian money im not sure of your currency though.
CHirp works with it
@@Capstrats I would agree chirp works that is what i use
Can the 9R Plus be programmed through CHIRP?
is there a difference between the -era version
Thanks for the vid. How do I enter seven digit numbers???
I think you can only enter 6 digits in and the last digit auto fills in.
Hello, tnx for the video, if UV-9R CAN TRANSMIT TO THE MOTOROLA VX-261 radio???if can, how?
What is the distance or range after DCS with private communication

What’s the difference between this and the UV-5?
About 2 watts extra if you’re lucky, though it’s also supposed to be IP67 water resistant
The UV5R is easier to use and program and a great standard radio, slightly less cost too
hello whether the 40 cm ninja antenna is suitable
It said transmitting memory for the first one you saved and receiving memory for the second, why is that?
The down side is you cannot enter a name for the frequency, unless using computer programming
I program it using Chirp, setting it on USB0 as a UV-82WP. Much easier than manual programming.
How to pair this with motorola walkie talkie channel 3?
Hi,
thx for the Video!

How to connect it with 888s
Where did you get the frequency charts from ?

@@AcousticSailing thanks
It work with the walmart frequency?
Hi baofeng I can not find the pc install program for uv-9r. Would you give me a link to get me to programa?
Sergio Cuminao olá, tem um Baofeng uv-9r?
É bom?
Quero comprar um e estou indeciso entre esse e o uv-5r.
so far i prefeer the 9-r... better in all aspect... but i cant find the program for setting on my pc...
sorry my english i am from chile
Sergio Cuminao já usaste outros baofeng? Quais?
João França yes i had a 5r
Sergio Cuminao and this uv-9r is better?
For a newby this is like pied type, trying to follow your finger movements were nearly impossible.
can u connect to baofeng 888s ?
YES
Can you program these through CHIRP so the channels have a name
The CHIRP home page lists "UV-9R/9R PLUS/9R ERA" so it is supported by CHIRP.
@@IanMorris500 Thanks, I'll look again!!!

Is it really 15w
No, that's a UV9R Plus. That gets nowhere near the alleged 15w. Less than half that on test.
@@mikesey1 There is no UV-9R Plus anyway. It's fake rebadged BF-A58/GT-3WP/UV-9R 5W radio pretending to be a 8W/15W/whatever they want to make up.
5W
Jeff Tham absolutely and they don’t even have the UV9R + on the Boafeng website.
How use fm radio ...not working
Do I have to program to scan emergency freqs and that sort of stuff? I tried typing it it but I’m the newest of new to radios...
If you have not discovered it by now. You may realize that most police and ems frequencies are above the range of these radios.

How to switch from chanal mode to frequency mode?
@Andrew Wight Tanks.
I thought I purchased a scanner........? But, what I'm understanding, this is a calculator?
Thank you sir!
DCS press no.10??? there are only 0-9 keyboard digits.. you mean zero, not 'ten'
is this radio 10watt? thanks
No, it's 5W.
Audio quality of video is fucking nuts
good grief...half the time the screen of the radio is way off, and the audio is almost impossible to tell what you are mumbling about
15 watts of rf into your eyes not a good choice
luckily its 15 chinese watts which is only about 3 actual watts
dont try it in water, my Baofeng 9R get fucked by one simple drop in the water :( it was brand new
really , I didn't understand anything....
All of this is just to confusing for me...This thing is going into the trash...
To be honest this makes it complicated
With a program cable and chirp download it’s much easier
Stick with it if you haven’t binned it 😂
