"Hey everybody, Doug here with One Eye Customs, welcome back. Today we're going to begin our barndominum project on the property line between me and Adam with Hometown Acres."
Adam: I'm liking the looks of it , but I'm waiting for finished product. Myself I do prefer a Tongue & Groove, but the Ship-Lap works better in a dusty environment. Catch you on the next one.
Looks good. I would just preserve or use a satin finish. By the time you get everything hung up on the walls you won't even see the boards anymore. Using a clear will just keep it bright in the shop.
I did a project several years ago using planks from a local home goods store. The wood was not quite dry. Sound familiar? As time went by the wood dried and every once in a while we would hear a load POP from down stairs. Yup, you guessed it, the wood dried out and cracked but for some time my wife and I thought someone was trying to get into the house. Just a heads up for you. Great job by the way. Home ownership keeps you off the streets because you can't afford to go anywhere else.
It looks amazing Adam. My entire home in solid wood finished. 3/4" Maple cathedral ceilings. Custom oak cabinets. Tongue and groove pine on the lower level. I am partial to the wood look. Great job.
Very nice work and also video production. I like to see the natural variation in the materials. It would be a boring world if every board had perfectly straight grain and all looked alike. "Run what you brung, use what you got"", as it were. Thanks for sharing this series.
Your idea of finishing the posts and windows to match the sign is awesome and make the finish as clear as you can. Adam, I am jealous that I can’t do all that to mine.
The wall turned out nice and the grain of the lumber has a nice appeal. I would seal it with some linseed oil so that grain continues to be visible. If you want to make it darker than what the linseed oil makes it, you could always add some pigment.
The ship lap boards really looks great in the building. I think a natural, clear finish would be the way to go, it will keep the room light and also allow the natural beauty of the wood to show...
You are selling yourself short on your skills. You are a lot better than 3 out 10. I was very lucky to grow up with a Dad that was pretty good at a lot of things. I helped and learned and didn't realize how much I was learning. I really didn't realize than not everyone had that opportunity to learn and some had the chance but didn't take advantage. I hope that you are able to have your son and daughter work with you and learn. The building is looking great. You should be proud. And keep the cooler full for neighbor Doug.
Looks great. The rustic look of the ship lap hides the nails. Clear finish (if any). It is a garage after all and soon you will be covering most of the walls.
Wow! Just Wow! I must admit I was expecting you to lay them horizontal but vertical is good. As for planing/nails/gaps - your castle, your choice. Well done Adam (and Doug).
The wall looks fantastic. I noticed the last video that you released, you were sweeping your floor. It may sound funny but ,did you ever think about using your vacuum? It would stop a lot of dust created with the broom. Always enjoy your videos.👍🇨🇦
Yeah I occasionally use the dust collector to vacuum the floor but sometimes it’s just easier to grab the broom. I need to get a vacuum extension handle so I don’t have to bend over
Adam, this looks awesome! Good for you and so glad neighbor Doug was able to impart his knowledge on you. I would stain it and keep the natural look. It's gorgeous wood!!
Well done. Working your way up that DIY scale...You will be a 10/10 in no time if you keep this up. Love the style. I agree with keeping the walls light and trimming out around the windows. to brake it up just a bit.
ADAM, posts and trim like you said. It's your place finish as YOU want! Cheap finish (or used to be)...lacquer sanding sealer, it'll keep the wood from dust accumulating + easier clean ,and not glossy .
It looks great! Better than I pictured in my head. I would finish with a light stain like oak or maple and some satin varnish. Fill the nail holes with wood putty before and you will barely notice them. Maybe a bead of brown cement caulk (like you finish along a bathtub with) along the bottom on the cement barrier. It completes the airseal and makes it much easier to clean.
Nice work Adam. This is what We used on Our White pine interior finish. Applied what a brush and lite rub over with steel wool between coats. Wife will use a duster on a short handle to keep looking like day one.
That turned out fantastic Adam, great job. I agree on the clear finish. Find a stain for the posts and window trim, then clear polyurethane over everything.
That turned out real nice. Well done, Sir, well done. And well done to you Neighbor Doug. Looks great. And as for the nail heads, find a matching putty and putty the head and problem solved, if that's a big deal.
I love it. Its a beautiful garage accent and it shows your deducation to your work!! And you have an amazing neighbor who love to help which can be hard to find nowadays!! Yall did amazing and again congrats on the new born Adam
It looks amazing. I can imagine the pride you feel looking at that. From a log to shiplap to wall. I just love it! Congratulations! As far as colors I’ve got very little to say. LOL I like the idea of having most of it clear and some accent bits painted/stained brown. I’m a big fan of stain so you can see the wood grain but you have to clear coat over the stain so it’s more work. Again congratulations!
I knew it would look good but that looks even better than I expected. I love house builds when you include a part of the property or special effort that makes your home not only a home but a talking piece.
Well done Adam I love the way it turned out super awesome job. Your plan for painting it , I think will look awesome. You’re way more than a 3 out of 10.
We witnessed Doug’s vertical limitations coming into play with the rubber mallet. All kidding aside it must be nice to have such a knowledgeable and helpful neighbour and friend. Great job with the walls gents….looks great !!
A piece of foam board glued on a old piece of plywood gives you a flat firm surface on the work bench. You can easily remove the sacrifice top and not cut into the original table tops. Great job. Store your sawdust and wood chips in the plastic totes or used feed bags. You can then process the sawdust into wood pellets. It's a great way to chip the saw waste, keep the yard clean and recycle more of the tree. Growing mushrooms on 4' long branches would be a great add on consumable product for any wood fired restaurant. I'd bet the pellets would sell well from the stands in 40# bags. Imagine filling a hopper that holds a month's supply with pellets and woodchips. Just the sawdust requires pelletizing. Use the mini x to hold the recycled bulk feed bags and move them to storage. Sell chips, pellets or sawdust. In Europe burning chips and pellets are very popular, price should go up as demand is increasing with many buying wood burning stoves. I wonder what the electricity plants pay per ton vs paper mills vs consumer direct.
As it's pine and will yellow substantially over time, I would apply a whitewash so you can still see the grain of the wood, but you are still able to have light reflect off of the walls. Good work.
Would have suggested you put finish on them before you put them up and then you could have put sealer on both sides so they would dry at the same rate. If you put a sealer on the front side and not the back the back will dry faster and might cause more warping.
Love it, but that's a lot of time/energy/effort/wood for a workshop. I would have trouble hanging anything on that wall now. Beautiful - maybe a clear satin finish to allow the colors to come through without covering up the natural beauty of the wood. Oh, I'm also going to the dealership and getting a CF Moto U Force 1000 today - thanks for the recommendation!
Love it and the nails. The nails will disappear to your eye in no time flat. My whole house is board and batten siding with stainless ring shank nails. Unless you are trying to see them you don't. As far as stain or clear I'd say clear everything and let it color natural over the years. The window trim will change the most over time because of the sunlight. Not bad for a number cruncher.😁
If it were my project I would finish the wood with a "clear stain", and yes I would do the *posts* and *window trim*, with a darker 'brown' stain! Sure doesn't look like a garage anymore, more "cabin like" and has that "warm" home like appearance! Great job ,with *neighbor Doug's* expertise and help!
I Hate it Adam. Because I don't have a workshop/ garage like that. Looks great. Why is Doug so good is because of he's trade "Tool and Die maker" ALWAYS LOOKING FOR A SOLUTION.
I’m a tough one to impress and you did it my friend. Looks great. Check out man o war marine grade varnish. It works really well on wood in climates that vary.
Way to go man! Great stuff! Love your content and you have inspired me to start my own Chanel! Can't wait to grow and Learn as you have! My son loves watching Adam videos!
Add a link to your channel in the comments of his latest video- when you are up and running. It takes awhile to get a subscriber base … so I wish you much success.
Looks great!! 👍🏻 👏🏼 I’d fill in those nail holes with some wood filler or something and definitely apply a sealer. In just a matter of time the kids will be running around in the garage with a crayon or marker. Hopefully with a sealant you’d be able to clean it off.
everyones gonna have an opinion, but you know what they say about opinions. It looks awesome, great work. And i don't think you give yourself enough credit Adam, with what I'm seeing on this channel your are much handier than 3/10.
Nice work my friend. I'd contribute that you're on the right track with a clear coat on the main walls. The brown on your posts will play off your logo sign nicely. Well Done!
Solid job Adam. ✊ Whatever finish you decide for the window reveals you are bang-on to to those posts the same colour, unless you are finishing the boards. If you plan on finishing the boards, have them match the posts and do the window reveals in a contrasting colour. White, or maybe grey like the floor. Either way, I’m sure you’ll make a good decision and I look forward to seeing it.
If you want to keep the color you will want to do a water based poly. I recommend General Finishes High Performance. It also has low VOCs so you won’t have to worry about the toxic fumes as much. Looking nice. Well done.
Adam, it is impressive how well you planned out this project. The finished wall looks amazing! The way you suggested finishing the wall will look great in my opinion. Steve
I love it it looks cottage country And better yet you have the gra vacation of knowing that you weren't how to do it and that you did it yourself with a little help from your mentor good work just think of the hours that you got to finish the rest of the wood to finish the rest of the garage

I hate it😂😂😂😂 I hate that I don’t have a garage to build and trim out. One of these days you will be over here helping me finish out one!
Be Like EVERY other UA-cam creator and build another 1
Haha ! Watch out for the guy next door
Name the time and place
"Hey everybody, Doug here with One Eye Customs, welcome back. Today we're going to begin our barndominum project on the property line between me and Adam with Hometown Acres."
@Blake Some day I hope to be able to do an intro like that!!!
I would use a light brown stain on the trim and posts. Then use a clear urethane on the entire wall.
Looks great to me
2👍👍up.
Have a Jesus filled day everyone
Greg in Michigan
You have become a very interesting competitor to Mike Morgan although I am sure you are not seeing yourself as such. Keep up that great work. Bravo.

You are way more than a 3 out of 10! Also it is great to have a mentor like Doug.
Looking great!!!! Also you always pick the best music for your videos.
Thank you!
You could take a picture of your garage and try to "photoshop" color options to see if you like darker trim.
It looks really good! I enjoyed this video. KC Don 😉
Very nice work and also video production. I like to see the natural variation in the materials. It would be a boring world if every board had perfectly straight grain and all looked alike. "Run what you brung, use what you got"", as it were. Thanks for sharing this series.
good job adam and doug ken from kent england
Looks great. My vote is darker posts and trim with clear finish o the walls!! Keep up the good work!

We just need to know how many Steak Dinners are you on the hook for with neighbor Doug.
Always makes you feel good when you accomplish a project, save some money learn from it and always great to have a good neighbor!! Looks good adam
You are selling yourself short on your skills. You are a lot better than 3 out 10.

You built the nicest interior fence that I’ve ever seen.
@Hit me up @HometownAcres via Tele_gram @HometownAcres … here’s a scammer to delete.
Well done. Working your way up that DIY scale...You will be a 10/10 in no time if you keep this up. Love the style. I agree with keeping the walls light and trimming out around the windows. to brake it up just a bit.
Neat job - you must feel a great sense of achievement - having milled, planed and installed the siding timber. 👍👍
ADAM, posts and trim like you said. It's your place finish as YOU want! Cheap finish (or used to be)...lacquer sanding sealer, it'll keep the wood from dust accumulating + easier clean ,and not glossy .
Came out nice! I'll be putting up my 1x12 shiplap barn siding come spring (if I can get time for it with the new baby...)
Wall looks great. I would do the posts darker but keep the frame around the window the same as the walls.
It looks great! Better than I pictured in my head.
I would finish with a light stain like oak or maple and some satin varnish. Fill the nail holes with wood putty before and you will barely notice them. Looks great Adam! Have a good day, from Northwestern Vermont
Just a Big WOW, it turned out Amazing, your ever growing Talents are reflected by that wall.
Wrap your beams in the same material. Looks good!!

Looks awesome Adam. Clear coat for sure, wrap the beams and clear coat also in my opinion. 👊👍
Adam I would go with a stain that is the same shade as the corner slabs to incorporate that corner with the rest of the garage
Agree! The natural cherry color behind the wood stove would be my choice to pull it all together.
I love it. Its a beautiful garage accent and it shows your deducation to your work!! And you have an amazing neighbor who love to help which can be hard to find nowadays!! Yall did amazing and again congrats on the new born Adam
It looks amazing.

I would trim darker to match and clear poly the rest
I knew it would look good but that looks even better than I expected. I love house builds when you include a part of the property or special effort that makes your home not only a home but a talking piece.
Not bad for an accountant lol. In all seriousness it looks great, hats of to Doug for coming over and helping you out.
You hit the Jackpot moving next to Doug, I watch his channel all the time, Doug can do everything, he’s a perfectionist
Back in the 70s my dad got some old barn boards and used them on some walls. He didn't let them dry and they shrunk a lot. I think you'll be good.
Staining the posts a dark stain will give it character. And put a NON YELLOWING URETHANE on the boards themselves would look great
I love it Brother! I would be happy with that look for the interior of my house. Take care, stay safe and warm.
God Bless you all !!!
Looks good! How ever you decide to finish the wall, know that over time it will yellow.
Well done Adam I love the way it turned out super awesome job. Your plan for painting it , I think will look awesome. You’re way more than a 3 out of 10.
Looks awesome! A lot of hard work went into making it look that way and that's something to be proud of. More outlets more outlets more outlets. Lol
We witnessed Doug’s vertical limitations coming into play with the rubber mallet. All kidding aside it must be nice to have such a knowledgeable and helpful neighbour and friend. Great job with the walls gents….looks great !!

Good thought! I think that the plan is to wait until Spring to seal them which will add drying time.
Love it, but that's a lot of time/energy/effort/wood for a workshop. I would have trouble hanging anything on that wall now. Smart move using the black vapor barrier. Looking good.

Matt you & Doug did an awesome job on the wall. Keep it natural because it looks great. I like to use Thompson's Water Seal myself.
Lol, his name is Adam.
Window trim clear like the walls and brown on the posts is my vote.

Another great video!! You & Doug work so well together!! 🌟 God bless y'all and your families!! 👍💖🙏
It’s looking
Spectacular Adam, yes that neighbour Doug his a talented individual to say the least. Garage will be awesome!👌🏻🔥🇨🇦
I think I would paint the post and window trim black. It seams like black iron and wood looks great together that's me but it looks great Adam
I Hate it Adam. Because I don't have a workshop/ garage like that. Looks great. Why is Doug so good is because of he's trade "Tool and Die maker" ALWAYS LOOKING FOR A SOLUTION.

The brown is a good idea. It looks so good. You have done a great job.

Looks great guys! Nice job trimming out the outlets.
WOW, that looks REALLY NICE!!! Love it.
Looks great!! 👍🏻 👏🏼
I’d fill in those nail holes with some wood filler or something and definitely apply a sealer.
In just a matter of time the kids will be running around in the garage with a crayon or marker. Hopefully with a sealant you’d be able to clean it off.
Looks good Adam. I like the idea of staining the post dark and around the windows and just use a water base poly on the walls.
Great progress, I think it looks really great , 👍👍
everyones gonna have an opinion, but you know what they say about opinions. It looks awesome, great work. And i don't think you give yourself enough credit Adam, with what I'm seeing on this channel your are much handier than 3/10.
I appreciate that!
Great job Adam! Love the rustic look.
"OH ADAM!" LOL. Sure glad Doug has a full time job now with you, Adam.
Looks very nice! darker trim would be a good choice, the contrast would really set it off!!
Adam, great job on the walls, I would go with the darker trim on the windows and trim, looks awesome.
Well done! Great job! Doug is a blessing to you for sharing his knowledge.
Nice work my friend. I'd contribute that you're on the right track with a clear coat on the main walls. The brown on your posts will play off your logo sign nicely. Well Done!
Solid job Adam. ✊

Agree on using general finishes products. Excellent idea! I use their gel stain and poly for furniture projects frequently
Looks great Adam. I'm sure that it is a very gratifying personal accomplishment. .
Adam, it is impressive how well you planned out this project. The finished wall looks amazing! The way you suggested finishing the wall will look great in my opinion. Steve
That looks spectacular!!!! Well done and kudos to neighbor Doug.
I love it it looks cottage country And better yet you have the gra vacation of knowing that you weren't how to do it and that you did it yourself with a little help from your mentor good work just think of the hours that you got to finish the rest of the wood to finish the rest of the garage
Your wall came out very nice . Good job guys.
Looks great, good craftsmanship in your work
I would wrap the treated with the pine. The pine looks great nice job
Looks awesome! Aren’t neighbors great! Doug is the real deal! I’ve been subbed to his channel for a while too. He is a craftsman for sure.
Wow! I am speechless. As most know that’s doing something. You guys knocked this one out of the park and half way across the Atlantic. So brilliantly thought out and done. My hats off the neighbor Doug. He is a true asset to his family and friends, but I know you know that. You are truly blessed to be so close to him. I am positive he feels the same way. I love the color scheme ideas. I was wondering if you could use a tinted finish to get a tad bit closer to the color on the horizontal siding behind the stove? At any rate whatever you do, it will be spot on. You made that garage a symbol of your drive and integrity. I celebrate you and all of your accomplishments. See you in the next installment. Blessings from the Hawkeye state.
I love it! My preference would be just a clear coat that gives it an amber tone to match the cherry more. Or maybe an oil finish to really accent the grain, and then a clear coat.
Looks really good. Maybe trim out the posts in the pine and still stain the darker color.
That looks Awesome Adam!!! Great job.
Looks great Adam. I agree with you on the way you want to finish the staining on this project
Looking good! I'd go with a (semi-)transparent stain for the siding as well as for the posts and the window frames.
Take care & stay safe ;-)
