“A24 has been killing it lately... but that’s neither here nor there...” translation: “A24 please green light the There Comes A Knocking feature, I love you”
The most important thing I have learned from directing was connecting with the actors and your main collaborators. It really helps everyone be way more connected, and more like friends than just workers.
I completely understand what you're going through regarding relinquishing total-control of all the facets of a production, trusting others to help you reach your vision, and focusing more on the actors and talking about themes, visuals, and how they all come together to make a true collab effort. I'm going through the same right now as I ramp up production on my new horror short. The one thing I always tell people getting into this industry is that it's not glamorous, it's gritty and hard. It's more about perseverance, work ethic, and belief in one-self. Thanks, Ryan for making these posts and inspiring others to following their dreams. I'm looking forward to TCAK next week and good luck on your feature adaptation. I'm rooting for you, man.
Ryan, your efforts with Film Riot and the continued videos that you make for us each week sets you apart from ANY other film maker that I know. You have a certain ethic about you that resonates with the mass majority of your fan base. I would give my right arm to be in one of your movies! I would seriously jump on a plane tomorrow (and i'm shit scared of flying) because I consider you to be the future of movies.
Thanks guys for breaking down the whole process. For someone who’s just starting out, this gave me a lot of insight on how each detail can have a big impact overall.
Dude I'm so proud of how far you've gone with your productions and this channel! I was learning from Film Riot before I went to hands on film school. Just checking back in on this channel now and it's making me nostalgic and also impressed you guys have kept it going this strong, and also really leveled up your own productions. Inspiring.
The great thing about Ryan is, that he exactly went through, what I´m currently in and despite the struggle you have, you should never lose your passion. He did not. Look at what Film Riot has become. I´m really proud of all of you, guys!
This is one the best examples of content from FilmRiot. Bravo. Most kind for sharing. Very well constructed, but the content here is worth its weight in gold.
Thank you for everything Ryan! You've been a huge inspiration, and the best film teacher a person could want. I am so excited to see your career taking off, and can't wait to see There Comes a Knocking, both the short film and the feature (because it's going to happen)!
I can’t wait to see what comes next in Ryan’s career. You and the crew are all so talented and I know you could pull off an amazing feature. I’ve been watching you for years and when I see one of your films in a movie theater is going to be one of the most inspirational things ever. Good luck!
Caden Koehl me too lol , my family watching it on a movie night... Ryan really talented at film making and I learned so much from mine and more . I love this dude ❣️
After following your work for about 8 years now, the idea of a feature made me feel proud and excited, your work its amazing. Keep going Ry Ry. BTW sell your short, at least for a month, $2.99 make some cash and then release it to the public. I wouldn't mind to pay, because I know it will be amazing!
Been with you for a lot of years (almost 6 years i believe), and hearing you say "hopefully my first feature" just gave me this HUGE rush of joy. I'm about to graduate college and i'm going down the same career path as you, and even though im a few years behind you, seeing you get to this point really reinvigorates me and gets me so excited for the next few years. Good luck Ryan and can't wait for the film!
Okay guys, when the film comes out, you must share it with: Your Mom, Your Dad, Your Grandma, Your Grandpa, Your Brother, Your Sister, Your 1st, 2nd, 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th 9th and 10th cousins, Your Dog, Your Cat, EVEN YOUR FISH!!!!!!! Yes. You must also show it to your fish.
For years I always thought about what I would say when I met Ryan. Usually it was giving him a film pitch idea. But when I finally met him a few months ago I actually had nothing to say except thank you. I have nothing but gratitude for him because of all the value he’s brought to my film life. If you love film as well I encourage you to never be the one who knows the most in a film set.
So happy for this whole new path you are taking! Thanks so much for all you've done and tought us. I hope you'll be able to film the feature asap. You guys are one of my biggest inspiration so i m happy for ya
@@filmriot It's raw and unedited format comes across great, it's like a sit down interview with you but you determine the narrative of it. I'm sure it's easier to produce too. Loved it hope to see more!
Will be watching, (hopefully) liking and definitely sharing the short when it comes out. I hope there'll be a video of how the money was raised and how much it cost to make this short... seems like it was expensive with the "Hollywood" level production. Good luck getting the feature made buddy!
Great content as usual. I watched the "Wandering Soul" short film. It was fantastic. That it's based on a real world project makes it even more impressive.
Thank you for everything, Ryan. I'm a big fan and I can proudly say that most of what I have learned about movie-making lately has been from watching Film Riot on a loop. :) This particular episode was really great for me as I finally attempted writing and directing a short film. While doing the post mortem for that and prepping for the second one, your points in this video really resonated. Thanks again for this and look forward to more great content in the future. -- m
Hey, Ryan. Don't know if you'll received this msg or not, but if so I like to have your honest opinion on the question I'm about to ask, I'm working on a short mini-series down the line that is a spin-off to my favorite Legend of Zelda Game: Majora's Mask. In it Majora, after being awoken by a mysterious character, is plan to destroy the foundation of a small country known as Syuou. And the only two people who can stop him are two abnormal warriors: A cryrogentic Hunter, Van. And a half-breed Fairy Goddess, Selena. I've written the outline to all five episodes and so far they've turned out pretty good, but as I reached the last few episodes I begin to look back on them and came to a stunning realisation: none of really make any since. The title of the series is called Majora's wake but as the antagonist isn't really Majora but a rogue assassin who's waring Marjora and using his abilities just to seek vengence against the people who betrayed him. It sounded well written in my head but as I was writing it down on paper, none of it made any since. (Sigh) my question is: should I continue with the same story or should rewrite it?
i don't care how much of a fanboy i'm going to appear in saying this - i have a lot of love for what ryan, the rest of the family & triune are doing currently. it all ticks so many boxes for me. something that struck me is that the more [vocal & statistically quantifiable] support that can be expressed for the team, the more they stand a chance of securing business on higher levels. this could happen. it needs to.
Thanks so much man! Can’t tell you how much I appreciate it. Hopefully I’ll be doing videos about what it’s like to make a feature before long. All fingers and toes crossed.
