I would have expected us to keep the left-hand track at the fork: not crossing under the Sprinter, not waiting for it, and cross to the right at Weesp just after the platforms. - Was that track out of service for whatever reason?

It is indeed true that the left-hand track was out of use. The succession of trains as shown in this video is normal, but unfortunately this resulted in traffic jams.
