Portsmouth - Ryde Isle of Wight hovercraft vs Wightlink Fastcat ferry review

- The hovercraft between Portsmouth and Ryde at the Isle of Wight is a unique way of transportation. But is it the best? Or is the FastCat operated by WightLink ferries a better way of transportation between Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight?
There's only one way to find out and that's to travel on both ways of transportation

I spent several hours researching Wightlink's sustainability efforts, found them lacking, and will use the hoovercraft from now on even though it is more expensive.
Only joking!
Seriously I still find the hoovercraft more fun, never gets boring, and there are times when it is more convenient and, oddly enough, when bought with a train ticket, cheaper.
Great video by the way.
Nice to see you in the UK, I love the Hover craft , hope you enjoyed your trip
Thanks, yes I really liked it. However the Isle of Wight is a kind of busy during Easter haha, lots of ancle biters at some spots 😄.
Portsmouth Harbour is the better station to get off. The walk then takes you along the seafront and through Old Portsmouth. It's a nicer walk.
Quick answer
Fast cat
You get a train ride after
Hovercraft
It’s something from Star Wars
Hahahahaha
(Am learning Dutch so absolutely you would have many comments on my pronunciation) but I love “hoovercraft”, makes it sound like you are riding a giant branded vacuum cleaner!
Also my comment got messed up, hovercraft rock would be a “slipway” or “launch”, short for boat launch (any gentle hill that lets you put a boat in the water)
Also also, weirdly enough for short distances a hovercraft is far more fuel efficient than a ferry (assuming both powered by petroleum products), the key difference is that a boat has to push literal tonnes of water out of the way as it moves. For longer distances a hovercraft could start to lose its advantage due to the impact of fuel weight, but would most likely be null for the island hoppers!
Haha my English will always be very Dutch English I guess (I'm not even trying, some other non-european accents might be easier to imitate but the easy ones, I don't like that kind of English, and no I'm not mention what English I don't like in public, Ihave many viewers from there).
Actually now you mention it, about fuel efficiency, this makes a lot of sense. Even though a ferry is really environmental friendly it's crazy to see there aren't that many hovercrafts. I mainly know that speed has a big fuel impact for boats.
Disappointed there were no eels on the hovercraft.
😆 😂
Catamaran 2*1200hp*22min/260pax =203.
Hovercraft 2*1100hp*10min/78pax =282
Thus the catamaran is abt. 30% more fuel efficient than the hovercraft with equal occupation rate. But the stretch for the catamaran is also longer, so even more efficient per km
its a hoverport
