Dear Mrs. Cindy Gay, I can't tell you how much I appreciate your craft. I want to latch-hook a Bob Ross type of paintings rug for my girlfriend. I have been looking for a clue for so long. The way you're explaining this is really amazing. May I show you my final result once it's done? Thank you so much, have a merry Christmas and a good new year.
I'd love to see the results. I've made a latch-hook rug and you will struggle to make it look like something unless you keep the strips shorter than usual. The standard long pieces of latch hook yarn will move and bend over, blurring the design. It is much easier to get details in traditional rug hooking because the loops are so much shorter and stay put.
I am a good enough artist, that I think I could paint a pattern. can I paint directly on the rug canvas with watercolor, or acrylic? leaving the paint thin enough that I can see and use the canvas holes?
@@walterkendall170 Definitely not. An iron on leaves a thick residue. When you pull up the loops the threads of the backing must move to allow the loop up and to tighten up to hold the loops tightly. The iron on would seal the backing threads in place making hooking much more difficult.

I would be sure to test the paint to see if it is acid free first. If so, try it.....
Couldn't you use a t-shirt iron on?
