Thank you for a channel focused on (metal) production on Linux! I'm looking forward to testing out amp simulation in (and around) Ardour!

can you make a video explaining a little more about Input Response. I've been meaning to get back to studying guitar (I haven't played in over 10 years) and your videos have been very helpful!

I think there are already a lot of IR videos out there and the only "Linux specific" thing you need to know, is the plugins to use to load them 🙂
But in a nutshell: Amp signal goes to cabinet and microphone in front of the cabinet records the sound that comes out. Now remove the amp and instead send a special signal to the cabinet while still recording the sound that comes out with the microphone. You'll get a recording (.wav file) which is the impulse response representing that specific cabinet, microphone, and microphone placement you had, in the room you were in. The recording (.wav file) can now be applied after any amp using impulse response loader (plugin) after the amp signal. This way you can just load whatever amp capture (e.g. NAM) and IR capture someone has made (and shared or sold to you), to reproduce different physical gear setups with professional accuracy.

    Sounds impressive!
Right now I'm seeking good amps for Ardour. I've watched you "Killer Metal Tones" and "Basics of recording guitar". Now there's one more - Neural Guitar amp.
But right now I'm a little bit out of success of getting a good sound (I'm using GxCabinet, not IR, but I believe that's not a root of a problem).
I'm thinking of buying ToneLib GFX (or ToneLib Metal).. Now it costs nearly 40$. Could you share your thought on that? Have you tried this software or may you offer something else?

IR makes a huge difference to sound so you definitely should explore those first. I haven't really used GxCabinet and I'm not sure if it's actually using IR internally or is it a hw simulation. But anyway, even different IRs produces very different sounds. I'd recommend NAM + IR, and there's something called tonehunt.org that is a great source for NAM models and IRs. If you use those right, it's indistinguishable from the real deal that was captured.

I could actually make next video specifically on installing and using NAM on Linux. Maybe I could find the time already next weekend 🙂

Como haces las conexiones carla o catia?Yo tengo Manjaro Linux y tengo Catia 😔😪😪

You must have Jack (or PipeWire) running. Carla is basically just a front-end to configure jack connection and also to load plugins to jack environment.
