One of the absolute high points of the adventure games genre! Especially the first game (for me). If you like the overall theme I suggest you try Unavowed, it is a modern PNC but with excellent story and characters
Omg, this channel is cramming out even more adventure gaming gold. I was wondering, could you make a history/analysis of detective games too? I feel like detective games are a really interesting sub-genre of adventure games, that unfortunately never really catched on. As much as I love Monkey Island and stuff, I feel like I enjoy the "puzzle" of unraveling a mystery more than I do solving abstract obsticle-puzzles.
thank you for your feedback. yes, I am also thinking as the channel progresses to dive into sub genres of the adventure games and detective games are certainly worth looking into :)
Haha I had no idea JJ claimed that she chose not to cast Tim Curry, was she really pretending like that was a financial option? I mean it's one thing to afford a voice-actor to come into the booth for a day to read some lines, but another to show up on set every day for this low budget production! (or at least I'm assuming it's low budget, I could be wrong, it might have been high budget but the limited technology of the era made it look amateurish)
well The Beast Within had a pretty big budget for an adventure game for the 90s level of videogame development. that was only a fraction of the hollywood movie budget at the time, so I guess casting Tim Curry for the actual role and not just the voice would be monumental for Sierra. the bad thing for all those interactive movies/adventure games of the time that had digitized characters is how bad they had aged. I mean, The Beast Within looks worse than a low budget tv movie today with regards to visuals. Tex Murphy is another such case, the latter Police Quests another
@@TholinGamer Indeed, I almost can't stop laughing when I see those FMV games, which is probably a bit disrespectful as they probably did everything they could at the time to make it good, but unfortunately the result just looks like someone doing an intentionally bad greenscreen video for satire
@@Niberspace I totally get what you are saying. There were a lot of "fads" in the history of video game making. Some of them are still popular today (ie pixer art) and some havent aged that well. FMVs are practically a joke today looking like cheap bmovies. What is worst for me though is those early 3D/polygon games that are almost painful to watch. Take for instance Mask of Eternity or even GK3, that old 3D is ruining them! I would gladly play an EGA Larry than one of the early 3D adventures
@@TholinGamer Agreed except lately I've actually started feeling warm feelings towards those early 3d like GK3. Sure I can't stand things like Everquest 1 environments (that's TOO early), but I feel like GK3 has a bit of charm, probably because (despite being ultra low poly) it does have lightmaps, which makes for somewhat of a mood.
Hot damn you are killing it with all these videos! Keep up the great work 😁👍
This is probably my favourite game series ever

Great Review, weird Troligy of 3 different Gamestyles: Classic Point and Click, FMV and 3D Gameplay
