For this old girl is still hanging in with the best, for the body components on the front and rear have never held up no mater of who the car manufacture was of the day. For the Holley Sniper go's a long way for this 43 year old Trans Am a long the way. For I love it and I think you do too.

These with a 400 put out between 220 to 260 hp and 320 to 350 ft lbs torque nice car dont see them anymore.
Nice car ! I used to have a 79 that was blue . Had 403 in it. If you touched the throttle before it idled to between 5-10 mph you would roast the tires. If you punched it the way you did in parking lot it would leave posi trac smoke screen for about as long as you held it to the floor. Only thing that was changed on motor was cam , 750 Holley, headers, and heads were port and polished. Just a little work and that olds motor was phenomenal.

I love the fact that they put a PONTIAC engine in there, not a Chevy like everyone else does. The only options for '81 were a 301 or a Chevy 305, so a 400 is a great upgrade---old school muscle

Inspection lol I don't have to worry about that! As long as it's road worthy it's good to go and work on as you drive it.
Hey Nick, Some of these came with factory slap shifters. Basically put it in L1, then when you want to shift to 2nd you push it towards the passenger seat at an angle towards the footwell and it should keep you from going into drive, neutral, reverse or anything else. You can tell if the shifter feels like it moves a bit from left to right but always springs back left towards the driver.

Sweet little Bird! I've owned a few TAs plus one Formula. A lot of them in these years had Olds engines, this one is a Poncho engine.
Can't wait for this one.

I would like for you all to know that if the car is over 20 years old it is an Historic car and no longer it has to go tough inspection, but you must look at the regs of the state that you live in and I hope this helps.
In Texas it’s 25 years.

Nice Trans Am with an upgraded engine. The 400 was long gone by 81 but it's still a Pontiac engine 😊. This one will sell quickly. It's gets my vote 💯

Great car, especially with a 400 swapped in. Mid to late 70's and early 80's usually used 195* t-stat. Don't know of a t-stat hotter than that. Supposedly better for emissions. Of course, you don't need to do that. 180* would be a lot better. I find that my five 70's GM cars, Pontiac, Olds, Chevrolet, including a 79 TA, run best with 180*. Of course, you can't be sure what temp t-stat is in your engine without looking. Cold Case aluminum radiator keeps my TA cool. I use an original factory 7 blade clutch fan with original fan shroud, and no problem. Are those fans blowing? 🙂
