Goddess Frida. A perfect artist with a wonderful voice, great performing capabilities, charming attitude... and that mesmerizing smile. Fantastic woman.
VERY few vocalists with such versatility, emotive interpretation, unique gorgeous timbre, range, stage presence. Only Linda Ronstadt comes to mind as similarly legendary. Brava, Brava Frida, fabulous rendition!!
Her peers have nothing but huge praise for her vocal talent since her grade school days. _______ Benny, Bjorn and Michael Tretow ABBA's engineer considered Frida a master vocalist. He said that she was "in her own league". - ABBA: Before They Became One - hour long doc by Carl Magnus Palm and two others (directors, etc...)
wow,,,she really goes from deep to high just like that..she has always been my favourite and her voice is so soothing and unique..love Abba, love Frida .
Frida is beautiful, cool, lovely, humorous, energitic, strong and talented. Frida loves any kind of music and can sing any kind of music(a little Opera).Rock!
This is an outstanding performance by Frida. The vocal range is incredible. If she had stuck to songs like this she could easily have done better in her solo career. Wow those eyes .. So sultry.
I wholeheartedly agree with you. I just saw this performance by Frida and I thought "Wow, why didn't she record songs like this instead of those boring ballads?" The albums she made just did not take advantage of her talents.
I remember an interview where Frida mentioned that she wanted to accomplish something similar to Pat Benatar's musical style, on her solo English debut... Guess this clip is another proof of her admiration.
People forget that this video was only 5 years after Dancing Queen. It was amazing that Frida was able to get some rock credit the following year with the "Something's Going On" album. No doubt her career was hindered by the ABBA tag. It's not like Frida didn't possess the passion, looks or voice for rock.
You are right I dont think she got the recognition she deserved I think she had a lot to do with wining Waterloo she has a soft special voice I always thought she was the barbie of abba tall slender and beautiful face. My favorite song from her is ONE MAN ONE WOMAN
We must acknowledge something. She is not just technic, she combines interpretation, emotion and a lot of talent. I'm amazed the she still sound extremely good in live performances, even nowadays.
Frida's background was on the stage. She was identified in grade school for her vocal talent and her keen ear. She swept all the talent hunts. She started singing vocal centric songs: classical, American vocal standards, jazz. That type of had to really refine her technical abilities. She started to move into pop until 1969, although she preferred the more challenging vocal centric songs, but pop is more lucrative. Her vocal idol: Ella Fitzgerald. She has also mentioned Ertha Kitt.
one of her BEST performances ...she should have followed this Rock Chic look and sound ...really suits her ...but she chopped off her hair and got caught up in 80's fashion ...a pity!!! love her so much ..xx
Something special with these artist when you campare them to other singer, very underrated beyond 70s, but Frida in style kept Abba contempary for a maturer audiance. Wonderful expression. Robert xx
Frida's performance range is Alto, Mezzo and Soprano. Her voice type is mezzo-soprano. She won another National Best Vocalist in 1967, which finally turned out to be her big break after a decade on stages, sweeping talent hunts, etc... She sang on National TV the evening after her big win earlier in the day. LIVE to AIR, a 3 octave, Eb3-Eb6, jazz song with improvised scat...and nailed it. This appearance started her EMI Sweden and TV show era, 1967-1972. Frida is the real deal! She Is the ABBA girl that sang everything. Bjorn Ulveras has talked about Frida's huge range and technical proficiency over the years. So has Michael B Tretow, ABBA's engineer, who called Frida's voice, "hi/fi" (high fidelity). Michael gushed over Frida's perfectly balanced vocals in a interview that can be found on UA-cam. Bjorn has said their was nothing that Frida could not sing. The other ABBA girl, Agnetha Falkskog, had limited range being a pure soprano. Agnetha also lacked Frida's technical proficiency. ABBA sang lots of unison, high pitch chorus', which Agnetha had a short travel to reach, while Frida had the longer travel. ABBA: Bright Lights Dark Shadows The Real Story of ABBA By Carl Magnus Palm Benny, Bjorn and Michael Tretow ABBA's engineer considered Frida a master vocalist as did her peers. What her ABBA/Polar Music team and her music peers say about Frida's talent is golden.
Wow. Compare this to 'En Ledig Dag' (Portofino) fourteen years earlier. Two live performances showing her versatility Jazz, Pop, Rock. Could definately have fronted a rock band, no problem at all. Looks the part, sounds the part.
Pretty good version. Frida has a unique voice for sure! I love "Something Going On" ultimately though. Pat Benatar's original version of Fire and Ice is still the rule on this song though. Frida's guitarist did lay down a pretty riffing solo! :-)
Does anyone know where this was recorded? There's a live audience sitting at dining tables? So good to see Frida in front of an audience, singing with a band, and not playback!
That is Frida's background. Live stage from age 10. Pro at 13, 1958. In ABBA during their live shows Frida carried those shows. She said tons of live stuff from her solo career. Agnetha on the other hand as very very few live stuff. She was a record label generated pop star before ABBA, not a live stage singer/performer like Frida.
Yes. This was held in the spectacular Vintertradgarden (Winter Garden) of Stockholm's Grand Hotel. The early Nobel Prize ceremonies were held in that hotel. This performance was part of four variety type shows that were screened on Swedish TV during Autumn 1981. The show was called 'Lite Grand i Orat' and Frida was one of the two hosts. A lot of the backing band had connections to ABBA. You can find various clips and full episodes of this show on UA-cam.
@@danbike9yes so true. Frida was the one with all the stage presence. Agnetha was wooden and stiff on stage actually afraid of crowds.. She couldn't dance either and Fridas a fantastic dancer.
Idem ibidem. She is "just" wonderful. I also love Pat Benatar and I can tell this cover is not less than a rare jewel, like the original Pat Benatar´s song isn't, either.
the original song is this: ua-cam.com/video/dsKCU5ll3D0/v-deo.html ,but honestly this one sung by frida is infinitely much more delicious to hear chills everything.
Before joining ABBA. Anni Frid was singing jazz...Well I think she was. Well it is alittle hard at times. When both Agnetha and Anni Frid do their own solo acts. Instead of just ABBA. Sometimes doesn't feel the same. But what is known. ABBA will never get back together. Which I wish they would just a one time reunion concert. I was hoping for it. But unfortunately. Never happened. But the girls will always be my favourite girls.
Before ABBA Anni-Frid Lyngstad was a known elite level vocalist. Her reviews since she was in grade school are all steller. She turned pro in 1958, age 13. In the 60's she moved onto more challenging stuff, she moved into jazz and classical. She even trained under an opera tenor for 2 years to refine her skills further. She is technically a perfect vocalist. Her breathing, chest/head voice, vocal chords are well coordinated. She never misses a note. Her sense of pitch is spot on. She is a confident singer and on stage performer. She knows she is excellent, not in an arrogant way, but in a positive way. ABBA had a "ringer" in Frida.
I love Frida !! She deserved to have more hits !! 💙

Frida as a Solo Artist was awesome, I wish she had recorded more English language solo albums after Shine and toured on her own.
Frida... the best !!
The way she sings the verses is just amazing

Frida ...fantástic performance😀
Georgeous also we will never see her likes again absolutely delectable and such a voice

Настоящая принцесса Анни-Фрид. Агнета нет. Как бы кто-то не хотел, она ей не стала. Анни-Фрид королева музыки и принцесса!
