I saw the video of the Lamy Safari back in 2012. When I went back to university a few weeks later I sat next to a guy who was writing with one. I did not know him and we met by me saying: "Hey I see you've got a lamy safari, that's a good fountain pen" He said he didn't knew anything about fountain pens but that he had that particular pen for as long as he could remember. Next moment I was telling him everything I remembered about the lamy safari. I think I made a impression because from that day on he thought I was like the smartest guy in class. A few weeks after that I bought me a fountain pen myself and at first I wanted to buy the safari but by accident I bought the Allstar, not noticing it untill this video came out. I'm very happy with my purchase. Greetings from Belgium godfather.
Greetings to Scotland:) I have an ancestral connection with fountain pens and because of that, I like pens, but I wouldn't say that I’m fascinated by them; after all, a pen is simply a tool. However, I'm often fascinated by the final product produced by someone skilled at using any tool to its fullest, not to mention the process by which they accomplished it. In the case of pens, a well written piece, whether music or literature, has the ability to change minds and hearts when nothing else can.
You lock the focus on any object within the viewing screen by holding you finger on it for a couple of seconds. Also, many video apps for the iPhone have a focus button built into the GUI. Thanks for watching:)
What a coincidence I'm watching this at the third anniversary when this video was uploaded! This video was uploaded on March 25th 2013 and today I'm watching this video on March 25th 2016, exactly three years.
amazing. one of the reasons i think i love this channel so much is because you sound like you just have a naturally calming tone and cadence. Too often people strain to be relaxing and in doing so defeat their purpose
At first, the video is a bit paced....however you do take your time to explain all the aspects of the pen, many reviews tend to flash thru them. I like how you explain all while you write...very descriptive. Cudos my friend you have just picked up an amazing hobby!
Yes, I finally took your advice from several weeks ago and am very pleased that I did. I love this broad italic nib and have been writing like a mad man for days. Thanks for the warning about the ink:)
Another classic and a fantastic sleep aid for me. My works pretty full on at the moment and you are the perfect destresser. If you had whispered this it would have been even better.
I recently found your site very late one evening and, of course, as many others, did drift off while watching; twas fascinating as well as so relaxing so I did re-watch the next day... and now, as Julie in 'Julie and Julia,' I must watch at least one a day for however long that may be, lol. Obviously a man of many talents/interests and I thank you for the many videos available. I, as well, love fountain pens/inks and the Baystate Blue will be a must as well as an italic nib. So thank you again for all the planes, trains, automobiles and yes, anything fountain pens. Steve :-)
Great video as always! I have a silver Lamy pen and I love it. I got it when I was at school. Everyone had those boring red, blue or yellow plasticky Lamys, but I had my silver pen! :) The color of the Al-Star is amazing. I was interested what colors Lamy offers today and I found a purple one. It's my favorite color, now I want to have one, although I'm not writing with fountain pens anymore. :D
Thanks so much for talking about these Lamys. I visited Germany for the first time when I was 12- and I thought the coolest thing was the big bright yellow Lamy I brought back with me. I went to public school (albeit in a high-income area), and there was never a culture of ink pen usage. I really enjoyed this video- thanks!
I'm glad you liked the video. The notebook I was using is from Clairefontaine. As for the two alignment pins molded into the converter; I did not realize, and I appreciate you letting me know this. As soon as I read your comment, I unscrewed the barrel and re-seated the converter, this time making sure the two small protrusions of the converter clipped into the corresponding slots of the section. You just taught an old dog a new trick:)
Being badly dyslexic I have no interest in fontain pens I use pencils so I can rub out mistakes. So its incredible I have watched your video over and over. You make any subject matter into something amazing & would be the ultimate shopping channel presenter! I hope one day you give us your life story which I think you could do without giving us to much personal info like your working career history and what you do now for a living. All the very best Andy in the UK
Ivan Rodriguez Works well in everyday use as long as you don't write small. I tend to write small, but when I use this pen/nib combo, I make an effort to write a bit larger. Thanks for watching:)
It's incredible how somebody can talk 43 minutes about 2 pens. Truly amazing and utterly calming. Is there any chance you'll do a video for us where you 'create' something? Maybe a wood carving video or the one with the logitech wheel for your son! That would be great :)
I just cannot say enough about how you get me through my work day on a daily basis in a much calmer mood. Thanks a million...oh and have I mentioned we need more videos from you? Need I remind you again that it's about us. ;) Facetiousness of course.
Ive been reading some mixed reviews on this baystate blue ink. Have you had any problems in your lamy ? clogging? plastic deformations? love your vids, thanks for your time.
+dnasplice There's a noisy few that make a big deal out of it. Some simply like to hear themselves complain a lot, it seems. Probably because they don't flush out their pens regularly enough. As long as you clean regularly and thoroughly, I wouldn't worry about it. But maybe be cautious about putting it in more expensive or vulnerable pens (the ink maker himself warns against "cheaper Chinese plastic [nibs]", although I haven't had any trouble with it in the Jinhao's).
great video as always. thanks Godfather ! That Ink ( Noodler's Baystate Blue ) is quite strong. Some people on the fountainpen network suggest not to use with old vintage pen. Do you agree?
Love your vids! ASMR + fountain pens! A nice alternative and similar price range to Lamy Safari/Al-Star is the Pilot Prera. I love that pen, so elegant, especially for a plastic pen and especially their fine nib, and it's a great price. I love how the cap feels on that one. Also love Kaweco Sport for style. Funny, I've had one of those for years, and I recently saw them being sold in kind of a hipstery shop here in SF...at a huge mark-up from the price that I've bought them online. :)
Very nice review you have here! I'm a fan of handwriting/lettering myself and I collect lovely pens of all kind. Both Lamy Al-Star and Safari seems to be quite nice, smooth, and worth the price. I'll try to find one soon. I write quite hard and my fingers always get marks from the pen I use after I write for about a class time long. So should I choose Al-Star over Safari? I do prefer to have round barrel to hold. BTW, what's the ink brand and name you used in you Safari in this Video? Thank you.
The lime green (technically "apple green" is the official name) Lamy Safari was a limited edition for 2012, they're not being made anymore so if you want one I suggest snapping one up quickly! Goulet Pens still has them in stock, I got mine from there and I love it :)
If Lamy could find a way to make the section the same material and colour as the barrel, this would be a very cool pen. The smokey section only really looks good with the Vista.
Lime green is my favourite colour, and I'm an artist who hasn't really tried working with ink pens yet.. (I know they're for writing, but ask me if I care) You're influencing me skillfully to get that Safari! ;)
i remember when someone lef a comment about "spinning knife productions" and now, it IS. or it has been for a while, i've had a break from asmr the last few months.
Ditch the Lamy ink and get a Lamy Z24 converter for your Al-Star (about $5) so that you can use any of the thousands of bottled ink. Plenty of great inks to choose from. Thanks for watching:)
You have to shake this kind of ink, because the color might have separated a bit, so if you want the color to remain the same you have to shake it, so the chemical make up that's in there has the same tint.
@chogy5765 He's been doing these for over a year and never once been on-camera. My guess is no. He won't say what his occupation is either. I'm thinking American History professor, but who knows

+David Peulen I loved that story! Thanks for sharing that and greetings to Belgium.
Greetings to Scotland:)

Your videos are ridiculously relaxing. Thank you for making them.
Great stuff GodFather. Many thanks for all the relaxing times you have fascilitated. Be well. Greetings from Canada.
Hi. I've used my iphone since day 1 of this hobby. Thank's for watching:)
Whenever I see you've made a new video it always makes me smile. Goodnight to you sir!
Man I could listen to you talk about anything. You're like my go-to asmr guy as of late. Thanks.
At first, the video is a bit paced....however you do take your time to explain all the aspects of the pen, many reviews tend to flash thru them. I like how you explain all while you write...very descriptive. Cudos my friend you have just picked up an amazing hobby!

Never thought I'd see a fountain pen AMSR video... so good!

Oh my... what beautiful hand-writing you have.
That calligraphy tip and your handwriting work well together.

AWESOME :) thank you! always happy for new videos! can't believe that the 8 mm handheld mechanical camera was so long ago..
It sure is beautiful, and the sounds of writing as well

You have such a lovely way with words! :) A true gentleman indeed
Love the noodlers art work. Keep up the great videos.
this made my mind explode with interest thanks for such great video
the ink color is beautiful and the 1.5 mm nib looks great; seems to be ready for everyday use.

When i first looked at the nib, i thought it was damaged, never would've thought they made pens like that..cool :)
Another insightful and enjoyable video.
Just bought mine in crimson, absolutely gorgeous!
I just cannot say enough about how you get me through my work day on a daily basis in a much calmer mood. Thanks a million...oh and have I mentioned we need more videos from you? Need I remind you again that it's about us. ;) Facetiousness of course.
I really like your videos and I would suggest to make one about your big pen collection, preferably whispered.
Ive been reading some mixed reviews on this baystate blue ink. Have you had any problems in your lamy ? clogging? plastic deformations?
love your vids, thanks for your time.

Here in germany, when I was in elementary school in the 80th, every pupil had to write with a founten pen. 90% had a Pelikan, the other 10% a Lami:)

You are extremely relaxing! thank you for the video :)
Keep making more videos.. They're awesome!
What version of the iPhone do you have? Your videos are so crystal clear?:)
I just checked and it played fine for me. I'm sorry you are having a problem.
Hopefully it will take care of itself and go away.

Yeah, I'm interested too, how comes you shake the ink? Is there a reason behind it?
Thanks:)
Amazing Penmenship!
Do you think that the AL Star is better than the Safari? Thanks
Lime green is my favourite colour, and I'm an artist who hasn't really tried working with ink pens yet.. (I know they're for writing, but ask me if I care)
You're influencing me skillfully to get that Safari! ;)
Aww man, my school pens used to be from Lamy. :3
Though over here in germany, the pens mostly use ink "bullets", lil bullet shaped ink containers.
it would be fascinating if you shared what it was that got you into fine writing tools.
What do you use to record your videos may I ask?
Really good and could you do some whittling?
Do you have a typewriter? I'm always intrigued of typewriting and...I guess since my generation isn't really use to seeing it anymore.
It's the exact same pen except the Al Star is aluminum and the Safari is plastic. It's all about preference.
i remember when someone lef a comment about "spinning knife productions" and now, it IS. or it has been for a while, i've had a break from asmr the last few months.
Is the video messing up for anyone else around 28:00? :( really sad because I love your videos.
If you use your iphone to record how do you change the focus?
Is there any reason why you always shake the bottle of ink before filling? :)
Sometimes the colors separate and you must shake so you get the same color
+Firminator128
Main reason is for the sound I'm sure!
Kudos for enjoying Bay State Blue. :)
kiavonne Absolutely!
FungusMossGnosis As long as you are willing to use bleach to clean out the pen after you’re done with the ink
Is it normal for the cartridges that the Al-Star comes with to be of poor quality?
I love this pen but the Lamy ink is pretty disappointing.
Ditch the Lamy ink and get a Lamy Z24 converter for your Al-Star (about $5) so that you can use any of the thousands of bottled ink. Plenty of great inks to choose from. Thanks for watching:)
what is it about pens that fascinates you so much? :) hello from Scotland! :)
"Whattya say we ink it up!"
You should do give always:) just an idea
Wow, someone else who knows how to use a vernier!
Why do you shake the ink? 21:36
You have to shake this kind of ink, because the color might have separated a bit, so if you want the color to remain the same you have to shake it, so the chemical make up that's in there has the same tint.
He just does it for the noise it makes because this is an ASMR video.
Adolf Hihi Thanks alot for the information, even though that he does it for relaxing sounds only.
yeah! boston masaTUSHETS!

I prefer a good 'ol biro myself; but I spose that doesn't make for a very good asmr vid :)
Whoops, Italic I mean. Cool vid.
i dont give a shit about pens!! but i watched the whole thing... your good your ..... realy good :) thx

:D
Will we ever see your face?
You speak like Adam West in Family Guy
adam west is an actual person. he speaks for Adam west in the show. he was the first batman...
Then why did you say, "from family guy"
Because you remind me of THAT Adam West
But it's the same adam west!
