This makes me not want to rent out any rooms in my house, despite the fact that there's a huge amount of people looking for a place to live right now. What a nightmare.
Rental fraudsters actively contribute to the housing crisis, because landlords either quit and sell their rentals or people are unwilling to rent extra rooms/basement suites in their house. The landlords who don't quit, raise their prices to make up for their losses. Everyone is hurt by this broken system - the honest tenants who can't find a place to stay at a reasonable price, and the landlords being defrauded and quitting.

This is horrible! I've seen a documentary about squatters and definitely not fair to the homeowners.
Agreed! I watched the last 2 episodes of "Worst Roommate Ever" on Netflix and it was chilling.
