Laura you have to put your family and your health first. If the air quality is poor you really should be inside as much as possible. Otherwise please use face protection especially in your ‘condition’.

It always amuses me to see people plant morning glories on purpose! I loved them as a child, but to most farmers and gardeners here in NC, they are considered a nuisance. No one here plants them, but you will see them covering fences and in gardens everywhere. I still think they are beautiful!
I love your videos. I have learned so much and am excited to try the new things I learn! I usually watch your videos at night. They provide a beautiful and peaceful end to the day. Happy gardening!

I was raised on a farm where we planted crops in what you call a a "truck patch". My dad was very particular about keeping the weeds out of his garden just like you do. Your garden brings back memories of my dad and it is so fun to see a young person love to garden like he did. You are an inspiration to a whole new generation. Your watermelon and cantaloupe patch are just what I remember as a kid.

The garden looks fantastic! I love how excited you get to see it all growing, because I am the same way! I get so excited when I see everything growing from seeds I planted! Take those dahlias x 7 acres and that is how many dahlias I grew up with! My grandfather grew dahlias for a living! He grew all varieties--dinner plate, cactus, pom-poms--but the dinner plate are my favorite. I have pictures of he and myself and the dahlias are bigger than my head! I used to follow him around the flower beds and watch him as he pinched out the little shoots so he could get those big dahlias. He showed them every year and I have boxes and boxes of blue ribbons from the winning dahlias he produced, however sadly none of the tubers are around anymore. (I have looked and looked online) His one famous dahlia was called "Refugee". It was the last tuber sent over from Holland, obtained just before the Nazi occupation., around 1940. It was a beautiful yellow dinner plate dahlia. Another one of my favorites that he developed was called "Kandy Kid"....it looked like one of those red and white round peppermint candies! Keep doing what you are doing because not only am I learning so much that I apply to my own gardening journey but I love watching yours.

So heavenly! Lovely flowers! I have a soft spot for bachelors buttons! I used some that I got out of my Grandma’s garden in my wedding bouquet and other arrangements 20 years ago. Since then I’ve always used them to reseed in my own garden. Makes heart swell up and my eyes get leaky thinking of my Grandma, she’s more like a Mom to me. 💜 Thank you for sharing so much with us! Hope you’re feeling well after being out in the smoke (I live in Nampa), it’s bad.

When I was a little girl, my PawPaw would cut the hollow squash leaf stems and make squash flutes for us to play with. These are such sweet memories for me, and I was wondering if you guys have ever done this for Benjamin (or even knew you could?). If you search UA-cam for “Zucchini Flute”, I was able to find a quick tutorial. My PawPaw would cut nicks up the stem for my fingers, so that I could truly play it like a flute. I’m afraid many of these traditions are fading away, and how wonderful it is to keep them alive by making cherished memories.
As always, your channel is a true inspiration!

A trick I learned from a horticulturist for seeds that need light to germinate, like amaranth, is to cover them with vermiculite to retain moisture. The vermiculite still allows plenty of light through but protects them from drying out as quickly.

We stir fry amaranth leaves, the green and purple with sliced garlic salt a few finely sliced onions, keeping it simple it’s delicious with plain steamed rice

I never knew there was such a thing as dark red sunflowers! I love them. Would love to start seeing more flower arranging videos especially with all the blooms that are out there.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden, Laura. Re, the Amaranth- I have found that, especially with tiny seeds that need light to germinate, it helps to thinly strew little pieces of straw over the bed. This worked wonderfully on my Gaillardia and Basket of Gold Alyssum. I'm still planting flowers, though it's mid-summer, and it's hot and dry here (high desert area) zone 5. I'm going to plant Amaranth, too, and will just lightly step on the seeds and sprinkle straw over them. Otherwise, the sun will just bake them. Enjoy all of your and your husband's work and videos. Thank you for the inspiration you bring.
