Speculation has been circulating all year about the expiring contract of Chelsea's captain Magdalena Eriksson. Today, 18 May 2023, Magdalena Eriksson announced on her social media that she will leave the club after the season. Also Chelsea on their website where they shared a video of an emotional Magda confirming her departure and telling what her time at the club has meant to her.
Magda signed for Chelsea in July 2017 and has played 6 seasons for the club. In total she has won 11 titles with Chelsea. 4 WSL titles, 4 FA Cup titles, 2 Continental Cup titles and 1 Community Shield title. Chelsea have won a total of 13 titles in their all-time history, which means that Magda has won all but 2 titles for the club. She has 1 title left to play for before she leaves.
A true club legend.

Now that the season is done and Emma gone, i can say letting magda and pernille go was a mistake. Really needed defense help with millie bright injured and really needed pernille after kerr, fischel then when it really mattered Ramirez was absent. Doesn't seem like Magda wanted to leave

Chelsea fans we better do what we do best. And when she comes back for champions league matches. We need to give her the welcome she deserves just like we do to all our other Chelsea legends. Why is she leaving Chelsea
The reason isn't stated and right now it seems like Chelsea, Emma Hayes & Magda want to keep it private. Which I respect! Maybe we'll get an answer in the future. But right now, they probably just want to enjoy her last time at the club, celebrate her and win the last title to get a good ending 🙏

Ok, we get it, you’re leaving Chelsea, that’s terrible, no need to keep repeating the same words. The question now is WHY? Are you going into another club, are you moving with or because of Pernilla? What happened!!?

I wouldn’t say that she’s leaving because of Pernille if that is the case, but for herself. All professional footballers need different things to perform at their best. Some need to have their family close to them, others don't. Pernille is a very important person for Magda, not only because she’s her partner. But also because they’ve been in each other's lives since the first day their journey as professional footballers started until today. 2012 in Linköping. Magda doesn’t demand to play in the same team as Pernille, although she prefers it because they get the best out of each other. But she wants to be in the same country/league as her.
Hypothetical: If Pernille wanted to leave Chelsea or Chelsea didn’t offer a new contract, it means that she would have to sign for Arsenal because Pernille is a Champions League player. And that's not even an option, which means she would have to sign for a club in a different country.
I can’t speak for Magda or Chelsea. What’s true or not. But as a Swede knowing how much the club means to her & also seeing this video… I think it speaks very much for itself!
