I am talking to a couple of companies and they plan to launch products to enable CCF editing in the near future ! So i can research what features are available and what advantages / disadvantages they offer now so we are all ready to make the changes when the tools are available
If you have the tool, here's the line you're looking to edit: MultiCAN-770 Remote Release Tailgate (Set to ENABLE) (Thanks for doing all these great videos, appreciate the power-draw test!)
I’m still hoping that LR allow the variable air suspension to adjust for different levels. Combine that with the remote rear door and you won’t need a curb. Excellent for camping.
Yes you could make it just tip back and to the right a little ! Also a camping mode to level the car when parked at a campsite so the roof tent is flat would be nice !
Did you see that the indicators flashed when Kate shut the rear door, this is similar to how the FL2 behaves when you open the rear door using the button.
That's Korean Simon, not Japanese. Edit: Someone had already told you. Interesting! I am now imagining all Defender owner Powerful UK customers carrying caravan levelling blocks to tilt their Defenders in supermarket carparks so that they can take advantage of this new feature! Just imagine the reaction on social media of people asking why so many Defenders are parked lob-sided! 🤣
I dont think the dealers are equipped / allowed to make these changes. My dream would be for Land Rover to have a website where you could order these upgrades for a modest fee and then they are sent over by SOTA - like I can do with our Tesla ! JLR may even be able to make a profit if they did this !
Interesting research, Simon. I have the S (2020) so not long after you got yours I think. Mine had "Assisted tailgate" as standard, which either refers to the soft close or the remote, not sure which. On mine the remote tailgate button unlocks the tailgate if the car is locked but I have to open the tailgate manually, this leaves all other doors locked and the PiviPro off. If I then shut the tailgate I get the usual beep & flash to signify car locked and alarm set. I must see if I can lock my keys inside.
Simon, thanks for your great job for this. SOTA is the only way to upgrade service for customers who want to have this feature by JLR officially but um.....
Yes indeed - I think people would be happy to pay a small fee for this upgrade - Land Rover could make money and make customers happy by offering this uprgrade officially through a website / app and then SOTA update to your car - this is what Tesla do !
Interesting stuff! On mine (with keyless entry) I can open the rear door directly with the handle (without unlocking with the fob) and it does the same - other doors don’t unlock and PiviPro doesn’t boot up etc. I guess this feature does the same thing just remotely. PS I think your friend is Korean!
Ooops on the Language identification ! - i hope they are not offended ! Interesting that the keyless works in this way... at least you can save some power !
Simon, on my HSE P400 Defender the back door can be opened without pressing anything as long as it’s the first door you open as you get to your car. So keep the fob in your pocket and gently squeeze the back door handle and it will only open the back door. It will not unlock the passenger doors. And if you shut it afterwards it locks itself. This is in the US. Hope that helps.
@@L663 nope I will be stuck in the back for all eternity. I will need that escape path for sure. Not so mention my dog who feels he should be independent. 😀😀
Hi, Don’t now where to post this question… I wonder if there is a way to configure the semi analog dashboard to show engine temp. I think it’s strange to have a terrain car not showing the engine temp. I would also like to see the oil pressure and oil temperature. Any advices?
Hi Simon, great research as usual. Your unlocking of the feature now appears to mirror what I get on my Discovery Sport (2016) with powered tailgate. A real puzzle why the feature is not a standard (the only difference is the swinging door), must be somebody in the JLR safety dept saying 'if and if and if then that might possibly have a tiny chance of potentially happening'.
My Kia has a boot only button and that's great if I need to get stuff out and it automatically locks again afterwards. Is a bit odd why LR hadn't enabled that function but then again as you've said yours is the base spec so maybe higher specced ones might have the function. Either way a good addition to have found out and got working! 👍👍👍
glad I found this video. I hate how difficult it is to open and close the rear door. I have a 2023 110. The remote doesn't work, so will I need to take to the dealership for them to enable the button??
Simon, quick question. Did you ever purchase and try installing an actuator for the rear tailgate? My thing is the door is heavy and annoying to open and close. I wish I could press a button and it would open ALL THE WAY. And then close on its own also. Most cars have this feature these days and it’s a bummer that this car does not.
Cool, even better if you could swap the door gas strut for an actuator. 1 click of button pops it open, double click opens with the actuator, once it’s open all the way another double click closes it 👍🏼
I tried enabling this setting on a 2021 110, but quicky disabled it again because: a) if youre parked on any sort of more aggressive hill, the tailgate swings fast enough to shake the car when it reaches the stops, and b) there is little if any delay between button press and door open. I have no desire for an accidental button press to mean that I've just destroyed the bumper or the hood of the car I'm parked in front of. If only there was soft open! My guess is that this is why LR did not enable the feature.
Its tricky at the moment but there will be apps available soon - hoping to get a Beta version tool soon ! The way i am doing it is not safe for normal DIY users.
Siman Does your P300 have soft close door to make this happen? I have a 2024 Defender 90. If I hit that same bottom, it unlocks the rear door, but does not open it. I have to grab the handle to open it? What pos the door open?
The boot unlock button is for unlocking the boot while leaving the rest of the car locked. For those with keyless entry this is confusing as the keyless will just unlock it when they pull the handle. You can test this by locking the car and pressing the boot button from a distance too far for the keyless to work and have someone else try to open the boot.
Yes this upgrade is less useful to those with keyless entry but i could still give you rear door exit from inside the car and also remote opening -(if you are pointing uphill or on a kerb you !)
Have you ever try to get all the best from front cameras and sensors combined with lane control, to get AutoPilot, they got the brain, software and hardware, but I believe is some minor programming needed to change this. Mine is an SE 2020 P400

This would also be useful if you just wanted to open the back for your kid to go grab something without the key. You can simply open the rear door from inside the house and when they close it it’s locked. You don’t have to go with them or give them your key.
I would think it may be a safety feature if you have your keys in your pocket or somewhere and the button for the rear tail gate gets depressed while driving could be an issue?
I will try that - i think this is disabled. The only thing could be if you lived on a hill and pressed the button by mistake the door could open and smash into something !
Possible fly in ointment.... Landrover have just removed the soft close from the rear door - My X has just arrived and I checked it yesterday at the dealer and it doesn't have soft close. I imagine you're actually operating the soft close to open the door? I do hope I'm wrong because that a nice feature...
Soft close makes no difference to the opening on the X, I’ve got one. It’s actually a waste of time tbh. Be better with a powered boot and soft close doors.
Yes as Stuart has commented this mod will work 100% the same for those without soft close. I do like softclose and will add soft close to the doors soon - and add the video !
Hi. My ‘20 first edition keeps giving me towbar not stowed warning on the pivi screen eventho I don’t have a deployable towbar installed. I was wondering what kind of software you use to make this correction via obd2

Hi Jayden - i think this could be a more common request unless Land Rover address the massive power drain when you open a door ( 10 Amps ). Most of the power drain is coming from the Pivi system - you could try removing the fuse for this - i feature this in another video. Simon, another useful thing to look for in the CCF………. I believe that in the forthcoming OTA update for Pivi Pro the “ lock on walk away” function from the 2023 Full Fat Rangie may be added to the software files but I don’t know if it will need enabling in the files or just from the settings in pivi pro. Any chance that after the next OTA update you could investigate? I don’t know if this will only work on cars with keyless entry or on all the cars.
Yes this would need to be a feature on keyless entry with the external antenna sensing - my car only has internal sensing. It is interesting and i can look in the CCF for this feature.
I’d been wondering about this button for a while. My dealer told me it should open the rear tailgate, but of course it never did. But I did notice what I think is a new addition to the user manual recently: “Taildoor: Press briefly to unlock the taildoor. If the vehicle is locked and armed, all of the other doors remain closed and the exterior alarm remains armed while the taildoor is open. Press the lock button (1) to lock the taildoor when closed.” I have the keyless entry model so can’t test this easily, but has anyone else tried this? If it works, it could be a way to get the benefits of “camping mode” without reflashing the software.
If you try this from 5M from the car you should be outside the keyless range but within the remote range. Interesting JLR say you have to press lock - that is not required - it locks as soon as you shut the door ( as long as the rest of the car is locked - and the keys are not in the car ! )
I dont think so... I wish JLR would allow these upgrades to be purchased on a website / app and make a charge then send the upgrade over the air.... this could be implemented by JLR so easily and they would make $$$
That is the stupidest thing I think I've ever seen in a vehicle! That means Land Rover installs hardware that owners can't even access or use or even know about and you know that extra useless (to 99% of buyers) hardware is not free and increases the cost of every single Defender built. I love Range Rover and Land Rover n' Jaguar. But everybody who has went out and purchased a new Defender should sue Land Rover for bloating up the cost with un-useable hardware installed without anybody knowing it.

“Taildoor: Press briefly to unlock the taildoor. If the vehicle is locked and armed, all of the other doors remain closed and the exterior alarm remains armed while the taildoor is open. Press the lock button (1) to lock the taildoor when closed.”
I have the keyless entry model so can’t test this easily, but has anyone else tried this? If it works, it could be a way to get the benefits of “camping mode” without reflashing the software.
If you try this from 5M from the car you should be outside the keyless range but within the remote range.
Interesting JLR say you have to press lock - that is not required - it locks as soon as you shut the door ( as long as the rest of the car is locked - and the keys are not in the car ! )
I wonder if I can get my dealership to do that for me ?
I dont think so... I wish JLR would allow these upgrades to be purchased on a website / app and make a charge then send the upgrade over the air.... this could be implemented by JLR so easily and they would make $$$
Boom Boom!! 💥
Greetings Arthur.... Larry Grayson reference for you to recall you times in the UK
@@L663 Yes indeed! lol
On the 2005 cars you have to pull the boot within milliseconds of pressing the remote otherwise the alarm goes off 😂
