Just a questions cuz I'm not familiar with the rules and mechanics of checkers, but doesn't any chess piece that has the ability to go to a white square basically turn invincible?
I would never think of doing something like this, interesting to watch, but I think chess would always have the advantage. The checkers have some interesting combo movements, but they are very specific situations, the normal thing is that the checkers are only pawns that move and attack diagonally while chess has pieces that attack and move in all directions.
Checkers never wins so long as chess keeps king on a wall where a checkers piece can’t capture it. Chess will either capture all checkers pieces or force a draw.
Checkers would be interesting to have as a piece included in your starting chess pieces (like maybe you replace the knights or bishops, or you play with a 10x10 board), but a whole board of them makes it next to impossible to checkmate the king, since they can stand on the other color squares.

The knight is OP, it can sit on a light square and attack dark squares hoping over pieces, maybe have the pattern changed to 2 squares in one dimension. Take out the light square bishop. I like the idea of adding them on the 3rd rank of the board on dark squares, making the opening chaotic, and then having them the ability to not only jump over friendly pieces but also check the king even if the king isnt even anywhere near the checkers piece if its positioned in a way that allows it. If they promote they essentially become sort of a side grade to the bishop.
I thought about starting with checkers on light and dark squares, the same area as the chess side. Someone also mentioned kinged checkers being able to move 1 square in any direction or just to change square-color. Also, apparently according to checkers' rules you can capture up, down, left or right -- simply that in checkers an opponent would never be on a light square. Combine these with the ability to multijump-capture and they might stand a chance.
Having the checkers player start with three solid ranks of pieces, instead of 4 ranks of dark square pieces, is the most obvious first step. From there you can add further tweaks depending on how balanced it is.
Checkers: - Can not move to white - Can not capture anything they can't jump over, while they can be captured at the same time - Are forced to capture whenever possible So good luck fighting chess pieces which have none of these restrictions.
We actually tried this last night on a whim. I figured that other people would have tried and here we are😂 we did remove so chess pieces to make the number of pieces equal
Checkers: "King me" Chess: "So it's the same type of piece as dark-tile Bishop, not a lot of versatility, but a lot of range and use-rate." Checkers: "King is the ultimate piece, no other stands close. For a while I've wanted to see just how good it is compared to your Queen, but it seems a test is hardly necessary." Chess: "Test? Is that what you call reaching my King's line? Although I suppose you did take a Pawn to get here." Checker: "For the life of me I can't understand why you Chess pieces are so difficult to admit defeat. Very well, I shall place my pieces a little longer." *some time later * Checkers: "Now take my ultimate attack, multi-hits. I've done it. His King is no more, I, Checkers have beaten this awful boardgame. Now let me put his King piece on top of one of my pieces for the memes, assuming there's anything left. What? No, that can't be." Chess: "Checkers, I went on the white tile the move before you set up your multi-hits, it's mandatory to move your King away during a Check assuming it's possible after all. Now I shall end it with this final hit and take your last piece."
Rules to make this a fair game: 1: Checkers pieces can capture vertically or horizontally. 2: Checkers pieces when promoting to king moves like a king, 1 square in any direction including cardinally. 3: Checkers pieces can kamikaze and jump off the board when capturing. 4: Checkers piece can jump off the board, land on an imaginary square, and come back onto the board while capturing another piece. 5: if the king is captured checkers win.
If you want to give checkers a leg up since chess _easily_ destroys it, you could say that checkers can jump pieces sideways and/or vertically, just as long as there's still an empty square on the other side. I'd only do it sideways, but that's just me.
Very cool concept. Earlier I tried this with myself but with a fourth row of checkers pieces and that same amount of checkers pieces on dark and light squares (32 total) vs chess without a queen. Even then checkers never stood close of a chance against chess pieces
With one minute timer it ended up being a who can move faster challenge; but the chess pieces are so much more powerful than the checker pieces it's not a battle it's a slaughter.
Well, the thing that makes it a slaughter is the fact that it's straight up impossible for the checker player to win as they cant capture on white titles, so as long as the king is moved onto a white tile the best the checker player can do is draw the game.
Combine go with checkers and add a few pieces, then edit a few rules, and suddenly it's pretty fair. I'm currently working on balancing these games against each other (along with xianqi and shogi).
White's objective is to checkmate black's king (this is the goal in chess) but there is no black's king. Black's objective is to take all white's pieces (this is the goal in checkers) but white's white bishop is invincible. The only way this game could end is when one player runs out of time. This is what actually happened.
checkers player wants to take the king and chess player wants to remove all of Black's pieces. I assume it works like that. I'm not going to pretend that's balanced though
My version of the rules say that the objective for black is to stalemate white (since a king on a white square is immortal), while white’s objective is to capture all of black’s checkers.
This sounds impossible for checkers, if you can get in a position with all on white spaces except 4 on the back line to avoid checker's kinging, then a rook can blaze down one side, round the back, and you're at a huge advantage just in numbers while knowing a piece is only in danger if you move it over to black, which you can guarantee a trade for. That said, its a cool idea and with some balance it could be fun, like the custom all knight gamemode or something. Edit: in fact because you can't take backwards unless kinged, the rook getting to the back line means it can take everything for free. Queen does the same. Literally just open up Queen, go diagonal as far as you can, then up the side and take everything.
If orthogonal jumping is added and a Checker promotes to moving like a Checker a king and jump capture in 8 directions, I found it to be about 1 point more value than a Knight or Bishop, due to ability to multijump, provided jump is a must do move. Place them in front of the Knights and move the Knights pawns up one space. Knights pawns move one space forward as their first move if they do not make a capture move.

So good luck fighting chess pieces which have none of these restrictions.
I love how is (At least) a forced draw if you let your king in a white square
Exquisite gameplay between both grandmasters. Amazing indeed, I wish for more of these type of games being played over the top tournament.

We actually tried this last night on a whim. I figured that other people would have tried and here we are😂 we did remove so chess pieces to make the number of pieces equal

This entire concept made me laugh that throat-scratchy laugh out loud once but at a good audible level.
the light squared bishop is me during group activities
2:00 You can't move your checker backwards until you have it reach the end.
I guess chess can just promote pawns whenever, too
Depends on which rules you are playing, in my country's rules you can
@@Sora_3347 Ah ok
It depends on the rules you are using for example in my country "Brazil" it can kill the piece backwards
Checkers: "King me"
Chess: "So it's the same type of piece as dark-tile Bishop, not a lot of versatility, but a lot of range and use-rate."
Checkers: "King is the ultimate piece, no other stands close. For a while I've wanted to see just how good it is compared to your Queen, but it seems a test is hardly necessary."
Chess: "Test? Is that what you call reaching my King's line? Although I suppose you did take a Pawn to get here."
Checker: "For the life of me I can't understand why you Chess pieces are so difficult to admit defeat. Very well, I shall place my pieces a little longer."
*some time later *
Checkers: "Now take my ultimate attack, multi-hits. I've done it. His King is no more, I, Checkers have beaten this awful boardgame. Now let me put his King piece on top of one of my pieces for the memes, assuming there's anything left. What? No, that can't be."
Chess: "Checkers, I went on the white tile the move before you set up your multi-hits, it's mandatory to move your King away during a Check assuming it's possible after all. Now I shall end it with this final hit and take your last piece."
This is why every one minute chess game should have an increment of at least one second.
Rules to make this a fair game:
1: Checkers pieces can capture vertically or horizontally.
Note: the word you're looking for in regards to both horizontal and vertical movement is orthogonal.
@@olivewooled1297 I am aware of the existence of the word orthogonal, unfortunately I do not care
@@lifinale based
What is the point of making it fair? The point of the whole comparison will cease to exist.
@@kingol4801This is for people who want to make it fair. If you don’t want it, then how about you do the most sensible thing: ignore it
If you want to give checkers a leg up since chess _easily_ destroys it, you could say that checkers can jump pieces sideways and/or vertically, just as long as there's still an empty square on the other side. I'd only do it sideways, but that's just me.
i just love how it is impossible for the king to be checkmated if he just stays on its staring square, or any light square
1:16 bro I died when the checkers dude did not play En Passant
Very cool concept. Earlier I tried this with myself but with a fourth row of checkers pieces and that same amount of checkers pieces on dark and light squares (32 total) vs chess without a queen. Even then checkers never stood close of a chance against chess pieces
No way doubling the pieces vs no Queen is still a lose! LOL
Да, шашки не смогут,- но смогут - Дамки(но они ходят только по чёрным, почти как шахматные слоны).🤷♂️🤔
Not me expecting an en passant after that third move 😂
With one minute timer it ended up being a who can move faster challenge; but the chess pieces are so much more powerful than the checker pieces it's not a battle it's a slaughter.
Well, the thing that makes it a slaughter is the fact that it's straight up impossible for the checker player to win as they cant capture on white titles, so as long as the king is moved onto a white tile the best the checker player can do is draw the game.
Truly one of the games of all time
"your play chess and i am playing checkers"
Impressive, you have managed to do the impossible, a proper handshake.
I remember playing checkers against a kid at my old school who was really good, I was so confused I didn't even win a single game.
This feels like a fever dream...
Да, именно этого мне не хватало в час ночи
We should never forget the Great Chessadion- Checkerian war.
Truly a deadly war.
This is how I imagine it would feel like for two alien species to fight a war upon first contact.
someone did checkers vs chess but the checkers can go on light squares and can loop over to prevent the king from just staying on a light square
That was so fast bro, good work to both of you
Это гениально, каждая из сторон имеет свои преимущества и недостатки
No, the chess pieces have a huge advantage if they go in white squares.
I see this as a legit way to simulate a zombie apocalypse in chess
Alonso (Denzel Washington) in Training Day: "This is chess, it aint checkers".
It kills me that this doesn't end with the checker player saying "king me" and the chess player putting the king'ed checker into checkmate
Combine go with checkers and add a few pieces, then edit a few rules, and suddenly it's pretty fair. I'm currently working on balancing these games against each other (along with xianqi and shogi).
From what I understand playing shogi, shogi is like chess but you can resurrect pieces
@@novarender_ shogi is like chess but 10x more confusing
Someone already tried balancing Shogi & XiangQi so it can fight Fabulous FIDEs (Chess)

Wow! Chess modding community is insane!
its like tons of pawn-bishops against chess

If you ever feel useless, just remember the white bishop in chess vs checkers
1:43 That move from the chess player was wrong. You can't beat checker when another stands behind it.
suggestion: fill the first 2 or 3 rows, both white and black, to alleviate issues concerning pieces on the opposite colour
The white bishop casually reading a book as war rages on around him.
0:15 They missed en passant (◞ ‸ ◟ㆀ)
Now thats what i call " FUCKING GENIUS ! "
''You're playing checker while im playing chess''
If orthogonal jumping is added and a Checker promotes to moving like a Checker a king and jump capture in 8 directions, I found it to be about 1 point more value than a Knight or Bishop, due to ability to multijump, provided jump is a must do move. Place them in front of the Knights and move the Knights pawns up one space. Knights pawns move one space forward as their first move if they do not make a capture move.
But, it's *not* "to be added," else it fails to be a rule of checkers.
What is truly sad is when you actually beat someone at chesckers playing as the checkers pieces
