  • The RBS-70 missile operates like a precision hunter in the sky, locking onto its target by tracking a laser beam for pinpoint accuracy. Even in the presence of electronic interference, it can adeptly navigate to strike its intended mark. It has long been celebrated for its ability to operate effectively in challenging electronic warfare environments. This, at least, is what has been advertised. The current claim that RBS-70 effortlessly downed 5 Russian KA-52 helicopters adds to the intrigue. The question at hand, however, is Saab's claims about the RBS-70's effectiveness in countering Russian jamming systems true or merely a nonsense? Let's explore the facts and evaluate whether the RBS-70's reputation stands up to scrutiny!

    The Starstreak is also a laser beam riding missile and is thus unjammable.

    They have shot down Russian aircraft with every system they have used. However with Russia shooting down their own aircraft constantly, Ukraine probably doesn’t need them 😂

      I remembered what the dutchman of the 41st mechanized brigade said that western training is designed "with a weaker enemy in mind" as NATO forces usually outgun their enemies. Their instructor often used examples of NATO operations in the middle east. They say they have never experienced a war with Russia , that's why ukraine's counteroffensive stalled not just stalled but failed !
      His statement is very honest and 100% accurate ! 😆😂

    It is human guided hence not effected by electronic jamming but has limited range but it is significantly greater than the other man pads that were being used hence pilots ignored laser detection thinking they were out of range. They learned hence the reason why early success for the system was not repeated.

      Pretty sure the sweep isn't picked up by the warning-systems. We've seen similar footage with stugna-P which uses a similar system.

    "It's better to have and not need than to need and not have," goes the saying. In these times of plenty, Ukraine is probably attempting to acquire as many weapons as possible. Since SAAB is at the forefront of military technology and is tasked with defending about twelve million Swedes in times of conflict, I doubt that their gear lacks the cutting-edge innovation required to achieve battlefield superiority-as demonstrated by previous military drills against more formidable opponents.

      @CoalFromITguy 4 місяці тому

      What do you mean: more formidable opponents? Are you saying that russians are not formidable opponents? The problem with this man-portable air defense system is that there are not as many of them produced as, for example, Stingers or Eagle-2, so no one can provide many of them.

    I was a gunner for one of these things when I served in the Royal Corp of Artillery in the Australian army. The clips is correct, they cannot be jammed. The problem is they are only short ranged, you still have to find the target and it’s a good ambush weapon

      You are behind the harsh realities
      Currently, the main Russian system that deliver main damage to the Ukrainian army is the 1500kg gliding high-precision aerial bomb. Range 100km. About 50-100 such bombs (including smaller ones) are used per day, according to open Ukrainian data
      RBS70 has a range of approximately 8km, making this system useless

  • @JMA5566
    @JMA5566 7 місяців тому +1

    The reason why Ukraine requested newer versions of RBS70 was mainly due to range. The Russians learned quickly how to operate beyond the range which is about 7km.

    @militarytv how do you jam it? Jamming it means you need to send a signal between the missile and the launcher. Is it the best system or even a good system in this war, probably not. For area defence a good system for close in defence, with the full Geraff radar system.

    Typical AI video that contradicts and repeats itself over and over.
    The only complaints the Ukranians have with the RBS-780 is that too few Bolide missiles where donated as the Russian helicopters don't come close enough for the older missiles.

    It had some problems with jamming during the war that saab is working on to fix now but Ukraine had good use of it and asks for more bolide missiles so it sounds like the klassic problem with the sword and the sheild.

    Rb70 don't go for heat, so flares don't effect it, the only way to disturbed the laser is to be behind the missile, unless you have troops with simular laser sending it to the same area it will not affect it. The radar system that came with the Rb 70 are a bit outdated now days, unless you buy the newer versions. But Ukraine use a different way of targeting. Is the system perfect for Ukraines needs, guessbit dont work for everything, but it works for area denial localy

  • @georgedolidze2680

    "if the RBS 70 is truly effective why do they request for other systems?" 🤨 Because they need more manpads. Logically 😉

    They run out of the MK II missiles that has range of approximately 8 km, they only got MK I which has a 5-6 km range and the pilots learned to fly just out of range from the MK I. Thats what a guy said that has shoot down atleast one helicopter in an intervju. Perhaps there are other areas that has the same problem.

    In the video the commentator asks why Ukraine is asking for more support. The commentator in the video also suggests that the reason is low system performance. The answer is that Sweden provided only a few (number is classified) systems to Ukraine. Ukraine quickly used up all the provided robots...

    That's a little presumptive to think the RBS-70 isn't effective based off of "word of mouth" & SAAB's whole reputation is at stake don't you think? Seems a lot of your videos lately are biased against NATO countries...seems a bit odd

      OR, they’re evaluating those claims by examining the facts, as opposed to taking a manufacturer’s claims at face value, who clearly have a vested interest in boasting…🤷🏼‍♂️ Nothing wrong with examining the facts, so we can draw our own conclusions!

    "Standard laser disturbers?"... behind Ukrainian lines then? Or someone is talking out of their ass and don't understand how those kind of beamriders work. The system is doing exactly what it was designed for, hence the success and downed russian helos.

    Laser beam riding systems might be unjammable. But, they are NOT fire-and-forget. You need to stay put and KEEP the laser on the target until it's hit. You are a sitting duck. I would much prefer to dive into some hole.

      Your shot will reach the target before anything the target can fire reaches you, and that is if they even think of shooting back fast enough to get a lock.
