I started irl drifting. Then hopped on sim. Once I learned to sim drift it improved my irl drifting more then I could have imagined.

There’s a lot of variables in sim drifting a lot of the car models arnt like they would be in real life like there close but you have to know how to tune each mod

Matt the ginge is living proof that sim can make you a killer drifter right off rip. Or that guy that won edc and drove pioter's pro car like he's been doing it for his whole life..

Have both, started on sim. Real life is easier in more ways than the sim. In real life it's easier to tell what's going on with the car, but also over stimulating with smells and sounds. On the sims it's calm and you don't get hurt, in real your adrenaline is super high. Real life is a pain to setup/use and then load back up/ tear down put away. But the sim is just sit down turn every thing on, drift ANY track, ANY car, tune ANY way you want for ANY amount of time and then just get up and go back to life. Sometimes I feel like the sim is more fun.

I started with sim drifting. I want to do it in real life and never have. I really want to see how it translates.

It translates well in my opinion. You’ll have to adapt to actually having more senses though, like feeling the level of grip and inertia movements etc but you can get a really solid fundamental understanding from a sim without the consequences of wrecking your ride etc. good luck.

“If you’re not going where you’re looking you’re going wherever”….
No you had it right before… you go where you’re looking… so that’s exactly where you’ll go not “wherever”.

If you suck at the sim you ain’t good in real life either. Real life is easier than the sim. Pro drivers talk about that all the time.

not necessarily true. It sounds right in theory but learning irl poses its own unique challenges that are completely separate from sim. In real life you have outside factors like money, time and track availability that often have a significant effect on how far you develop as a driver. In sim you can run an infinite amount of laps on any track, in any car at any time of day and so the possibilities for development are literally endless. These are things people don't take into account when assessing sim vs real world.
While it may be easier to drift irl in a direct sense just saying "real life is easier than sim" doesn't necessary paint the whole picture.

Nope that's not true at all. And the reason a pro driver struggles in the Sim is because it's not the same as real life

@@transient442 you take what you've learned and understood from the limitations in the sim and apply that to the real world, to then further understand what the true limitation of a car are. As opposed to knowing how a car feels and reacts in the real world and trying to apply that knowledge in the sim. Why pro drivers aren't quick is because sims weren't what they are today back then.
I'm not saying its "easier" in the real world. Don't take my words at full value. You are right with the limitations you've described... but that's also why pro drivers mainly practice in $100k+ simulators to then go and apply that in the real world.
Sim to Real world application is the only way to be quick today.

i always felt me being pulled into the seat or just in any direction helped alot and its missing in sim unless you have that one setup that tilts and i always feel exactly how big my car is and the tires like the video said so i dont agree

@@SiQuemaCuhh a lot of pro drivers are in the AC community and i can tell you right now no one in FD has a $100k sim rig, that's just not a thing in drifting at this point. All of those guys are using standard consumer grade direct drive wheels that cost no more than a couple thousand dollars.
