- A DIY auto mechanic describes must-have tips for replacing a camshaft position sensor on 2001-2006 LEXUS LS430 4.3-liter vehicles.
The most common signs of a faulty cam position sensor are a rough idle, hard start, stalling, backfire, engine timing issues, and check engine light codes P1340 - P1341.

Brother,
I watched several of your videos, what I noticed is that you explained to us how to do the jobs but you don't actually do them live. Remember we watched UA-cam videos so we can see how the jobs are done properly. I hope you can put some hands on.
Sounds fair. Send me a specific comment, and I'll do my best to provide the details needed to get you to the next step. I get many emails asking comments, and I do my best to provide the level of detail needed to get DIYers to the next step.
I am an owner of 2002 LS430 from South Korea!
This car was originally owned by my grandfather and my father.
Now, it is mine and it has 210k mileage.
I am hoping to run it until 350k.
Thank you for the video!
Very cool!
I recently got a waterpump and timing kit done on my 2001 ls430 and I’m getting codes for camshaft sensor ? Could this have anything to do with it
How long has it been since the timing kit was changed? Was the camshaft code present before the kit was installed? What's the vehicle mileage? Have you tried to reset the ECU by disconnecting the negative cable on the battery for 1-2 minutes?
Great question!
@@protipsplus Hello! The P1340 error has been haunting me since purchasing a 2004 LS430. I have replaced the timing belt, camshaft position sensor, VVTi clutch on the side of this sensor, but the error remains. Help, please, in my country no one knows how to solve this problem. May I have your email address so I can describe the problem in more detail and chat about it?

I know this is kind of out of the context, but I might need you expertise to narrow down a noise I'm having. I'm getting a rattling noise and I can hear it slightly when cruising at 1500 RPM, and it seems to increase with the RPM. Sounds like its coming from the engine somewhere, and not underneath the car. But there is nothing on idle, only when driving.
This guy gets the same noise upon acceleration, and I've seen a few other pre-facelift models with the same noise. It doesn't seem to affect the facelift models.
Do you have any idea what it could be, watch closely at 6:03 there is a rattle/ringing noise behind the engine growl?

You likely have a fuel predetonation issue. I've had an intermittent issue with predestination that produces rattling/engine knocking, which is accompanied by a VSC CEL. I live in CA and have to deal with summer and winter fuel blends. I deal with the issue in two ways. 1. Buy premium fuel at branded Shell or Chevron stations or 2. Buy premium Costco fuel and add 4 ounces of Marvel Mystery oil to each ~20 gallons. Hope this helps.
@@protipsplus Thank you for the reply. I haven't encountered any VSC on this issue though.
I live in Denmark, so I suppose the petrol here could be different. Will have to try with premium fuel.
I've thought about adding some Chevron Techron fuel cleaner, and see, if that would help.
Do you think the Marvel Mystery cleaner is a better choice?
@ThePerfectionOfLexus Yes, MMO cleans and lubricates.
@ThePerfectionOfLexus if you review your owners manual you will see that premium fuel is required due to its a high compression engine.
@@kmann1430 Unfortunately, the owners manual in my region doesn’t state anything about using premium. But I’ve since changed to premium, but still have pinging. I’ve owned the car for a year now, and I believe the previous owners only used regular. This might have damaged something, since switching to premium didn’t help. I’ve replaced the engine coolant sensor with no changes either. Read about a possible fault with this sensor being the culprit for pinging.
