One point i never see get brought up is the fact that you dont have to put it back on a cradle to change the weights. I will often do a drop set with my power blocks and can just put them on the floor, change the weight and keep going. Underrated advantage of powerblocks. Nice review!
I just posted something similar and saw your comment after. Agree 100%. I say this as a noubell fan that it is a bit of a process to return it to the cradle before switching it up again.
I had powerblocks previously and am working with some Nuobell knockoffs now - not having to go back to the cradle is a great benefit for drop sets - used to do that all the time. Also, the Noubell knockoffs are very tough to put back in the cradle properly with one hand - I constantly have to re-adjust - as opposed to the powerblocks which generally went back into the weight stack properly
i love my classic 50s but i need more weight for alot of exercises, might have add these to the collection
That was the deciding factor for me, I didn't want a broken cradle to make my dumbbells useless and I just wanted to put them where I need them. That and all of the adjustable mechanisms on other quick adjust dumbbells are too complex and will break.
The only thing keeping me from buying these is it just it looks so awkward, is it not weird at all literally being shaped like a brick?
I have had my 90lb power block set for 20 years this year. Still going strong. Great thing is if you actually broke off a plate you can just wield it back up.
Finally a review on the pro 100s! Pretty good review Coop. Other than the additional 10 lbs, I’m not quite swayed to upgrade to the new version. Love the 90s. They are absolute bulletproof! Also, waiting on your review on the core fitness 50 dumbbells & how it differs from the nuobells
Yes! Last year I was going to purchase the 90 pros, even had it in my shopping cart for checkout, but something told me to wait and im glad I did. Now I think im going to pull the trigger.
Great review! I’ve used the Power Blocks and Bowflex SelectTech. They’re both good but the Bowflex will eventually jam and become finicky to deal with. I didn’t mind the “cage” feel at all.
I've had the powerblock 85# pro rexan model for about 10 years now. They have held up this entire time in my home gym. My fire chief told me he had worked out with some in Ramstein Germany Air Force Base back in 2012. I recently went there and the same set was still there in this little firehouse gym. Still in use. Powerblocks for life. I want a new pair though. Would like some 100s!
Thanks for the review Coop! Pro 100 EXP Knurled Handles are coming soon! 👀🙌
I have a set of Elites (up to 90) and find them incredibly versatile. One thing I've rarely seen mentioned is that Powerblocks can be flipped upside down and then you can use the cylinder tubes as dual handles. I've been doing several exercises (e.g. overhead tricep extensions) using both hands on the cylinder tubes. It might be worthwhile pointing that out to Powerblock and having them add knurling to those cylinder tubes.
That's how I use my older powerblocks when doing a 1 DB exercise, like overhead triceps extension, or pullovers... Works very well...
I do that but it feels so awkward lol
I never realized that. I've been trying to squeeze two hands inside this while time
Powerblock instructions mention to not lift the weights by those tubes so i highly doubt they would ever add knurling to them
absolutely love my powerblocks. Fantastic for the home gym.
Im sold on these now with the barbell, EZ curl bar and kettlebell handle attachments. Fantastic
$500 difference for the commercial and it comes with extra handles, knurling, and a stand...seems like thats the deal
I have 2 pairs of powerblocks - the original Elite and the Pro Series 90. I ordered knurled handles from Average Joe innovations and they made the PROs a game changer. The original handle with the Elite version is really good- those only go up to 55 for mine but I thought that caged in handle was nice. It’s funny when you said people dont want to be caged in - squat in power rack cage! I would highly recommend the power blocks. They have been in my training studio and home gyms for many years and they are beautiful and easy to use.
Started my fitness journey last year with powerblock. Unfortunately mines is maxed at 50lb. I might have to upgrade soon. Powerblocks are a beast of equipment and is worth every penny.
Is Powerblock just the shape that is different from a adjustable dumbell
YES please do an updated adjustable dumbbell roundup!
I’ve had Nuobells for about a year and a half; had Powerblock before. Man, I LOVE Nuobell. The balance, the feel, it definitely has held up well with daily use over this past year and a half. If they came out with a 100lb adjustable, I am SOLD.
Daily use for 1.5 years is a very low bar to pass
Nuobell uses tiny plastic cam followers to move the bars in and out. It's not a matter of if they will fail, it's a matter of when. And when they do they are not serviceable, you need to buy an entire new handle. Unacceptable at that price point, IMO.
The only reason I have not gotten nuobells is this.@@plmn93
I REALLY wanted to justify the Nuobells over Powerblock but they are just way too fragile for something that's supposed to be simple and heavy. They're weights, that's all, but there are endless accounts of Nuobells failing. If I'm spending ~$800 for something that only needs to be heavy then I want it to last. Nuobells will not last.
I love Powerblocks. I've had mine or 30 plus years and still look and feel the same as when I first bought them.
Coop! I know you did a home garage update not too long ago, would love to see your new updates. Gym looking so much cleaner than a year ago! But specifically your what are your new standing lights? New wall finishes all around making a huge difference! Truly a home gym is what dreams are made of lol
Great video, thank you for the review. Have you tried the Ez curl bar and straight bar?
I think my favorite part is the kettlebell handle. I have Bells of Steel adjustable kettle bells, and even though I love them, it's a pain in the ass to change the weight because you have to disassemble the whole thing.
Thank you for this review!!
Yes! Please! An adjustable dumbell review!
Coop we definitely need an updated adjustable dumbbell roundup and please include the new Kensui Adjustabells MAX with the new metal handle and 150lb weight limit per handle! For $99 they seem like the new budget king at least if you don't mind the screw-in style with it's slightly slower adjustments.
IronMaster adjustable dumbbells were my very first home gym item. I used them in the master bedroom. Now that I have a dedicated building for my home gym, they are in the new location for anything over 50 pounds. I would love the Pepin fast series dumbbells, but they are just so expensive.
I like the idea of getting adjustables for group training at a private facility so athletes never have to leave their rack area but I'm concerned about the functional limitations and durability of adjustables. Pepin Fast up to 120 lbs seem like a solid option. I know a lot of colleges have Powerblocks. Just curious what you recommend in this scenario or if I should just stick with a traditional dumbbell set up over adjustables. Appreciate any feedback!
I purchased the EXP Pro (50lb version) as my very first piece of equipment in my new home gym. I now have added both the 2nd and 3rd stages so they are now @ 90lbs. I have also upgraded to the knurled handles which were super easy to install. I absolutely love them. I totally agree the cage design takes a bit of getting used to. I have been using them for a little over a year now and I dont even notice the cage anymore. I also can change the weight in under a second. As with most gym equipment you get much more savvy using it as time goes on. Thanks so much for the great review.
50lb EXP is the stage 1 kit...
@@MeepMeep88 you are correct, I need to change my post to stage 2 and 3. Thanks for the correction.
I have a set of the old urethanes that go up to 90. Love em. By far my favorite dumbbells.
✌✌ Old school Powerblocks back 1998 in the day were I believe 125 with the aluminum handles 130lbers.
well, its been like 5 years of me wanting to get these, today i just got their bundle, knurled grip, kettlebell handle, straight bar, and stand, saved a shit ton of money w/ the black friday sale and I also got their power bench which is nuts itself... has a damn chin up bar, like wtf.... cant wait... long time coming and i finally pulled the trigger and bought new!
I don't know when they added it but you can order these with knurled grips. Just ordered a set off of this video yesterday. Knurled Grip Pro 100 EXP.
I have the Eilte USA 90s for 5-6 years so far. Best investment ever!
Wish I could add the Kettle Bell option to the USA Elites!
Great review!
Do you have any plans on reviewing the Trulap 8592 adjustable dumbbells?
Thanks!
I love my Powerblocks. I highly recommend swapping the handles with knurled handles. I personally used Average Joe Mechanics and it completely changed the feel of the dumbbell. I highly recommend him. He has a UA-cam channel as well.
did you get the aggressive knurl ?
I believe all is his grips have the same knurl, but I would classify it as rather aggressive. I had Iron Masters before and these grips are much more aggressive than those. I got the 30mm but would do 35mms if I did it again. The 35mms weren’t an option when I ordered them.
@@jordanbergman1387 he has different levels of knurl.. light, normal, or aggressive
I'm not sure which one to get? I think I would prefer an aggressive knurl, but I also don't want it to be too sharp on my hands. I don't have a lot of experience with this
@@ActivateTrueHealthGot it. I don’t remember having a choice. The one I had is rather aggressive. If I had a choice I would go with the normal, but it’s all personal preference. Anything is a huge improvement on the standard grips that come with the set.
@@jordanbergman1387 I agree. I just got some elite exp and I HATE the fat rubber contoured grip. Really looking forward to the average Joe grips! Unfortunately I'll have to wait until Feb or March till he's back in stock
Love you Pete 💪💪
Currently have these and am buying the other stages to have them up to 100 lbs. Love them so far
Absolutely do an adjustable dumbbell roundup
I can’t wait to see a review on the new Rep Adjustable dumbbells! For anyone that’s ordered from Snode and got the AD80s, did you have a bad customer experience? It’s been a few weeks and they’re not very clear of when they should arrive
I've been using the Powerblock EXP 90lbs set for years now and they're still going strong. I also had a non-expandable 50lbs set before that, which I sold, but they're definitely long lasting dumbbells and I've enjoyed them a lot.
Thanks Coop! Can you do a review on the Titan Lever Squat machine? Looking to invest in one. Thanks
I’ve had my 90lb powerblocks for 7 years and I love them. I wish they still made the 125 add on but they discontinued them.
Bought the PowerBlock Elite (50 lbs). Been loving it.
Seeing this makes me happy I got my Urethane 90lbs Powerblocks 10 years ago. They don’t even make the same model anymore and I like them more than what they offer now. And ten years ago only costed my like 600-700 bucks. 😊
Soo, basically the same price, cause of inflation.
Great review
Updated adjustable dumbbell roundup!
Can you also look at the commercial pro 100 powerblocks? And what about other accessories like the EZ curl bar and straight bar?
I had a 50lb PB set then upgraded to Nuobells. I mostly liked the PBs. The cage was find though by spouse didn't like them. My complaint about PBs is the black on black body and selector was hard for me to see when changing weights.
I have the old pro elites and love them. My only complaint is the lack of alternative holding options. Goblets are just not a possible. But the way the handles are the middle it is sort of like the Thompson Fatbells.
when will you tell us about the Trulap 8592 Dumbbells -GEN 2?
I'm very curious.
Thanks for the reviews
I like all adjustable dumbbells for space saving but if I could cram a full set of Dumbbells in my tiny space I'd do it in a heartbeat. Until I have a bigger space I'm sticking with Power Blocks.
A new take on an OG 🔥
PowerBlock for life 💪💪💪💪💪 Simple is the best and durability is critical.
Hello sir , great video, in effect the balance with additional pins is a problem for curls or lateral raises , but for me it’s the only con.
Question please, can I buy the last stage to have 100lb on my older pro 90 ? Is it compatible? Thank you very much
I have powerblocks elite exp and I like them a lot, but yeah the other thing about the supposed 2.5" increments using the cylinder adder weights... You can't do EVERY increment. Like, you can do 15, 17.5, and 20, but you can't do 22.5, you have to jump to 25.
Hi! Thanks for this great review. I currently have the Pro 50 EXPs and have purchased the 1st stage expansion. So I can get 5-70 lbs. I also have a bunch of accessories (straight bar, curl bar, knurled grips). Would you recommend upgrading? Heart says yes, mind says it is a waste of money.
I really don't need any more weight than 70 lbs for the time being and I don't expect to need more for years. Should I upgrade or nah?
Lastly, do any of the new accessories fit the old Pro EXP? I want that sweet rotating kettlebell handle...
Love the shirt!
I have a set of the pro 32's and they are great but just not nearly enough weight. definitely going to grab the 100's
Need to do a comparison after the new REP dumbbells come out
Coop have you ever considered doing reviews on "Fettle Fitness" products or the "Body Kore" functional trainers? I was interested in those especially Body Kore for my fitness studio cuz of the versatility . Please let me know if you already made videos or plan on it ! thanks
I’d like to see a new roundup! How about with drop tests at various heights for all of them and really put them through the ringer?
Although I’ve used powerblocks for almost 10 years, I just bought the pro 90’s in august and now these came out!? I wish I would have known these before I bought them! 😢 I was going to really pissed if there was a big improvement in the balance 😂
Years ago I asked if the coated (hence quieter) Powerblocks came in the "squared-off" design (like the uncoated ones) because I didn't like the "bread-loaf" design.
Months ago on UA-cam, I saw someone using this
new Pro model, saw them sold at Hammer Strength and said "Yes!".
Wanted some ever since....
Hey, but what are the new adustables Clench has recently come out with?
Am new this past year to real internet access; been watching UA-cam only 11 or so months now ... (Wow! Information! ).
Trying to catch-up some....
Many thanks for your tests and input!
Could you review the commercial set that goes up to 175lbs?
Thanks for the great reviews.
An updated adjustable dumbbell overview would be very helpful.
I'd like to see a review of the powertec system. And the weight thing is real, that's the original reason I bought my specific set of spin locks years ago 😂
I still have the elite usa set and love it. Definitely smaller length wise at only 10lbs less. They dont have the urethane coating on the plates which add length.
I see that REP just unveiled their QuickDraw adjustable dumbells and I'm eager to hear your thoughts on them.
Those are cool. I have the iron masters 120 add on. I might buy these though in like a year or so so I can do drop sets.
I run power blocks to 90 and iron master to 120. Def a good combo.
What happened to the full review for the Core Home Fitness dumbbells? I thought Coop had mentioned in the adjustable dumbbell roundup from 5-6 months ago that was coming out soon.
Please find out if the rods that connects the 2 plates actually go through the plates under the urethane or just connected by the urethane like the original u50s and u90s. I would definitely stay away from them if the rods are only connected via urethane.
100 pounds is a nice upgrade but man, they are even more expensive now with 3 upgrades required instead of 2. Also, I wish they would open up the bottom of the handle like some old models so you can hold it easily with 2 hands as long as you are working with 60/70 pounds or less. Lastly, they should come out with a heavy handle (starting at 20 or 30 pounds) to increase the weight for the heavy lifters without having to upgrade to a super expensive niche model.
The heavy handle idea should be at the top of their to-do list! A fully enclosed, all-steel handle would be expensive, but could 20-30 lbs without making their footprint any bigger
Do the math @ $1/lbs. for iron hex.
which older models?
@@ValenciaRose. I think all of them were built like that - they added an extra piece at the bottom
I currently own a1st Gen set of power blocks and I honestly love them. I've wanted to get the upgrades to bring them to 90lbs, but I have a hard time justifying the cost of the upgrades, which is honestly my only complaint about the product.
Can you please review the TRULAP 8592 Adjustable Dumbbells specifically the gen 2 version which has some nice improvements most notably more pronounced knurling and improved internal components for less rattling? Thanks Coop.
I just got the New PowerBlock commercial pro exp 100 and they are absolutely fantastic. I prefer giving up the adder weights . It feels perfect in the hand and is a marked improvement over the U90 set I also have .
Is the handle the only difference?
@@sli1782 If you’re referring to the the U90 Handle , it’s a marked improvement . You also can upgrade your U90 with the ProEXP90 knurled handle set with out the wrist supports . That is also very nice upgrade . But unlike Coop from this review I love the new proexp100 square shape . It has smoother edges that don’t get caught on my sweat pants when lunging back to do dumbbell bench press. I also feel the commercial set without the adder weights finally feel perfectly balanced when doing curls , unlike other power blocks from the past. The adder weights are nice too so it’s a tough call . I honestly love the commercial set and the stainless steel hardware and RED NUMBERS look awesome next to my Red Rep-fitness 4000 power rack . I still have both sets as of now but probably will sell my
U90 set or give to my brother as a gift .
I like my Gungnir Dumblers personally. I didn't have to buy any extra weights and they come with a lifetime warranty. Coop did a review of them a few years ago. They're my favorite.
Don’t they dig into your legs when setting up for pressing. If you want to use your plates baadass or peppin be far better.
@@apcfitness I have a dumbbell rack that props up onto my power rack so I start from the top position. I also have end caps from ABMAT that go on the end of the dumbbells, they work quite well. Badass and Peppin are for standard plates. I only have Olympic plates. Don't want to buy standard plates just for the dumbbells.
great review Coop. Lots of details here that I never knew about. Love the way these look - not an “attractive” set for my wife but so what.
How about those NordicTracks skyrocketing to $399 after your review?UGH😞
Important note Coop ! The Pépin fast series is 100% machined steel construction, there's no cast iron.
I need these in my life.
How comfortable is the kettlebell handle attachment for two handed swigs? Is it wide enough for two hands?
I have nuobell and love it for lots of reasons. But I'm not really sure nuobell is all that much quicker when you consider the need to set it down very carefully and particularly in it's cradle before adjusting the speedy dial. I imagine with a powerblock, you can just set the thing down wherever and without a care and then adjust it fairly quickly.
Yes, pretty much what you said about powerblock
yes, but the powerblocks needs to be set on a very flat surface to be changed properly. it wont change if you put it on a bed, or couch for example
@@ActivateTrueHealth not a good example. Most people would change it on the floor or stand. No ones changing it on a bed.
The only downside to power block is the cage but it doesn't bother me
@@TonyDrecaps given my current circumstances, it affects my workout. Not a huge deal, but it's definitely not possible to change them "anywhere". Also I'm traveling next year in my van and will be working out outside mostly. I'm thinking I'll probably have some issues if the ground outside isn't perfectly level.
I've also watched other people's videos who have issues with this, because their stage isn't perfectly even, and makes them hard to adjust
@@ActivateTrueHealth I gotcha! I've had my power blocks for 14 years. Still happy with them ! I just wish I had more weight over 90 lbs
Hey, you should do a review on Walton stainless steel Olympic weight plates it took me two days to find a stainless weight plate. There’s just not very much information on them and or reviews.
Average Joe innovations, Bare Steel, and JDGym equipped all sell handles for powerblocks and all of them have great knurl. Average Joe’s are 30mm, 35mm, and 40mm (if he still sells all three). JDGym’s and Bare steel’s are 1.25” (32mm)
Like many reviewers, I have had my powerblocks for near 20 years and they still work as well as before... As for the size "issue", a 100 pound DB will be of similar size, wider if not as long, so I don't see an issue... My 50 pound powerblocks are shorter than my 60 pound DBs... And I prefer the rubber/plastic grips to the neural grips... (I know, most likely the ONLY one... 🙂)
Any opinion on the Marcy ADDB-6198 adjustable dumbbells?
Really curious if that new kettle bell handle will fit my pro 90 exp 🤔
You simply can’t beat the durability. Bought my first set in 1996 and that lasted me 20 years before i upgraded to the 90lb set. Have had the Elite USA now for like 6-7 years and still going strong. Agree that there should be the option for knurled or stock handle. Just doesn’t make sense the knurled handle isn’t an option
It is an option now, just ordered a set with knurled handles today.
Thanks Coop! I have a pair of powerblocks and ironmasters. I love them both but the ironmasters win out for me every time because we can get up to 160lbs. Powerblock needs to get that expansion up to 150lbs each and they would be my go to dumbbells; but until then, ironmaster all the way. If you guys know of a better adjustable than ironmaster with up to 150-160 of weight per dumbbell, let me know!
With the heavy handle kits the Ironmasrters go to 180 lbs. each.. The only other I know of is the Powerblock commercial series at 175 lbs each.. Unless you’re using plate loaded like Rogue db-15 with 10 lb plates then it’s 200 lbs each.
@@nuclearchef-san8304 thank you. I
@@cclark5051 I just checked the prices.. The Ironmaster upgraded to 180lb each will cost $1814/pair(360lbs). The Powerblock commercial series $2238/pair -rogue website..(350lb) Oops the iron master upgrade to 180 lbs each is only $1655.. I miscalculated the $ 159 heavy handle add on it is 159 for the extra 15 lbs for both ..Price breakdown for Iron master. $698 for the 75 lb each, 399 for the add on kit to 120lbs each ,399 for the add on at 165 lbs each and 159 for the heavy handle kit 180lbs each. $1655 for the pair not including tax or any shipping fee..And it’s much more outside of the USA.. I’m from Tokyo,Japan ..when I bought my IronMasters the were even cheaper on price, minus tax, and shipping! These 180lbs each upgrade are what I have. And from rogue the Powerblock commercial series 175 lbs each are currently $2238 for the pair USA.. minus tax or shipping. My advice is if you want the heaviest ,then upgrade your Ironmaster set. It’s overall much cheaper. Especially if you are buying them new at current prices!
@@cclark5051 Rogue db-15 with OSO collars and 18 plates of 10 lb each steel calibrated rogue plates will run you $2110 per pair at 200 lbs each.. Soo yes, still iron master 180 lbs each at $1655/per pair current pricing is best deal, per the weight.. If you need more than that you are a bigger monster than me,Gojira/Godzilla-class! 😂
I originally bought 50lb powerblocks that were on sale. At one point I wanted to upgrade them to 80lbs.... but it turns out that the power block set I bought (sport) is not upgradable... so I bought nuobells and I'll never go back. My friend also has nuobells, and he broke one of his and had to buy a replacement.... (he dropped from incline bench height about 42") but the superior quality is worth the inferior durability in my opinion
Should i get the new "100" series or rather the older pro series of these things? The old ones are getting cheaper ofcourse and i cant see that much of a difference between them and the new ones....
Does this specific powerblock work with mad spotters?
For me, a guy who always used fixed dumbbells in a home gym of my Dad's friend, I dont see how people like Powerblocks. They would be like lifting with tree stumps on the ends of my hands, although I always say "to each his/her own" and I believe that so I think the Powerblock people will really enjoy this new adj. Dumbbell. However, why in the world would they put a rubber grip on them. As much as Coop speaks about knurled grips, seems they might've dropped the ball thete.
I went PowerBlocks mainly because they have a rubber coating. I don't have a dedicated home gym with rubber mats and just work out in my office, which has wood floors, and most other adjustable dumbbells have sharp metal edges that would dent and scratch my wood floors when I set them down.
I newd a 100lbs set but im waiting to see what Rep fitness come up with first before i choose one or the other
i like that kettlebell shirt. would like a hoody or long sleeve like that
The commercial version doesn't have adder weights, so it's better balanced!! Plus both the heavier and the lighter weighted handles are more open underneath, because they doesn't have the cylinders where you normally put the adder weights in.
Question I've seen on Amazon powerblock elite exp and powerblock exp and they cost almost the same when you add stage 3 it's around 700-800 dollars which one would you get
I love power blocks. I was worried they'd be cheap but theyre amazing.
I wish they were cheap, they're too expensive
@avinashtyagi2 I got the power blocks elite because they were a little cheaper
Do they not make the models that go up to 175 anymore? I still have the 125 pair.
I knew this review was imminent - happy to see it! But....why weren't we educated on the Hammer Strength version a year ago? I had no idea that existed.
Since Powerblock only recently started offering knurled handles for other models and EXP was already developed, it makes sense that they don't yet have a knurled offering of that diameter. I'll enjoy my knurled Elites until they do when I may consider them. Speaking of the Elite model, would have been great to see a side by side in person for size comparison. Compatibility with existing Powerblock stands is questionable as well. Seems like they fit, but will overhang a bit. You noted they were "large" but provided no measured dimensions, which would be great for length at least. The site says 19.2" which I assume is for 100 lbs. This makes them 3" longer than 90 Elites, and results on large compact stand overhang of 2.5 inches.
I hope they add the 5lb cylinder of some heavy metal _inside_ the main middle grip so the weight is not offset...
Does it immediately come in with 100lbs or do I have to buy all of the expansion kits to get it to a 100lbs?
powerblocks gang RISE UP
I would love to see some actually swing the kettlebell. Seems cool to have a handle, but swinign a block would be so weird, and at heavier weights might even hit the ground. Am I crazy?
