Helpful hint with glyphosate. Don't use pond water or stream water when mixing. Glyphosate is neutralized or weakened once mixed with the chemical compounds in the soil, which is found in pond or stream water. Don't know how or why, but I have run into this issue in the past. Tap water with the surfactants mentioned.

Thanks John! looking forward to the calibration video. I think that I am pretty close with the nozzles that I have. Sprayed my second spraying of Gly and 2-4d. hope to plant my switch and HD screen Next week.

Imox kills both grasses and broadleaf weeds as long as you get them early. I've been using it for about 5 years, and if applied when weeds are small it will take the place of using Clethodim. Also, here in Southern Michigan I have found that if you don't use AMS with every chemical, the hard well water will greatly diminish the effect...something about the chemical bonding with the minerals in the water that can render it ineffective. I add a product called Nitro-Surf with Imox, which doubles for both AMS and surfactant. One last point on Imox is that it is very slow acting, so it is very easy to spray it, see no results for a couple weeks, think the spray didn't take, and then unnecessarily spray again. Give it about 4-6 weeks for the results to show.

I've heard that the US version of Gly has a surfactant that is toxic to bees when applied directly. The Euro version is formulated differently and is considered more bee safe and this would be appealing especially when terminating buckwheat. Any word on getting this euro formulation?

Is there a fertilizer that you spray on your switch grass to help it? I know farmers raise it they fertilize it after the 3 rd year

In my RC switchgrass mowing is working well to control competing grasses but have some areas with broadleafs affecting the switch. Hunting property is in UP but I live out of state and can’t get there until Memorial Day. Thoughts on using 2,4-D to control broadleafs?

Where can you buy liquid simazine in Michigan, and what is the glyphosate amount for a 4gallon backpack sprayer? Thanks

We use Keystone pest solutions for Simazine.
Gly is quarts per acre . It depends on how much you spray per tank

After a forestry mulcher clears switchgrass screening and food plot area, any concerns with spraying entire area wit sizamine before spring green-up? Didn't know if the sizamine in future food plot is an issue/concern. Thank you!

If it says that then you should be good, but also it’s not going to hurt by adding some of the ammonium sulfate replacement to every tank of herbicide will still be beneficial. Hard to say across the board becuase the water varies across the state and country. If you notice you don’t have a great kill on the weeds pre plant then I would say add it in the tank next time

No, it’s best if you don’t. Spraying small amounts of gly will create roundup resistant weeds so only use the rates on the labels so you don’t end up with headaches down the road

Normally I only use the 24d if there is some harder to kill weeds in the plot. If you spray gly and then notice sone green still in the plot after that then we could utilize the 24d, but if not then save the money and skip it

@@chadoverkamp9407 with the weather I’m having I may do the same. Simazine and atrazine stay in the ground for estimated 30-60 days from what I’ve read so for me I’m likely 30 days out from soil and overnight temperatures being the required 65 for seeding. Had I tilled last month before my fields turned to mud then I would have absolutely put the pre emergent on. Now I’m doubtful. I haven’t seen John Komp address this issue of timing.

I do not use chemicals on my food plots! I have nothing against anyone who does! Just have not needed them to grow quality food plots! Yes I own a tractor and rototiller! People here in my state of Vermont frown on Chemicals! I am sure they work wonderfully but my neighbors and I do not use them!
