2 Mile at Bidwell many memories there! Chico!!!
Please do the brushless conversion! I'd love to see this on 3s brushless ripping across the water! Thanks Brad at Amain hobbies! Pitted so pitted! Lol.
What would it take to go on 3s? What motor would fit in your opinion?
"It left us wanting more....
.
.
.........So we thru in a Max6 esc, Leopard motor, Killmode ripple killer cap pack, and 27t Tekno pinion. Bro, this got shredded, like so pitted! Whoa!!!😂😂😂
Fantastic review Brett and friends. Very well done. Interesting clip of that 'special needs' surfer at the end.
super great video, finally someone shows that it straightens itself up again. And nicely shown that you can also use a 2S lipo. Warm greetings from Germany.
quick question is the jumper for 2S lipos at ?
Hi and thanks! For the battery, 2S is the limit for LiPo use.
-Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies thanks for the quick reply, what do I need for the lipo mode?is the part included?
@@tantebuggabugga You don't need anything. You will only need to move the jumper on the ESC unit, which activates the LiPo low-voltage cutoff. At about 2:20 in the video, moving the jumper is demonstrated.
Have fun!
-Brett
Wow, you guys really got on that surfer video! That was awesome. I foresee surfer racing in a future video. 😉
Best review of this product I've seen. Definitely not on my list of "to get" but looks cool & massive 👍👍👍 for your review
Laughed so hard at so pitted! Awesome.
Sweet mate, cheers
I've always wanted one of this surfers
Love yours videos!!
Time for a road trip to the beach !!!!
That was in describing his Police chase on the way there! lol
Brett surf's just like you buddy:)
How cool is that👌
It looks great. Could Kyosho produce the same model but twice as big? That would be even better. It could have a much bigger battery and probably go even faster.
My next purchase from AMain.
I just received the Catch Surfer 4 and I bought updated batteries and charger via your links, so thank you. Question: what transmitter and controller is compatible? The one they sent the trigger is broken off. I’m sure they’ll replace it but in the meantime I want to use this bad boy. Help! lol
One mile pool😂🤣
We used to go swim there after the bar closed.
wow noce scale rc good 👍👍
good review
Love your videos. Just picked up a K surfer today. Do you think it's safe for taking in the ocean? Sometimes here in Central Florida in the mornings the waves are super tiny. Perfect for a scale look. I'm just a little worried with the salt water getting in. Was yours dry inside after using it?
Yeah, it's safe for the ocean. You'll need to rinse it off after and the manual outlines what maintained is required, but it's safe to take in water. With our use, the inside was dry and without any issues as far as I can remember. We would have surfed at the ocean if we were located closer to one.

I miss 1 Mile at Bidwell Park....
As I've come to expect, you do a great job explaining newbie stuff (like the nimh/lipo jumper and lvc) without boring the pants off seasoned hobbyists. Speaking of which, when you swap in a lighter battery should you add lead weight, or did you find there's enough ballast regardless? And one quibble. I get that you're located in silicon valley, but the o-rings are siliCONE -- vastly different compound. :-)
Switching from the NiMH to the LiPo the weight wasn't noticed as much as the power, but they were probably working together. We didn't feel any need to add weight but we are amateur boat pilots/surfers. Great little surfer though. And if you pronounce those o-rings like me, they work better. Strange.
-Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies Thansk for the report back. And, ha. Just don't going asking the surgeon for silicon butt implants. Cheers.
@@NaturallyRC Haha
It seemed like it was fast when you put it in the water the first time, then it slowed down a lot after it got tangled up with the weeds. Then you put the lipo in and it was back to normal speed like when you started with the nimh. Maybe the propeller is damaged, slipping , or bent.
Great review! Thanks for posting this! I was hoping to find out how long the RC surfer lasts in the water? I read on the website it's only about 7 minutes?!? And how did you charge the battery in 30 minutes instead of 8 hours? I want to buy this for my husband for his birthday so I'm trying to find out from someone who's used it if it's really worth it.... looks like so much fun though!
We used an aftermarket charger to speed up charging. With the included battery, runtime isn't very long, but you can increase the runtime and performance using the optional 2S LiPo we used; this one: www.amainhobbies.com/protek-rc-2s-100c-sigraphene-hv-lipo-stick-pack-tcs-battery-7.6v-5000mah-ptk-5129-19/p942346?
But you'll also need a dedicated LiPo battery charger to go alone with it; something like this will work: www.amainhobbies.com/ecopower-electron-44-ac-lihv-lipo-life-battery-charger-24s-4a-50w-ecp-1006/p699115?r=0&
But if that's too much hassle and money than it's worth, you can just use the equipment included with the surfer and buy a second battery down the road later. This charger will greatly speed up charge times with the included battery, and it's pretty inexpensive: www.amainhobbies.com/ecopower-electron-ni82-ac-nimh-nicd-battery-charger-18-cells-2a-25w-ecp-1003/p698673
Hope that helps, but ask any other questions you have.
-Brett
AMain Hobbies thank you so much for all that information 👍🏻 I'll have to see what prices are like and if it's worth it. Thanks again man!
@@AMain_Hobbies still though, what was the approx. runtime with the upgraded battery?
This is the coolest toy ever and always draws a crowd. I have taken mine to Huntington, Bolsa Chica and Sunset beaches in SO. CAL. and sent him to the out side set. He will get big air on a swell and make it over most breaking waves, but you have to be able to read the waves just like in real life. My surfer is stock now but after watching your great video I ordered the bigger motor and a LiPO battery. One thing though with the stock battery I always make it back in. Is it true that a LiPo just shuts off? That could make for a long cold swim.
Shoot, I don't quite remember how that ESC operates regarding cutoff but good chance it just shuts off completely. Not all ESC's operate that way, but most. You might give it a try and experiment. Great to hear the fun you're having with the surfer! I can only imagine how fun the waves are to surf.
-Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies Did you ever install the brushless motor? if so, where can I find the video?
@@AMain_Hobbies also could you post exactly which lipo battery you used? Thanks
@@ewolfe72552 We did not do the brushless conversion sadly. We had plans of traveling 4 hours to the ocean for real waves and great action, but sadly it never happened with everything going on. Maybe one day. Here is the 2S LiPo battery we used though: www.amainhobbies.com/protek-rc-2s-100c-sigraphene-hv-lipo-stick-pack-tcs-battery-7.6v-5000mah-ptk-5129-19/p942346
-Brett
my new acquisition
Which lipo and how much run time did you gain?
Watt motor Brushless i can youze ant which battery lipo? Thanks!!
bring it to SC already!
Rc surfer reminds me of that time I hit my thumb with a hammer. It sucks
A W E S O M E.
I'd replace the generic surfer guy with a TMNT figure
I feel like I've been so pitted, I mean so pitted and like just spit out ... awesome ... totally ...
Whats the run time with 2s lipo compared to the nimh battery?
Not sure on exact numbers, but probably twice as long with a lipo, or more.
-Brett
Hi what "c" rating does the lipo battery need to be?
Kyosho does not say, but we recommend 35C or higher.
-Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies cool thaks for that
Brett, Where's the brushless surfer bud?
Shoot, I know... Would love to do it if we can get extra time to go to the coast.
-Brett
Brushless!!!
Can we put a Gopro 10 on it ? isn't it too heavy ?
We didn't try it but I bet it would work. The extra weight up high may mess with the self-righting characteristics, but other than that, the surfer should operate normally.
-Brett
Your the same as me in the desert we have little water ....do they make a sand suffer yet.....yes I am lafing at my own joke I could get soooooo pitted too...
What 2s battery did you use?
www.amainhobbies.com/protek-rc-2s-100c-sigraphene-hv-lipo-stick-pack-tcs-battery-7.6v-5000mah-ptk-5129-19/p942346?
-Brett
How long is the run time
I want one to play with at my beach
Can you imagine bringing this to your bashing spot and all your buddies ask you if you brought your Barbie 😦
can you imagine paying over 200 bucks for that hunk of crap?
Had this in my cart and was about to pull the trigger when I noticed that figure’s right hand is not scale. Also has this little bit of hair hanging down on forehead which bothers me. So it’s a no go for me.
yeah it was the hands, not the $220.00 price tag that just ruined it for me LMAO
Go brushless on a budget!
All that FFing made me dizzy! PITAzz indeed. You're gonna end up sounding like me, if ya ain't careful. Boy, you are WHITE. Get some sun! You are in CA and playing with a Surfer Dude!! 'Bout blinded me!😎What the hell was that at the end?😮🤣
How does this one compare to the Kyosho RC Surfer 3 Lost ? ua-cam.com/video/1RTJM3oJ7Hc/v-deo.html
They're very similar surfers with the biggest difference being styling and graphics.
-Brett
Way to boring in a pond or lake .
Dude, it's meant to surf not drive with power in ponds with leaves. Next time, jump in the car and drive to a the beach on a small wave day, and review properly. This is like taking a submarine and driving it above water and comparing it to a boat?! I won't buy till I see a proper review. FYI - who would buy a surfer for a lake - no one - thus your review is pointless.
