Thank you so much for the effort of making this Video. I managed to fix this by installing the shim + replacing cap and the thick bearing bearing securing ring. Part WHT001976 (0,65mm shim) + replacement 0A5311183(securing ring because most probably old one got weared) and 02M301211B (replacement cap ) BUT BE CAREFULL: after i installed the 0,65mm shim I still had some play, could have fitted a thicher one, so instead of WHT001976 you could get the full set with different thickness part: 02B498210 and fit the proper one depending on your level of play. Thanks again!!!

Hi mate - I did this 6,000 miles ago - but the issue’s come back (clutch pedal gets a bit stuck down, and has crept along when the pedal was fully down). I had a look yesterday and can’t quite get another shim in, so need a thinner one. Does the full shim kit haven’t different thicknesses? Many thanks.

Alexandru Caldararu thanks very much. I found some differential shim kits - but they’re a smaller diameter - so won’t fit the end of the input shaft which is accessible under the plastic cap... will have a hunt around.

Awesome video I've just carried out this work after following your video on my vehicle SEAT Alhambra 7M 2.0 TDI 140 6 speed manual gearbox. Couldn't have done it without this video really helped me out and save me hundreds of pounds.
In my case the plug cap had become corroded meaning fluid was slowly leaking from the gearbox (fixed by installing new plug seal), also I was having problems selecting reverse and first gear which was down to the excessive play in the bearing. ( Fixed by installing shim). I realized this issue would be fixed by installing the shim after watching this video to fix the initial problem with the leaking seal cap.
Remember that if you need to install the shim you have to replace seal cap also, as when you take off the old one it gets damaged and you cannot use it again. So buy the shim and the seal cap as a pair

I installed this mod onto my Audi TT MK1 (02M FZP Gearbox) yesterday.
All gear whine miraculously gone from 1-4 and it's smooth to shift now! No crunches, no difficult gear changes.
I want to thank you for this video as it definitely helped me doing this on my own, this is a REALLY EASY AND RECOMMENDED mod if you have gear whining hands down.
It's amazing how such a washer can make all that difference.
Are there any downsides to this mod, or is it nothing but beneficial to the gearbox.

I got my shims n cap off DarksideDev, came with 3 shims just case you got really bad play and don't forget if you can get em circlip/snap ring pliers makes getting the ring out easier.
So what I did first was check the play in the shaft and yes there was play so stuck in the 2 out of the 3 shims to see what I needed to use but I found I couldn't fit in the circlip on top of the 2 shims to lock it as of course that circlip also acts as a shim so really only need 1 shim plus the circlip.
With the circlip now back in with 1 shim the play in the shaft was pretty much gone also the new plastic cover you hammer back on is also going to apply a resistance against the play.

    • @kangapoopradjan4426

      Very well Done 👍
      Good concise video
Get a pair of circlip pliers & should clean area first & wipe cap seal area with clean dry cloth b4 fitting new cap
If you have an automatic link that pays you for sending people to a tool company you might want to find a circlip plier set that has 3 removable heads for making this job & others easier & quicker
It benefits you & the many people who watch your vid & think may try this but put off by circlip faff.
Take this as a compliment from an engineer who's been fixing things for 50+ years 👍

Smashing chap for that rapid reply, what a legend. The weather is rather ugly at the moment, I will get a proper look at it when my shim and cap gets delivered tomorrow, attempted to contact the guys mentioned on your video and apparently they have had so many people asking about it based on your video(influenced a lot of people to go DYI prompts to you) that they are out of stock and do not know when they will receive more. I ordered directly from dealer both parts £15 which isn't tragic by a long throw if it fixes the absolutely PITA whining sound coming from the box during deceleration mostly noticeable in 3rd but is there throughout the gears just far quieter. Thanks boss, will keep updated on the outcome likely tomorrow, at the same time fitting new PCV pipes ordered from fleebay as keeping the car bog standard except for map (easier resale ).

You're a fucking saint. Just completed this job on my 2005 GLI 6speed. You really undersold how much of a difference this makes. I was getting some sticking going from reverse to first gear, and some sloppy shifts from 2nd to 3rd. I ALWAYS heard a pretty noisy "clunk" when pushing the clutch in, something I assumed was normal. Gone. All of it. Smooth as butter, you can't even hear or feel when the clutch is pressed in now. Not the same car. Feels like I just dropped a brand new gear box into it. Makes me wonder how many people had work done to their gear box that didn't need it, or how many failed prematurely. You'd think VW would have put out a bulletin about this. Anyway, thank you again. xoxo

I have pretty much these same symptoms, but I bought the shim and attempted to install today, and while there is some play there, it isn't enough to get the circlip properly back over the top of it. So I had to put it all back together with the new lid - makes me wonder what else could be causing these issues, I've had a new clutch and dual mass flywheel.

Dude, I literally read about this last week and ordered my parts. Got mine from my local vw. Just a question though, I also get a buzzing noise when I'm in neutral sometimes, sometimes it goes away when I depress the clutch, othertimes it doesnt. I have been told possible o ring on my clutch, thrust bearing, or release bewarinh . I don't want to have to change all just to fix it though!

    • @RedlineRevs
      @RedlineRevs  7 років тому

It's a really simple fix without even taking the gearbox off. Did it on my old FR Tdi as well but lost the footage. Not sure about your clutch sound. Best bet would be to find a good independent garage to inspect it. Then decide if you want to just fix the immediate problem or perhaps you can budget to change more if it makes sense given labour involved, depending on what it turns out to be. I can recommend someone 30 mins from Watford.
