It's very simple, the number of places should be based on the number of active players in each region.
Activision would have all this data at their fingertips. I would even suggest filtering it down further to exclude the casual players, which would mean only counting the number of active players over a certain KD.

This exact debate played out in Starcraft 2, where koreans were dominating every tournament and crowding out any chance of mid talent non-korean talent to rise to the top.
Once they locked it, the foreigners (ie. Non koreans) really had a chance to shine and sink time into the game. Now two of the best players are non-korean, which likely wouldnt have happened without the region lock.

The amount of people who signed up for WSOW on each side is a very good indicator of how big the competitive scenes are. NA had 2144 teams and EMEA had 2815 teams of which most are from EU.

I think Wsow spots should be divied out as meritocraticly as possible. And in the current state, NA has the best talent measured based on avg placement from last year. Having equal EU spots is based off a goal to grow EU, not the current state of talent. And Fifas argument to gift EU 3 extra is definitely at the detriment of the other regions. Ebatez has the best take though, bring everyone to lan and have quals there
My issue is all of these scrims, practice tourneys etc, are held on NA servers at a time of the day that suits the US better. EU have to play these into the early hours of the morning (1am - 2am etc) on a very high ping. EU gets a bum deal in this sense.
However, I completely understand that the likes of Hector and Ebatez etc try their hardest to make things inclusive for everyone.
theres a handfull of oce teams that are alot better than eu yet eu get way more spots
Just caught up on this, as usual a good discussion. Fifa on point. I think when we get past the quals and we know who is going to Lan it should be EU/NA host rotated on each scrim to make it fair
The issue is it’s a different game when they’re all on lan. When the ping is 150-180 you’re not going to get a good match.
@@tapeit8135 but the EU guys playing all end up on 150 ping because of the central host. Its about having a fair & level playing field for them to practise on LAN
thing happens much worse in other regions like ME and especially in APAC. so many unknown talented players.

why doesnt someone from eu host it also, take turns in each scrim, so one tourney will be na hosted the next eu hosted
Last year Brazil had 2 spots and now only 2 for Latam South, Mexico the same, 3 spots and now 3 for Latam North. These new 6 spots should be divided to other countries, NA and EU are already many spots.
Why not just have mutual host for long distance connections
It’s simple, leave spots the same for 3 years and if they aren’t at the same level or near then lower their spots.

That's such a stupid argument. You're comparing a sport where millions are guaranteed if you're good. There isn't that money in warzone tournaments especially at their age to take that gamble. EU should have those opportunities
