This is awesome!!!!! Thank you for posting this and for the incredible soundtrack!!! Alembic, the pioneer of active bass electronics, craftsmanship, tone, and the 5-string bass (along with the great Jimmy Johnson and GHS bass strings) with a low B string, makes some of the best basses on the planet and sets the standard for all boutique bass makers!!!
Thanks, it was an enlightening and somewhat quirky place where harmless blocks of wood turn into works of music making art. There is no doubt about the craftmanship and dedication alembic put into making their musical instruments. The Alembic gathering was also a great experience meeting musicians whom I'd been communicating with for years on the forum. Like meeting up with old friends. A memorable experience :-)
STILL THE THE BEST BASSES ON THE PLANET WITHOUT QUESTION ,ALEMBIC CREATED THE MOLD OF UPPER CAST QUALITY AND EVEN WITH ALL THE BUILDERS OVER THE YEARS THAT TRY TO BE BETTER WITH THEIR PRE-AMPS BUT ALEMBICS WITH THEIR ELECTRONICS SOUND MORE ORGANIC. SO TO ALEMBIC I TIP MY HAT BRAVO.
Owning an alembic had been a dream since I listened to Return to Forever ( Romantic Warrior). I agree with you they are in a class of their own. I do realise their sound and look are not for everyone and with the low pass filters it can take a while to grasp how to get repeatable tones. It took me ages because I had moved from playing passive guitars to this active bass. But once you get it, it is hard to look elsewhere. Do you have one yourself?
For some reason I cannot get in touch with Micah and Alembic.. Hi would like to find someone on the East Coast that can do repairs and customizations on my bases. Any suggestions please?
I would love to help but i'm not in the USA. Best idea would be to join the alembic web site forum www.alembic.com and post your request there. Mica contributes a lot to the forum so will most likely see your message
Sorry about that, I just put a load of stuff together from my visit to the alembic factory and didn't think of those things. Well next time I try to do something similar I will take more time to check for these things. Thanks for pointing it out. :-)
:043 that Series II burl walnut bass at top and front might be mine.. waiting since _____________ for it. (longer than I hope you can imagine) This might be the year!
Eddie Barzoon Thanks Eddie, I had a great time visiting the alembic workshop and meeting many other alembic playing musicians at the annual Alembic gathering in California.
I feel your pain. About an hour up the road from Santa Rosa several devotees prayed for several hours at the Church of John Coltrane that St. Alice would appear and turn off the electric supply to the Wickershams. But it didn't work.
So do I.As a young bassist I would stare holes in the magazines pictures of Bics'.But alas thing like rent, braces for my daughter and lifes basics came first . Plenty of gigs for low pay plus a day job, but the beauties I craved were a couple of grand at least. Now 30 yrs.later that same bass cost thousands more.Maybe they play Alembics in the great hereafter.

All I can do is quote from Nigel Tufnel: "Don't touch it. Don't even look at it."
Looks like you had a great time.... Wish I could have been there !

Nice video documentation of the gathering.
I’ve owned 4 alembics great basses and heavy asf ! The weight is NEVER mentioned and weight matters
Yeah absolutely most of them are heavy basses. I have played Epic and Europa basses and they are not heavy at all.
These Bros' sure do love some Alembic! So do I.
What's not to love. :-)
@@nsjmusic Only the fact that I don't have one.
I am from Barzil, and I would like to have a Alembic Guitar (no Bass) Custom ... Where I by one, please? Thank you
Best place is the alembic web site and order one direct from there. Sometimes guitars appear on ebay or reverb web sites. I hope you find one.
@@nsjmusic Thank you
What was the point of posting live audio of players noodling on their basses while background music is playing?
I don't get that either
Driving me nuts

what is with the constant music in he background omg
The track is called Soldier and it's from Stanley Clarke's album called The Stanley Clarke Band.
I forgot, what song was that?

I guess you must have got your bass by now, what do you think of it?
Great vid.

+nsjmusic Well I hate to break it to you. But PC was also there in his astral form. And he was secretly laughing at each and every one of you.
Wow! Great video. Surprise!
I feel poor...so poor
