Just grabbed Boy Parts on Kindle Unlimited. (As much as I love a good physical book that I can write notes and underline passages in, I sadly have limitations in terms of space.) Looking to get through that during the Thanksgiving break starting tomorrow! Thanks for the recommendations! These books all seem rad! Stoked to check 'em all out!
Hey welcome back! These books all sound awesome, especially Boy Parts.....definitely going to read all three. The magazine is awesome by the way! Looking forward to more recommendations from You. Happy to be a subscriber. Keep up the good work! 👏🏻👍☠️
Paul, thank you so much for your kind words & for tuning in! Appreciate you checking out the magazine :) Hope you love the books once you give them a read x
I have that Laymon book but I haven't gotten to it yet but am moving it up on my 'to read' list. Laymon books just fly by though sometimes I wonder if books which have overly sexy...umm...14 year old girls as heroines is socially acceptable. Though the last one of his I read was a zombie novella starring an old maid of 18.
It's not a novel, but the most disturbing book I've come across is Death Scenes: A Homicide Detectives Scrapbook. It's a scrapbook that former LAPD homicide detective Jack Huddleston kept throughout his career, they published it in 1996.
Great channel! I found Richard Laymon after some Dean R Koontz. Waterstones used to carry a ton of them but they seem to be largely out of print now. I hope you cover some more of his work. There's a 'bootleg' movie version of 'In the Dark' online somewhere which is the first book of his I read.
@@zobowithashotgun it didn't grab me the way story of the eye did, but I have a feeling it's one that will grow on me more and more. The great thing about his fiction is that they're so short that it's not much of a hassle to revisit them when the mood arises haha
Did anyone ever say you're like Emma Peel from The Avengers? :) Love your recommendations, shall be checking them out methodically, it is my mission to peer into the darkness of the human condition.
Laymon is always fun...but you are right, he seems to be horny while writing all the time :-D I guess you just have to take his stuff for what it is: fun and mindless exploitation pulp ;-) Will check out your magazine soon! Are you at goodreads, too?
Laymon wrote what amused him, including the “sexist” fantasy women. It would never occur to me to complain about equivalent female or gay or whatever perspective based fantasy someone else would enjoy writing or reading. In fact, I would rather read some really out there gay fantasy objectifying good looking men than any book where it’s holding back due to fashionable (and weird) neo-Puritanism. In fact I’m more inclined to Laymon’s crudeness now than 15 years ago, due to the suffocating atmosphere of today’s culture. But I love your channel and best of luck with your site.
Fair enough Kent. I think as an avid reader it can often be tiring to see women described purely based on their physical appearance with next to no mention of their personality - for me it's lazy writing rather than fantasy if I'm honest. I've read many great writers who 'objectify' their subject's physical appearance yet manage to give the character some form of personality. But I appreciate your viewpoint on it!
@@zobowithashotgun Totally fair, Zobo. Thanks for the friendly response. Oh and for the record, if I were to write you as a character there would be Laymanesque happiness over your looks but your humor and intelligence would be awesome features as well. And I’d give you some kind of memorable weapon. Because there would be bloodshed :)
