Jack Van Norman thought kareem got it from one of his coaches. It was a drill to practice layups with each hand, and he perfected it when they banned dunking at one point
Jack Van Norman Read his memoir, It’s called Becoming Kareem, he says he came up with it in 8th grade. Later in college his coach, John Wooden, helped him perfect it.
@@RicardoAGuitar Nowadays people can watch this video, but back in the 80s-90s-00s you couldn't and you could only watch the games on tv (few would like to watch documentaries on old basketball, let's be honest): and so, with the exponential growth of the NBA in terms of business and coverage, Magic, Larry and Jordan are much more vivid in the collective memory of us fans. From a fan point of view, I think what I said before.
@@Russoski234 I'm not disagreeing with you about today's media saturation; what I am saying is that Chamberlain received tons of accolades until the day he died. In fact, his reputation has taken a hit ever since Jordan won his sixth title and people started to REALLY emphasize championships in the GOAT discussions. It's always been a big part of sports talk but it's gotten a lot worse in the last 20 years. Hardly anyone talks about Dr. J anymore but he was a living legend even before that NBA title in 83. (He had won at least one in the ABA, I can't remember if he won more)
Joel Embiid gives much respect to Wilt Chamberlain. And he has mine. It was like Wilt scoring 50ppg and making 100 points seems like a myth. A legend passed down in stories to generations.
Embiid has a great mindset. He can accept criticism knowing that people are trying to help him get better. Also, like you say he appreciates greatness and history. Learning what makes players great so you can add to your game is a foundation of a great player.
You also have to assume that he was sort of following in Wilt's footsteps by going to Kansas. You can tell that while never knowing him or seeing him personally that he admired Wilt's game so I wouldnt say its be far fetched that he chose Kansas over somewhere like North Carolina or Duke because of Wilt
Wilt Chamberlain GOD of NBA Well Your God is dead. Wilt is not God. In that great and terrible day all will know and see the glorious appearing of the Son of God. To deliver justice and wipe away all evil on behalf of his God. The one true God.
Here's something that no one thinks about: if Wilt retired after his rookie season (1959-60), he would still hold the single-season records for scoring (37.6 PPG) and rebounding (27.0 RPG). In 60 years, the only player to equal or surpass those records is Wilt.
Jacob Pflaum wilt invented the fade-away, and was the most athletic player ever. He would be modern day shaq with a jumper. He would be Joel embiid if Joel was as explosive as westbrooke. To say he is a modern day Javale McGee is more than ignorant, it’s just factually incorrect
Jimmy Colleran Stop it. Not Russel Westbrook’s explosiveness. Not Shaq’s power. Not Embiid’s touch. He is better then Javale I will admit but I’m tired of people over rating Wilt. He was not that big, not that explosive, and not that skilled.
@@Jeff_Green You're right a man that benched 500 was not that strong. A college sprinter who ran a 4.4 was not that explosive. A guy who has a vertical 15 inches higher than Westbrook isn't as explosive. Do you not see how ridiculous what you are typing is.
If you were to add literally x1 Block x1 steal and 7 Turnovers to Wilt career playoff basic stat line. He have the highest playoff PER for a career by far. Now imagine if we actually add 7.3 Blocks 3 Steals and 3 Turnovers. It astronomical.
@Robert Johnson Bill Russell used that as an example when he was asked what he thought of people accusing him of having an advantage against Wilt because Wilt held back against him. He said "Yeah that's a crock! Do you know the record for most rebounds in a game? 55. Do you know who Wilt was playing against that game? ME!"
Pff Who Told u that he did have an advantage but you need to understand that Bill is the second best rebounder of all-time. That sh*t accounts for something.
HitStickNik There were only 6 teams back then which had Bill Russel, George Mikan, Willis Reed in the 60s and they had to play 82 games. So imagine against Bill Russel for 3-6 games. Also the celtics were a super team back then.
Shaq is way overrated and was often lazy. He dominated at the cafeteria for sure. How is he worth $300M+? Could be that 33rd degree Masonic ring he wears.
That is true which is why everyone always say shaq is the most dominant in their era/lifetime but when they talk about the entire history of the NBA, everyone agrees wilt is the most dominant. Recency bias and having no knowledge on the rules differences caused nephews to insult old greats. 40 years from now those who say MJ is the goat will be ridiculed. That's how it is.
@@iess2006 he was as great a personality as he was an athlete. He's overrated as hell, not top 10 and definitely not the best center ever. But he's a smart guy and a great businessman who markets himself very well. I gotta give him props and respect for that.
@Making Gainz in wilts case it doesn't matter because of his pure athleticism and strength that has never been seen before in sports. A 7'1 giant who could run a 4'4 40 yard dash who also had the stamina of no other player. A man who went to the track coach to give him a shot at high jump and he won without Any true practice. Someone who was too strong for Arnold scwarzanigga.
The players from back then say he probably averaged around 12-14 blocks per game.... He wouldn't just have multiple triple doubles. His career stat line would be a triple double.
@@NicolasAlcalde maybe even a quintuple double if you wanna take it far, wilt was called a hog so the very next year he lead the league in assists.. this has nothing to do do with the actual reply lol sorry
A quadruple double, he was a phenomenal passer as well. So think, he gets 10+ blocks, 10+ assist, 20+ rebounds and 30+ points. He could've done that. There's no other NBA players who could dream of doing something like that and if wilt really tried he def could have done it
If he played now he would be unstoppable. No big man nowadays would be able to stop him. Even the greats like Shaq, Tim Duncan, etc would have a hard time playing against him
@@lordskittles14 Wilt never averaged 10 APG for any season - even the one he won the assist title. He DID get close though, and probably WOULD have picked up quite a few quadruple double games had blocks been tracked in his timeframe. And yes, there IS another NBA player that could have managed (and probably DID) a lot of quadruple doubles - Bill Russell was no slouch as a shot blocker, and in fact was BETTER at it as HIS BLOCKS USUALLY TURNED INTO TURNOVERS, Wilt's usually ended up going back to the same team. I do wonder how many blocks Oscar Robinson got....
It doesn't feel like Wilt was playing in the NBA. His numbers were something different. Wilt was like a god, a myth, a legend. It's hard to believe someone could be so dominant
I read his book growing up. It broke my heart watching him be gracious during the celebration ceremony of Kareem passing Wilt's all-time scoring record. Kareem received so many gifts and adulation for the feat. Wilt never got the recognition he deserved, when his career was over. Just because the Celtics beat his team, and every other team in the playoffs, so many times. He should get so much more attention from us and the internet universe.
William Craig Jr, It is hard to say who is greatest because of slightly different rules in different eras. Let's say Wilt is the greatest scorer and defender of all-time but his coach would not hand him the ball if they are trailing by 2 points with 10 seconds left. The other team would foul him and the % wouldn't look good. The chances Wilt could tie the game is roughly 60% * 60%. That chance is about 36%. On the contrary, the 2nd greatest scorer of all-time, Kareem Jabbar, would be a much better fit than Wilt in a late tight game.
@@richardlloyd2589 You also notice, Wilt is the only person I seen Scottie seriously call GOAT, no hesitation. He called LeBron the greatest he's ever *seen* to change back and say it was MJ a few months later, and switches it every few months. But right here? He straight up said it. Wilt is his 🐐. Never noticed him do that w anyone else before. And he said it with the persona of, IDGAF who hears me say it.
Because he is salty that Wilt blocked him over and over in a pick up game. Old wilt with college kids embarrassed that man with his laker squad. Magic and kareem are both salty bitches
@james83925 On the other hand, the Chamberlain-led 76ers were the ONLY TEAM to ever beat the Russell-led Celtics in a finals series. If that makes Wilt a loser, what's that make everyone else?
@@RPMcM09 no, Arnold described Wilt as an absolute freak of nature. According to Arnold, his max bench was about 400 lbs and 110 lbs of tricep extensions while Wilt's everyday bench is 500 lbs and 170 lbs of tricep extensions.
The reason Wilt gets so little attention is due to the NBA not trying to project it's past and the fact that his numbers are like a video game. The man played against some of the best centers in the history of the league, most of them are in the HOF now, and just flat dominated them all. Still holds well over 60 NBA records even after 50 years of being retired.
@Eren Vaughn You have to be genuinely stupid to compare wilts accomplishments to Mj's. Just face the facts Wilt played in a weak era with a fast pace. Hes overrated but still top 10 at least
it's cuz he didn't win as much as bill russell did. like jordan made everyone forget how good patrick ewing, clyde drexler, etc were. those guys were legends but won't be remembered for it because they got overshadowed by all time super teams like the celtics or bulls. allen iverson dominated the late 90s early 2000s and sure we acknowledge it and he won an mvp and was inducted into the hall of fame. but that era will always be remembered as shaq and kobe's. then wilts amazing feats don't have many videos. if we had videos of his 100 point game i'm sure he would be much more acknowledged
If another player like Wilt Chamberlain or Bill Russell showed up today, they would dominate the league just like they did before. Ability is ability. It's a timeless thing.
Russell to me more resembled Tim Duncan. A great team player who won titles (in an 8 or 9 team league) and was as tough defensively as anyone in his era. But he had the best supporting cast (as did Duncan). Wilt most of the time had scrubs playing around him until 1966 when they finally got a title.
If the game went back to traditional roles, then yes. Today the game is positionless. Bring Russell away from the basket and he would be less dominant. But Russell would have found a way to make an impact.
Greatest athlete for sure. You'll most likely never see a 7'1 guy running a 4.4 40 yd dash with a 50 inch vertical benching 600lbs. That's just mindblowing
@@heyyy6068 In his first 8 years in the league, he was fast and could jump out of the gym. But he did not have a 50" vertical. It was closer to 44", but still, absolutely tremendous. I've seen a lot of videos of former players talking about playing with Wilt. They estimate he averaged about 12-14 blocks per game. We think it's special when Oscar Robertson does it for a season or Westbrook does it for a couple seasons. Wilt would have averaged a triple double for his entire career had they counted blocks back then. That's even crazier than his 100 points in a game or averaging 50 for a year.
Javale McGee would average a trip dub back then too...watch a game from back then, its hilarious. You can't compare era's, just like jordan said..every era plays different games, with different skill sets and evolution of play that changes rules...how many rules did wilt change himself? Quite a few..rules will always change as players continue to get better and find ways to exploit them
I’d wager that he would have had the most ever Quadruple Doubles in NBA history had they actually counted blocks as a stat. In fact, especially the year he led the league in assists, he may have ever averaged a Quadruple Double for an entire season that year!
@jimmie jenkins jordan is a goat...and i think ranking players is subjective...if i had a gun to my head and had to pick 1 goat im taking Lebron. Imagine Bron playing in the 60's lol...the evolution of the game is real, and the skill set of players back then is non existent in comparison to today.
@Bryan 27 naw, he wouldn't have the skill set as a big to dominate today...its just a different game..and every era its like that..just like u cant compare kobe and mj, totally different games...the bulls aint rippin off back to back 3 peats with the talent in the league this era...just like wilt aint averaging no 50 pt 25 reb today either.
Wilt weighed in at 292 starting in 1964, and increased to 310-315 during the Laker years. A man that large, jumping THAT high, playing those minutes, year after year, in CHUCKS- no wonder he was done after a little over 1,000 games. Imagine if Wilt has just been able to wear 1985-vintage Air Jordans, much less the high-tech, super-padded, custom-made shoes that todays players wear. With his amazing physicality, he would likely have been able to play 20 or more injury-free seasons.
He played professional volleyball into his 50s. I don't think he was physically worn out. He just got bored. He continued getting serious offers to come back to the NBA during that time.
Wilt gets ignored because most people cannot even wrap their heads around his accomplishments. It's as if they are wishing that his records would just disappear because everyone knows that the best current and future players can do is come in second.
I think it also has to do with his era being weaker than the current and 80's Nd 90s era. Players from the 80s on were on another level as far as overall talent as a league.
@@eddiemarin2984 Naw because ppl still bring up Bill Russell and he played in the same era....and Ppl still say MJ the Goat and his era wasn't as talented as today's era

Wilt still owns 90 NINETY NBA records! 50 points per game. 25 rebounds per game. 100 points in a game. 7 scoring titles. 9 rebounding titles. 11 shooting titles. Once 26 TWENTYSIX shots in a game. Imagine, a player today doing those things...the media hype would be off the chart. The GOAT, and its not even close!

Everything you said is accurate 100% except for the strongest part lol. He was definitely the strongest of his era but athletes have evolved since then. I would say shaq is stronger
koolaid I mean like if you look up who the strongest person to play the NBA it says Wilt and he benched 500 and it says that the most Shaw could bench was 450. Even when Wilt was 59 he still benched 465 which was more than Shaq ever did
Here's Frank Deford aptly describing him in a great story in Sports Illustrated when Wilt turned 50: " Chamberlain was .... probably the greatest athletic construction ever formed of flesh and blood, a natural who was big and strong and fast and agile, accomplished in virtually every challenge he accepted

The thing that really stands out, considering how aggressive and powerful he was - he never fouled out of a game his whole career. Usually had no more than one or two personals in a game. Never got tossed over technicals, either. The scoring is incredible, of course - just take one stat, the number of 60-point games. They made a BFD over Kobe getting his sixth in his last game, but that's only second place. Wilt did it 32 TIMES.
Actually, Wilt DID get tossed over technicals - 2 or 3 times in his career I think it was. The book on him per Phil Jackson (who PLAYED against him a few years) was that Wilt was NOT aggressive - as long as you didn't piss him off. Wilt wanted to show SKILL, not just run over people like Shaq did.
And don't forget....Wilt scored 60+ points 15 times in one season. In that same season, he had 30+ rebounds 20 times. Also, many have conservatively speculated that he averaged over 7 blocks per game for his career.

Best rim protector, best on the boards, best in post up, most athletic big man ever, best passing big man ever. Many of his records are comically out of reach, and the only reason he didn't win more championships is because he was playing against a ridiculously STACKED Celtics dynasty. I grew up watching Wilt on TV. The only reason, IMO, that he gets left out, is 80% of today's fans never saw him play, and they don't make time to watch the old video recordings. His nimbleness, his strength, his court-awareness, his moves, his finesse, his endurance. He was the closest thing to a superman a human can be.

I remember this because I remember Wilt Chamberlain at the "charity stripe". I bet my father a dollar that Wilt would make the free-throw that he was about to take, not having a clue that he was right up there with Shaquille O'Neal as a terrible foul shot shooter. I remember my father forewarning me that Mr. Chambelain, a near-immortal in just about anything and everything that he did was brought back to earth by one thing, shooting the basketball without being challenged. Maybe it had something to do with the rim being 13-feet from the shooting line, perhaps? I didn't adhere to the warning my dad gave me about Wilt Chamberlain's free-throw shooting skills and stuck with the bet. Swish! Needless to say, I won my dollar from my dad. hE pLaYeD aGaInSt nO cOmPeTiTiOn 🤦🏽♂️ stop it, It wasn’t Wilt’s fault that he was better than everyone else, he ran a 4.40 (or less) in a 40 yard dash, he has the highest vertical ever recorded at almost 50 inches (higher than MJ,Bron,Vince etc.) it wouldn’t even matter if the tallest height in the league was 6’6 or whatever, he was alot more athletically gifted than everyone else in the league. So that “weak era” bs is all just a myth, stop it.
one of the things missing in this video is that wilt actually played with a lot of skill and finesse. for examplr he was doing dirk esque fadeaways years before dirk was even born, but for some reason he never gets any credit for it.
4:38 MJ’s argument why debating who is the goat is foolish is the exact reason why I don’t do it. You cant compare these guys because they all played in a different era.
MJ is trippin'....he's an obsessive numbers guy and very competitive. He knows damn well that Wilt still owns the record book and he should have paid his respects.
@SMT Admin i agree which is why i never say there is one real true goat. Its impossible to measures guards and big men. Different roles and responsibilities.
@Nazim Idir the problem with that argument is that wilt and bill were 2 totally different types of players. Wilt even said that him being on the Celtics instead of bill might not have worked so well because wilt needed the ball alot more than bill which would've messed up the chemistry. Plus those celtics u mentioned are mostly in the hof due to the Celtic success.
You'd think he could have gotten more than 2 rings then, considering he played with 6 of the 50 best players all-time in the NBA (at the 50th anniversary in 1996) and his teammates were 24-times all-stars. He also played for a hall of fame coach several years. Russell on the other hand only played with 4 of the 50 best players, and his teammates were all-stars 26 times. He won 11 championships in 13 years. 3 of the years, he was the head coach and a player, and won as many championships as Wilt did his entire career (2).

1:31 That's the correct reaction I feel to Wilt. Wilt has records that seem impossible, physically. I mean, just look at the 61-62 season alone and try to fathom playing that many minutes at that pace and scoring that many points and getting that many rebounds. What player could even try? And then remember that their season was shorter by a month but the same number of games so less rest, more back to backs, multiple three night stretches, and one FIVE NIGHT STRETCH. We have players right now playing in this compressed season struggling with injuries and strain. Any normal human being attempting what Wilt did would have never gotten close and almost certainly injured themselves for their trouble
Exactly, and the level of pampering the players enjoy today with the current rules and the money in the game to physically pamper them. Just the modern travelling conditions to get to games. What a ridiculous stamina he had
Without a doubt, no one gives Wilt the respect he’s due. Stats show he’s the most dominant player of all time. Think about it...Jordan would not beat Wilt 1v1. Neither would Kobe. Nor LeBron. Nor anyone else. He was a man amongst boys.
Well he's also like 7.1 and Jordan's 6,6 so not very fair right so many people saying " wilt could best Jordan 1on1" well no duh he's a center and basketball a team sport that's why Jordan won 6 rings and wilt won 2
In fact, he played against great centers, Russell, Nate Thurmond, Willis Reed, Kareem.. and that's not the end of the list. And because there were less teams he had to play them more often, which makes this feat even more extraordinary than it already is.

Nobody. Nobody on this video can be compared to the Player that Wilt Chamberlain was in the decade of the 60's.
Wilt Chamberlain was probably the Greatest athlete to ever live , and we had the pleasure of witnessing him put his gifts on full display !
50 points, 25 rebounds, 8 assists, 10+ blocks, strongest player in history, speed of Westbrook, could touch the top of the backboard, played 48.5 minutes per game a season(in the fastest paced era), averaged 70 points per game against pros AT AGE 16, and a 7'8 wingspan. Wilt was simply Zeus. A mountain where other players are hills.
Everything you said is accurate 100% except for the strongest part lol. He was definitely the strongest of his era but athletes have evolved since then. I would say shaq is stronger
koolaid Ben Wallace is the strongest ever to play in the NBA. I think that’s his name anyway
koolaid I mean like if you look up who the strongest person to play the NBA it says Wilt and he benched 500 and it says that the most Shaw could bench was 450. Even when Wilt was 59 he still benched 465 which was more than Shaq ever did
Big Soil bench doesn’t determine who is stronger. Shaq is stronger OVERALL
@@hdemaisip5988 not sure what you're on about. You can just look at wilt and you can tell there's no way he is the strongest ever

@Wilt Chamberlain GOD of NBA what?
Most dominant specimen in the history of any sport. I don't care what anybody says. Its a fact.
Here's Frank Deford aptly describing him in a great story in Sports Illustrated when Wilt turned 50: " Chamberlain was .... probably
the greatest athletic construction ever formed of flesh and blood, a
natural who was big and strong and fast and agile, accomplished in
virtually every challenge he accepted
I’d put Wayne Gretzky above him
@@SuperBBQgaming Wayne Grestzy really 😑
@@SuperBBQgaming as far as guys who dominated their contemporaries the most, it's a tough call between Wilt, Gretzky and Babe Ruth. Ruth was breaking all time records in his 3rd season as a hitter and out homering entire teams. Gretzky won the MVP 9 times in 10 seasons. Insane.
The most impressive stat is his MPG. No one comes close to his endurance.
40+ minutes per game was COMMON for NBA starters in the 1960s.
Bill Russell in particular only missed Wilt's career MPG mark by less than 2 MPG.
A game is only 48 mins, he set the record at 48.5.
@@truponit A game in regulation is 48 minutes - but Wilt played in some OVERTIME games that season, those can go 53 59 or rarely 65 minutes, but I don't *think* there's ever been a Quadruple Overtime NBA game (bloody rare bird if they do exist) at 71 minutes.
Still VERY bloody impressive that he only missed *6 minutes* in that entire season (he technical fouled out at least once that year).
Imagine Wilt today. Imagine this man growing up in this generation and being able to use these workout regimens and technology of today. This guy would be the best player on the court and wouldn't need to sacrifice any of his greatness for his team to succeed.
with todays equipment and training regimens, he could possibly be better than he was before

Even among the freaks of NBA, he still comes out as the freakiest athlete. Imagine if he comes out on this day with today technology and knowledge
There has never been another player that really compares with Wilt!
That's impressive about the fouls. Didn't know that.
@@Bogie6588 Wilt might be the only person to have an (unofficial) Quadruple Double Double (20 in 4 categories).
Points and Rebounds are a given, Blocks and Assists would be the question.
Not likely, but POSSIBLE.
what you didnt mention in your comment is wilt had the most 50 point games as well, at 118, jordan has the second most, at 31 GAMES, which means wilt had more 60 point games than jordan, the person with the 2nd most 50 point games, had 50 point games, an incredible statistic
He was a Philly guy, and so am I ..When he died I went to his Philly memorial service and was disappointed how few showed up.
I can never get over the sense that Wilt almost always held back.
Indeed. Wilt never fouled out of a game. Ever.
His old teammates said he never want to be know as a bully. Also there were much strict offensive fauls,he couldn´t bully people in the post like Shaq.
This was widely known in the NBA at the time.
There were very few times WIlt would go all out (against Bill most of the time, perhaps against Nate, and DEFINITELY against Kareem in the 1972 NBA FInals esp. Game 6).
Phil Jackson made a comment that "the book on Wilt was to just get in his way", going back to when Phil played Center....
Thats because the NBA changed the rules so wilt wouldnt be able to single handedly destroy the sports by being too good. Everything the man touched turned into legends, unfathomable by modern standards. FFs he even holds the record for most made freethrows in a game lmao
The story is that Wilt was taught and trained to be a gentle giant from the time he was a young child. Due to his size and strength it was thought that if he weren't careful he could kill someone. Bill Russell said himself that the one of the main reasons the Celtics won as many championships as they did was because Wilt was so nice.
Legends like Wilt, Russell, West, Bird, Magic, Jordan, Duncan, LeBron, Kobe would've been all time greats, no matter what era they played in.
100 percent agree.

@@simonr7097 you make a good point but keep in mind wilt was extremely athletic infact I dare say with his quickness and his height and his length the 3 point shooters of today would have to try extra hard to get some distance between him and themselves because with a guy like wilt there's no screen you could hide behind and even if you tried the high pick and roll I don't think you're going to have too much of a chance, the dude not only had a reach but his speed was absolutely ungodly, imo in order to slow him down you're going to need at least three bodies on him I know this sounds so crazy but then again that is who wilt Chamberlain is a legend so big that it's literally crazy to even try to comprehend in today's standards of the NBA, but like you said we'll never know but I definitely think given the nature of Wilts game he would have adapted to the three-point line pretty easily I dare say in today's game he'd be a hybrid version of KD and Kareem unguardable and lethal from pretty much anywhere and his strength would be kind of deceiving because when you look at him he doesn't look like he has a lot of strength but the man had power I read somewhere he dislocated someone's shoulder just from blocking their shot this dude would have been a problem for anybody in the paint shaq included and no offense to Bron but he's not going anywhere in the paint dominating like he is today if it was Wilt playing because that will be an automatic switch, as who's going to guard wilt, who's going to pick up Wilt ,hell who's going to try to overpower wilt, because even if you have more core strength you're going to have try and shoot over him and even if you could the man could jump and catch your shot. Best rim protector, best on the boards, best in post up, most athletic big man ever, best passing big man ever. Many of his records are comically out of reach, and the only reason he didn't win more championships is because he was playing against a ridiculously STACKED Celtics dynasty. If he isn't the best ever, he is hands down, by miles the most underrated player ever.
Just remember he anchored a team that won 33 games in a row, The 71-72 Los Angeles Lakers, Wilt was a terror, you could not stop him and he could do it all. It's not even a conversation when you talk about the best NBA player of all time.
We have to give credit where credit is due. Wilt is, bar none, the best player in NBA history. His dominance and records are unparalleled to this day, and will most likely never be broken by a single player.
Man averaged fucking 50 points and 25 rebounds thats not even human he is a demigod it doesnt matter how many rings he got. 50 point games are so rare that there are only a few in an entire season. Many superstars’ career high was only around that number. He averaged 50 points plus 25 rebounds, nobody has had a 50/25 game in decades. When people criticized him for scoring too much, he led the nba in assists. He was unstoppable, definitely the greatest of all time

When I was a young whipper-snapper, my father had a basketball game on television. I remember that one of the teams was the Los Angeles Lakers. Wilt was as athletic as anyone to play the game, and easily strong enough to push Shaq around.
It's because he was so much better than everyone else that he made it all look easy and it made him remote. It was also his personality: he was very much his own man. He was the greatest player ever, but somehow he didn't quite belong--the game, the fans, the teams, the record books--none of them could really contain or encompass him. He was larger than life. Never be another life that.
I don't think there is any doubt (at least in my mind), Wilt was the greatest basketball player ever. I would argue that he might even be the greatest athlete ever.

@SMT Admin i agree which is why i never say there is one real true goat. Its impossible to measures guards and big men. Different roles and responsibilities.

@Nazim Idir the problem with that argument is that wilt and bill were 2 totally different types of players.
