Absolutely love your vids. Very informative, stops talking when there doesn't need to be talk, has separate vids for riggings. Phenomenal and much appreciated work
Bought your book before taking the kids out on the boat for some fluking last week, read it cover to cover and had our most productive trip using only bucktails and gulp or pork rind ever. Thanks for a great read!
Great video. Went fishing today at Sandy Hook NJ and the flukes belly was full of tiny shrimp. Thanks to you I bought the shrimp gulp alive and my wife caught a 8lb fluke ☺
Just letting you know I came from your ad and was so happy finally a good informative ad came on instead of the usual crap. Can't wait to start watching your vids!
Thanks John. Love your books and videos. You are far and away the best at teaching us how to go "catching". Fished north shore this weekend off beach. Lots of bolders. Mole type crabs were in full swing mating. When this is such a predominant bait what is good match.... also got some fluke but was chased off beach by thunder storms. Are there still bass in area. Think I was in similar locale as vid. .
Went bottom fishing to Ensenada Mexico last week. Big Reds and sculpins all day. They were feeding on baby lobsters. put some Gulp Shrimps on the Drop and was amazing how this product works.... more than 17 pieces per person average weight around 4 to 6 pounds each....
chandler - I would not use 30# for this setup. Very thin line is crucial to this type of fishing with light tackle and light payloads. 15# braid is very thin.
do you still make it down to Florida? ever fish Sebastian inlet? can be as good as you catch them up there... average size is smaller in general but lots of 5-7 pound fish in the winter months
i find with the sea robins the best way to handle then is to treat it like a large mouth bass grab it by the lip and there usually pretty easy to handle I always see people with rags there not that bad
+John Skinner Fishing i spent last summer fluke fishing at obi and i had a blast i used a 1oz white bucktail with a yellow swimming mullet and a teaser hook with another gulp and caught my first fluke actually 5 or 6 i got 4 keepers, do u personally recommend that place ik u dont fish from piers but just asking
Now that Gulp is getting so ridiculous expensive.I started buying and Chartreuse or White swim bait or grub type plastic bait and soak them in fish oil works great.I buy them at walmart in gel caps just poke a hole in them and squeeze about 6 in the bag.Let them sit for a week or so before using.Good luck
John, I enjoyed the video very much, but I am usually fishing in similar depths but the current seems to be a lot stronger than in the video and it seems like I have to constantly let line out to stay on the bottom, and I don't want to go too heavy on the bucktail, so is this normal? and what would you advise doing?
I'll go up to 2 ounces if the current is really moving. If it's a wind drift I'll use a drift control sock. The technique isn't the best in very heavy current.
I recommend to make a pause and slowly show the rig you are describing because a mere verbal instruction don't say much to beginers like me. Many anglers assume easy routine practices are also easy for many people. Otherwise I very much like your systematic way of teaching. Very interesting indeed.
Went fishing today, not so good for me, But these other guy caught 4 coho salmon and other had 1 or 2 .would love to try fishing in your part of the wood.
John Skinner Fishing I fish Jamaica bay area at NY bight and I noticed most of the keeper had either shrimp or crab in them. Well thanks so much. On my way to the tackle shop to buy those shrimp
I know they have plenty of spines and a bit of venom but I've handled them plenty by just squeezing behind their heads in front of the gill plates. I also noticed some flounder getting handled with the towel too. Enjoyed the video.
I Just dont understand how Gulp catches more fish, how does it attract fish is it the smell or what makes it so good? When i do switch to gulp witch gulp Swimming Mullet, Shrimp.etc

Thanks for sharing that experience!
John Skinner Fishing , early season, Nj, would you advise against using the glass minnow jig with a gulp shrimp on it?
Great video. Went fishing today at Sandy Hook NJ and the flukes belly was full of tiny shrimp. Thanks to you I bought the shrimp gulp alive and my wife caught a 8lb fluke ☺

Very informative, i like how you dont come off cocky, just good information and really sincere on teaching
Haha very efficient switch-a-roo system with your daughter, and very informative videos as always!
Nice video & flounder. Looks like daughter is having good time too.
Kudos for taking your lovely daughter fishing.
AWESOME!!! Now I have to go out and get some Gulp Shrimp for this weekend!
Thanks for posting!!

Gotta say john when the robins are big enough that tail meet is real good

Nice videos, John. Like stated before, those sea robins are delicious. Give them a try.

Thanks john. Should I respool my rod or just use a nice long leader?
Chandler Funk
respool if the rod isn't too heavy for it.
thanks for taking the time to explain your logic and tactics
The cosmic chicken color shrimp have been working well in nj too.
do you still make it down to Florida? ever fish Sebastian inlet? can be as good as you catch them up there... average size is smaller in general but lots of 5-7 pound fish in the winter months
In Sarasota Florida it is only 12in size limit
BEST FISHING EVER.
What type of bait casters do you use and do they hold up well for saltwater fishing? Also what lb test mono/braid do you use on your reels?
Great video
Oh new subscriber here that doesn’t adds ☺️
When fishing shinnecock, do you fish around the bridge in your yak?
i find with the sea robins the best way to handle then is to treat it like a large mouth bass grab it by the lip and there usually pretty easy to handle I always see people with rags there not that bad
Do you think the berkley mantis shrimp would work just as well?
man you can tell from that corner of his boat , he's flipped thousands of flatties in there .. lol ... awesome
+GATORBAIT FISHING I was thinking the same thing. LOL Best kind of fishing boat there is. Nothing fancy. Just a great fishing boat.
Very nice video, thanks. What is the weight you are using, please?
1 ounce
nice video donation button puts me on hold tried it 2 times
Is it ok to use 30 # test braid on the main line for this type of fishing? Thats what my rod has.
What type of bottom do you look for? Sand? Weeds?
are you looking for drop offs or flats?
Dropoffs, usually over sand.
That crazy! The size limit in Texas is 14.. You would catch your limit so quick. Where are you located? Great video!
+King Angler Long Island, New York
+John Skinner Fishing great video!

John Skinner Fishing Oh ok, I may try the drift sock.
what depth finder/ fishfinder are you using? mine just mesed up after 7 years and im interested in the gps marking

Hey john question. Do you travel for fishing, if so have you done fishing in chicago . Like lake michigan?
Never fished Lake Michigan
Went fishing today, not so good for me, But these other guy caught 4 coho salmon and other had 1 or 2 .would love to try fishing in your part of the wood.
At 6:02 the flounder gets off the hook than goes and bites it right back lol im definitely going to be using these
Enjoy watching your videos John! Will this Rig work in Florida?
nismonation Yes, especially casting.
that boat is so old and beat up. makes me wonders how many pounds of fish have hit the deck.
I went out fishing 2 days ago but I was only catching baby flukes. Am I doing anything wrong or do I just keep trying till I catch a big one?
Extremely informative video BTW
Do u use expensive tackle for fluke fishing? What's the price range ( as in rod and reel )
These are $30 rods. The reels are $100, but you could use much less expensive.
ever try Bacon ? heard that it works too.
Just subscribe, enjoy your videos very much. Why you daughter don't wear pfd?
she can probably swim, i dont wear em either, too darned uncomfortable
Not a big deep sea fisher man are sea robins pounds or are they just ful of sharp spines
They're sharp and spiny to grab.
Would you say shrimp works better then swimming mullet 4"?
In cases where the fish are scrounging shrimp and crabs from the bottom I think it works better.
John Skinner Fishing I fish Jamaica bay area at NY bight and I noticed most of the keeper had either shrimp or crab in them. Well thanks so much. On my way to the tackle shop to buy those shrimp
If you want fish tacos, sea robins are actually fairly good eating.
any reason for using the cloth to hold the sea robbin?
+matt bureaux nasty spines
+matt bureaux I agree. You shouldn't use a towel when handling fish.
catchandrelease.org/handling.shtml
+psu4life917 If you grab a searobin barehanded your next stop is likely to be the emergency room.
I know they have plenty of spines and a bit of venom but I've handled them plenty by just squeezing behind their heads in front of the gill plates. I also noticed some flounder getting handled with the towel too. Enjoyed the video.
Do you ever use shiners?
I used many baits for many years, but find I do better with the gulp. We carry only gulp on our jigging trips now.
I Just dont understand how Gulp catches more fish, how does it attract fish is it the smell or what makes it so good? When i do switch to gulp witch gulp Swimming Mullet, Shrimp.etc
CharlesDaPCGuy
If you get some 4-inch white swimming mullets you'll do well with this kind of fishing.
I Just bought them, do you fish in moriches ever? Btw thats where i usually fish.
CharlesDaPCGuy
?
How long was that fish
around 25''
What kind of boat do you have?
16-ft aluminum
#1 dad right there
Great video, but sea robin taste delicious.
love your vids. Life vest please!!!!
im glad im not the only one that gets outfished by his daughter
You in Texas
Long Island, NY
love your video but i am getting dizzy from u turning too much still love your video.
hook and number ??
3/0 Gamakatsu Baitholder
no more perfection loop? :-P
surgeon's loop on the bottom to attach the jig.
John Skinner Fishing yeah but some of your other videos uses the perfection loop, any reason to use one over the other?
rawr215
Not really. I guess I find it quicker and easier to tie.
tip dont just reel in the flounder get them in a net
nets sometime causes tail rot as it tears up their tails when they thrash around.
13:08 is what you came to see
When the girl can fish ooooooooooouuuu
낚시굿
