I dug plenty of holes by hand, spliced more cables than I expected, and spent more time in the hooks climbing, because "no bucket truck", than any other utility hands down. Thanks david. The only reason I ask is because I already have a student loan I'm paying for and dont want to add any unecessary debt to my family. Im single income here and socal and want to switch careers. From a conductor at Union pacific railroad to lineman at LADWP. Where do I start?
@@alexmendoza4448 see if they still have the Exempt Electrical Craft Helper available. I'm not in the loop. I have no experience trying to start with the City from scratch like Jeff Halstead. I think LA trade tech is what is free available through LA Unified school district. I'm not sure because I was already a Journeyman Lineman and simply answered an advertisement for help. Once you get that ticket in your pocket? They'll hire you immediately if not sooner and because it's civil service that will take about three months to do the background check like it did on me! Hahaha It's sad that the Civil Service process is so slow. I interviewed and they wanted me to report for duty right away. I already had a job, and wasn't interested in any lapse of Insurance coverage, so I waited for them to finish their paperwork, and it took them 3 months to finally hire me, from when that Department Supervisor said go!
@@LangoUsDavidLango I got my class A medical taken care of. Next in line is my Class A permit at the dmv then trucking school. I want to work for DWP, they are the best. Do you have any DWP contacts? I have more questions as to the exact route necessary to get hired nowadays.

But if I were you, I'd roll in to the training center at Truesdale off Glenoaks, and piggy back other cars passed the guard shack at 6:15 AM and hike straight to the pole yard and start admiring everything. You will be in trouble, but for all the right reasons. You will develop contacts of your own!
