- I found this piece of leather at a local store. I instantly wanted to create a cup with it! I recorded each step of the process with the exception of one extra coat of epoxy and the clear spray paint layers in between. If you are considering giving this a try, please go for it!! I sold this tumbler before I even had it listed anywhere.
Here's the link to the glitter I used: www.fransglitterandmore.com/p....
Here are the Amazon affiliate links for the epoxy I use: -Envirotex Epoxy: Gallon kit amzn.to/2MpmoBS, 32 ounce kit amzn.to/2Qdoaay, 16 ounce kit amzn.to/399KJWg - Навчання та стиль
What wa wonderful find that leather was! And, you used it to create a gorgeous cup. I love what you did!! ❤️❤️❤️
So beautiful. I love your videos. You teach me so much and do such a wonderful job at everything you make. Thank you so much.
After watching this vid I went and did two leather cups for my wife. Haven't finished them yet just waiting for the glitter to dry completely before I resin them. May I make suggestion? Instead of using Mod Podge to glue the leather on I found it easier to use 3M Super 77 Multipurpose adhesive. You spray the leather backing 2 coats and the the cup 2 coats waiting 5 minutes in between each coat. After your 2 coats on boath you wait about 10 minutes for cure time on the glue and then you stick them both together. Was a whole lot better than the Mod Podge in my opinion. Great cup you did here by the way. Thank you!
That’s great! I have two more pieces to do this again and will give that a try! I’m glad I went back for a few more because they were almost all gone!
Love it! Turned out really nice.
Love how you done this mug. I love leather too. Beautiful job!
Thank you! I loved it so much that I bought 2 more pieces of this leather last weekend!
Beautiful, did a great job
Beautiful love that it has the word faith on t!
GORGEOUS! Thank you for including ALL the steps and making things clear for this new tumbling girl!
You’re more than welcome!
Let me know if you have any questions! I’m not advanced or an expert in any stretch of the word, but I read a lot and make plenty of mistakes! 🥰
@@ThePurpleStitch I appreciate that you are willing to share your mistakes to help us know how to fix them. Thank you for sharing your talent and time.
Beautiful!! Thank you!!! 💕
🥰 thank you & you’re welcome!
I love it!
I was looking for a vinyl piece that looked like a piece of leather like this and accidentally got real leather lol. I googled can I put real leather on epoxy tumbler and yours came up! I’m going to give it a try! Yours looks really cute
Beautiful!
🥰thank you!!
I'm a leather crafter and I have been wanting to do a leather cup that I have hand tooled . You have given me the courage to do one now. You might find it easier to sand down the edge of the leather instead of trying to cut such small sections off.
Thank you for that tip!! I have another beautiful piece to use!!
Who knew this could be done with leather? Beautiful!!
🥰 thank you!
To seal leather use saddlelak which is basically lacour finish but flexible. It at Tandy.
Thanks for that info!! I’ll look for that before my next one of these tumblers!
Wow that’s it wow👍🏼👍🏼
Nice project.
I brought a piece of leather and I made this tumbler, it turned out just as beautiful as yours. :)
Beautiful
Thank you!
Wow! The leather cup looks amazing....thanks for a super tutorial and a great job all round. 😻
Thanks Vick! 🥰
Awesome tumbler, u gave me the confidence to try.. where did you get your glitter catcher tray?
You Really inspire me. I can't wait to get started and try to make some tumblers. I still have so much to get. I have lung and brain cancer so every penny seems to go toward my treatments and medical expenses. I do have a cup turner that my husband made me but I need supplies. Hopefully I will be able to get some soon. What epoxy do you use?
Aww, you know how to make a gal feel good! 🥰
I use Envirotex lite from Michaels. I NEVER buy without a 50% or 60% coupon!
And I hope you recover/beat your cancer!! I understand how consuming that can be!
I thought your multi-Turner was a kitty friend trying to make a cameo.
😆 I could see that! Just chickens, ducks, a mini schnauzer, and soon a bearded dragon here!
I Hope you were able to camouflage the spot where the tape pulled your color off😭 I would think you can stain it using wood stain, or soaking tobacco leaves in warm water and applying that to the leather. Btw, That Leather is STUNNING!! And Thank You for sharing this video. I’m going to be looking in Every thrift store I see now for leather purses, back packs, leather everything!! Lol. Love this 😍
I am just getting into tumbler making and I had actually wondered if you could do it with cowhide/leather then I found your videos! Is there a reason you only let the epoxy sit for 2 hours before you put another coat of epoxy? What kind of clear coat spray paint do you use? LOVE the cup!
I just need one layer to cure enough before adding the next but doesn’t have to fully cure. When I do it that way, I often have a shop light on it to speed up that process. I can’t wait to do another one, I have two more pieces like this waiting to be used!!
I usually lean towards Rustoleum 2x but will also use Krylon.
Love! I’m working with leather now - any tips for a peekaboo design? I’m having problem with the whole and getting the epoxy to level out in the areas that don’t have leather. Do you think I should have put something in the holes? Any advice would be super helpful!
sarah felton I have another video that I did a hide and had to build up the ledge it caused. It was tricky because I didn’t tape off like I should have. I could’ve done a much better transition. I’d say to take the time to build up the thickness.
@@ThePurpleStitch thank you! my next trick i think is to get a blank piece of something like foam to help the build or somehow thin out the leather. we'll see!
Your just awesome lol I’m planning on trying a skinny water bottle ...any suggestions on keeping it stable and loading it on the turning bar ?
As snug of a fit at the opening, then plenty of tape at the threads to secure it to the arm. I’ve done a water bottle with a small opening for my sis. I wrapped electrical tape around the pvc to make the diameter a tight fit to the opening, then secured it with tape as well. It’s a little trickier for sure!
Thank you 😊
Beautiful!
Do you have a website or shop for your tumblers? Do you take orders?
Thank you!
I have my Facebook page but I’ve closed my Etsy shop for the moment. It is Facebook.com/thepurplestitch. 🥰
Beautiful cup! What is this font I keep seeing?
Thank you!!
For this cup I just google searched "faith as a cross" and found the one I liked the best and adjusted the length/height to what I needed.
The stand you're using looks like it's homemade. If so do you have measurements for it? If not, where did you get it? I would love to have one. It's so hard to get vinyl on straight with it rolling all around. Lol
I honestly just saw a picture on Pinterest and winged it. 😂 I've seen some folks roll a towel and use rubber bands to hold it.
Smooth up the cut edges on your leather by using tokonole or some similar gum substance.
Thanks. Beautiful.. I thought about jeans material
Ooooh! There’s an idea!!! 😍 That might be something to attempt soon!! Thanks for the idea and the compliment!
I wonder if painters tape would work? The method was great, other than the mar on the leather
I’ll find out soonish. I have another piece to make another.
How would I use Faux leather from 651 vinyl to put on a tumbler
I’m not familiar with that, but if it has an adhesive backing you would apply like a full wrap. If not, I’d assume you’d apply like this cup. 😬 Not 100% sure. 😁
The Purple Stitch it’s faux leather like Cricut faux leather
🤔 Then I’m assuming the same. Mod podge application and then seal it really good before epoxy.
The Purple Stitch Thank You
Can I do your with faux leather?
Yep! Just seal it the same.
Which epoxy do you use?
I use Envirotex lite 🙂
What weight of leather did you use?
Oh man, I’m most sure. It didn’t say on the bin. I don’t really do much leather (none but this really!) so I’m not familiar with it. I’d say it’s about a millimeter thick. Not stiff.
@@ThePurpleStitch Thank you!
Beautiful
