You put paint marks on for alignment but, there is a "C" shaped cut out on the trailing arm and a corresponding "C" shaped bulge just inside the outer edge of the bush. You simply align them. That is the proper way to do it. As the bush you were changing was broken, the flat metal you used for your marks may not have still been in the correct place. Also, the bush you are changing may have been changed already. If it was not fitted properly you would be making the same error that leads to premature failure. Good video apart from that.
this was hands down the best vid out there on this. I learned enough to do it with confidence that's all you can ask for on these instructional videos.
Did both sides with my brother using floor jacks in 3 hours lately. He ended up taking the trailing arms off, was a big annoying but you work with the tools you have. Found it way easier than going under the car
There's a mark on new bushes you line up to a little semi circle on the trailing arm . Little point marking the old bushes than could have possible moved in worst condition case
Great video, just done this job on the floor - not nice, do you know the torque specs for the two bolts in the bushing and the bottom shock bolt, thanks
Thank Leon for the video. Was helpful. Tomorrow i will gone to garage to replace the dame bushes for the Galaxy. Ask me to pay £200 pounds each total £400 pounds. I thing is rep off . Very expensive for the job like that. What you thing? The car is reg 2012. Thank you
Brilliant video, Need to get my Bushes replaced in 3months time. Fords Garage I normally take my car to wants to charge £250 and said they’ll need over a day to do the job. Hmmmm.... think someone’s pulling the wool over my eyes... tut tut 😠
Once you’re bought the tool and bushes you’ll be in for about £200 anyways so you’re really only paying an extra £50 for fitting and you won’t need to get your hands dirty. I wouldn’t bother doing this myself unless I can find or borrow the tool for very cheap.
Damn that pry bay urt when it it me on the ead. I enjoy these wrenching videos, you never know what tips you can pickup even when I'll never work on one of these. That Seely tool is great it would be a royal PITA without it. Interesting how it was designed to go in cockeyed. Leon can you add a link for that light, it looks interesting.
Eric Corse hi mate yes I totally agree I learn a lot of tips from watching other people also learnt it's from the comments you're always learning in this job which light are you talking about as I use the couple in the video
You have an indicator mark on bush and arm, the way you do with marking the position of old bush is incorrect because old one always going to be in the wrong position. Nice tool.
Hey mate - Great vid. You said you’ve done this job before without that tool. I can’t afford the tool and am only ever going to have to do the job once. How did you do it before? Cheers
Hi mate it was very awkward I had to use big threaded bars with old bearings put them together hammers all the usual stuff it was not easy and I wouldn't really advise you doing it you can do more damage doing it this way the proper tool is the key I realise if you can't afford it that's a problem but also spending the money on buying the parts and damaging them or so will cost you money in the long run
Also if they're not putting 100% correct your never get the tracking right damage tyres and in the long run end up costing you more money than may be getting someone to fit them for you
Thanks bud . I’ll see what i can do. Looks like this might be a job to take to the mechanic, it’ll cost less for the bushes and for him to do the work than just buying the tool . Cheers 🍻
I wander, of we can't hammer it in place with the pneumatic hammer with a hammer bit on it. Instead of using the expensive and non economic special tool...
Its something I dread all the time, Ive heated the metal up a tad and used ZX1 to lube it all up. The tool is £135 its just a shame I have only used it once. (technically twice).
Unfortunate this is one of the big problems of being a mechanic the tools you need to do the job properly or easier are very expensive and you don't necessarily get to use them all the time but it's a Catch 22 do you spend longer and possible damage in part or do you buy the tool
@@bodgitandleggitgarage the upside is as a mechanic you will use the tool more often than the enthusiast. Because not every one of them has that little Mark and the way I show it in the video you don't need the mark so the way I sharing a video it doesn't matter that's why I showed it that way

Well explained video, love all the hints and tips when changing the bushes‼️
Very little rust underneath! I'm impressed.

Another great video Leon. Top work with the lighting. The picture quality was superb!

Nice explanation and video. I've got that tool. Another pair of hands made it much easier. It's a bit fiddly. 🤚🤚

€300 for that tool I bet you managed without it before but it makes your life easy great video
Brendo yes I have managed without it but the job is taking 4 times longer so you do the math
Just done one of these without the specialist tool! Nightmare! Have to confess to giving that top bolt a wee tap with a hammer to help it on its way!
Hi, great vid, subscribed. just a quick one, can these bushes be done on a mk2 focus without removing the trailing arm, using the special tool?
Good video bud, cohosh you explain about the rats on the tool for me as you didn't mention them 😆
Have you got a video for the front arb bushes? Is it a subframe off job?
Super helpful video! Thanks a lot!
perfect timing leon, doing this on wednesday. thanks bonnie lad
ewb69 it's not perfect timing I knew you was doing it on Wednesday🤣🤣🤣🤣
Can I borrow the tool? Too expensive just for one time use at the shop, I don't normally do this kind of jobs.
How do u adjust the tool it so you don’t push them to far in a bought the tool you have in video but the don’t move
It really is as simple as that!
Thomas EXOVCDS sorted!!!
Leon just makes it look simple 😂 there should be a shirt that says "It really is as simple as that" 😂👍

Also can I ask do you think the mk4 Mondeo is a reliable car? (petrol not diesel) thanks
Brendan Brady fan hi mate it all depends on what type of driving you are doing to which one you need just stay away from the 1.8 diesel
bodgit and leggit garage is that a pug engine? Been looking at the s-max but the 2.0 diesel pug engine gets better reviews reliability wise.
Good job acquaintance!😁

I look forward to doing this on the floor without the special tool one day 🤣 awesome work mate

The point of not taking the arm off and using that tool is so u don't have to do tracking!!! (assumes u use genuine ford part)
Great vids very informative keep up the good work 😀😀
paul brooks thanks mate
bodgit and leggit garage I've done many of them trailing arm bushes on the Mondeo know that tool saves you a lot of time mate
What make air hammer did you use? Looks decent
hi mate it is a laser tool one
bodgit and leggit garage thanks for that looks like a decent one might have to get one
obi wan it is a decent one one of the most powerfulest ones you can get
had somebody ask me to do a pair of these recently...i sent him elsewhere. not having a ramp and no press to seat the bush this job would be a pain.
shauns auto repairs but now you know what tool you need so next time you build to do it easy
I’m doing an exhaust on my mk4 this week, wish me luck. Great job as always Leon.
Krzysztof Kacprzak there is a video coming out shortly I'll be doing a full exhaust system on a Mk 3 Mondeo going to be very similar to yours
Krzysztof Kacprzak also good luck mate have fun
When working on cars what colour loctite is best to use as you can buy Red, Blue, Green and Purple.
Hard Worker it's like everything depends on what you are doing 99% of the times I use blue I have sometimes use red but that's it on cars

Why take the upper control arm bolt out... Just remove the lower one u can get out easily, and loosen the top only to swing it out the way
The bush has a locator mark on them
Hi mate not on all of them only some of them that's why it's always best to market just in case

400 £ for fitting it's a good price? I think are a loot of money...
Just scrap the car, it’s probably worth less than the price of the job!!
