It really is in pretty decent shape for it's age. It could definitely be restored fairly easily. Nice looking car.

You could use a rubber glove or anything you wished , and a centimeter at best is what you would succeed in getting it down in a locked car.Your window would hit a lock activated block just beyond a centimeter. It didn't have a window crank , but they did not forget the thieves when they designed this car. The ease with which the (seemingly weightless) windows went up (and stayed up) and came down when brought down was amazing .The fact that no modern car has anything similar makes one wonder if it is really always the best technology that survives time.!

Strange , never seen that on a modern car , only on the Citroen 2cv you open half the window by pushing it up and click it on the outside of the door..

This, of course, was made by Vauxhall of Luton, England - not the US. They were superb cars. Much later Vauxhalls - 1957-1961 - had some serious rust problems, but these ones did not; they were very solid.

I owned a '57 Velox around 1968/69 it was already rusted out to the point where one of the rear leaf spring shackles ripped out of the box section chassis when I hit something in the road! Cool looking car though!

@RamblinAround I hope to see this car again in better shape and , if possible , to have a look under the hood .

From a distance it is easy to see the early 50's Chevrolet influence. Up close the details are different.

Vauxhall is and was part of GM so that can be the reason they mixed details..

@marconiphone Yes indeed it was the steel that caused the problem and it did affect Ford, Hillman, Singer and to some extent most of the UK manufacturers between 1956 to 58. In proportion to other years, there are far fewer survivors from those years than before or after. Add in the fairly primitive attempts at rust prevention and there was little hope of good build quality. I clearly remember 1955/56 Vauxhalls already in poor condition and scrapped by 1960/61. I spent many times there!

It is of course a 1955 model year Vauxhall Velox made in Luton UK (not USA). From the pictures it has survived well considering that the '55/56 cars were made from very poor quality steel imported from Eastern Europe as directed by the UK Government. The 1951/3 and 1957 cars were much better. Look underneath though...you would get a nasty surprise unless the engine had leaked oil and saved the floor pans and rails. Now rare and a good car. We had a '53 between 1963/9. Sold "as new" for £35 !!!

Rust was a serious problem with these models. I have seen some of them literally rust away before your eyes.
